There's some serious talent at light heavy, and it's all bigger and heavier than Ward...Kovalev, Stevenson...even father time, Bernard Hopkins. All would be interesting fights and could test Ward. I'd LOVE to see him fight them. Not sure how realistic that is - Ward isn't with Al Haymon, is he? No way Stevenson fights him then. I see Andre beating Stevenson and Hopkins, should he get them in the ring. Kovalev? I dunno. Guy can HIT!

Do any of you guys, especially those of you who are from the U.K., have any thoughts on the Tyson Fury/Dereck Chisora fight? The odds seem to be pretty close (about -200 for Fury), which doesn't make much sense to me since Fury already decisively beat Chisora once, Fury is undefeated, has an eight or nine-inch height advantage, and is easily considered one of the top heavyweights.

I'll be shocked if Golovkin doesn't win by knockout, but I don't really have a feeling as to what part of the fight it will happen in. The way to make money on that fight is to bet that the fight won't go 8 1/2 rounds or whatever number of rounds they set the odds. I'm sure it won't go 12 rounds, but not sure that it won't go 10 rounds. A 10th, 11th, or 12th round stoppage is possible, but not likely. Golovkin has only been past the 8th round once.

Here's the story on the Golovkin odds. The over/under round odds are set at 11 1/2 rounds, which I love. I see Geale hanging around for a while, but I will be completely shocked if it goes the distance. The best odds I have found on the under round odds are -280 at the Riviera. The worst on the under round odds is the Wynn at -320. No MGM Grand properties are setting over/under round odds, because the fight is not in Nevada. Pretty much every other non-MGM sportsbook has the odds at -300 on the under rounds. As far as a straight bet, the odds I have seen range from -1100 to -1450 for Golovkin. Hopefully, I can make some serious money on the under rounds tomorrow, but stranger things have happened.

Chisora has pulled out, ostensibly from a broken hand...but it could be Frank Warren (promoter) pulling him out due to less than remarkable ticket sales. It wouldn't be the first time in boxing. I think Fury would have won a points victory.

Fury is fighting Chisora sparring partner...

Edit - Fury has pulled out now too, due to a family illness!

Anyone catch the fight last night? No one will want to fight GGG after this. He is a monster. He doesn't look like a monster, but he is a flippin' monster.

It was crazy. Geale hits him solid and GGG in that chaos comes back with a vicious right and ends it. My trainer was explaining to me some guys can take a punch and some can't. Apparently, GGG can. He is just a killer. Then he calls out cotto.

RE: Official Boxing Thread for Videos, History, Interviews, Analysis, etc.
Froch v GGG would be a great fight, assuming GGG's power is somewhat diminished by moving up. If GGG can carry his power up to 168 then only Ward can beat him...albeit boringly.

Ward's a great technical boxer, but his style isn't pleasing on the eye at all. Plus, he could only dream of selling 70,000+ tickets, as Froch v Groves did. British boxing is in a really healthy place in my opinion, the right fights actually get made. Froch v Degale, if it gets made is another good example of that. Degale is all wrong for Froch, but I think Froch is too proud to vacate - as it's something he has dissed Calzaghe for, for ages. I'd still pick Froch though, I'm a big fan in spite of his technique which leaves much to be desired.

I worry for American boxing. It's a bad thing if American boxing continues declining, as whilst it's an English sport originally, America is where it's at. Every fighter wants their name in lights in Vegas. Deontay Wilder is interesting, but I think he could be very close to being exposed badly.

Another opinion of mine, Tyson Fury is a hell of a lot better than a lot of the public give him credit for. He's seen as a bit of a joke, but he actually isn't. Even Emmanuel Steward said so. Right now though, nobody is beating Wladimir Klitschko.

Sorry, went off on a bit of a tangent there!

That was the easiest money I ever made. Geale's footwork was pretty good, he was being pretty elusive, and he was throwing a lot of punches, although they didn't really seem to phase Golovkin. Golovkin's power was just way too much for him. Unless they put Golovkin in with Andre Ward, I really doubt I'll be able to make good money on any Golovkin fights, because in the future, the odds should be horrible. I was only in Las Vegas for a short time and I'm leaving here with a Sinaloa flag, a bruised pubic bone, and a lot of cash that Golovkin made for me.

Thanks mate. I used to do prediction videos and the like, but I got sick of dealing with trolls and keyboard warriors, so I stopped doing it. There's some great UK-based boxing channels that I watch, and who supported me. The main one being:

https://www.youtube.com/user/wingyboxingnews

He's a top bloke, and I've had really good conversations with him on twitter and email. He had another channel, but stopped it and opened a new one. I see that happening with a lot of Youtube people, copywrite or something else forces them to move home so to speak.

Another who I really enjoy watching (he's even done some vids on feminism and other cultural topics) is:

https://www.youtube.com/user/HatmanStrikesBack/featured

Dude is a knowledgeable man, highly recommended. I read Boxing Monthly and Boxing News (one of the oldest magazines going) as much as possible, either via print or online when I'm not in England. I just fucking love the sport to be honest.

LOL. How did you bruise your pubic bone? Did you slip in the shower or something??

Just kidding.

Yeah I'm not sure you'll be able to make any dough off GGG but he sure will be fun to watch. I was there last night. Crowd was much more tame than a typical MSG crowd - neither he nor Geale brought a huge rowdy fan base, like Cotto or Canelo do. But watching him fight was magic - the precision of his footwork, no wasted movements. It was amazing.

Merenguero, may I ask what bet you made? I imagine the odds were heavily weighted against GGG, right?

I bet that the fight wouldn't go 11 1/2 rounds. I had to bet at multiple sportsbooks due to the amount I was betting. The odds at those sportsbooks ranged from -280 to -300.

GGG wants Cotto's belts, he'd destroy Cotto as Miguel stepped up to take the belts off an ageing Martinez. No one wants to fight GGG, maybe Lara might as he's got balls of steel but even he'd have no chance. Canelo vs Cotto next I reckon purely for the dollars.

Merenguero, you make a lot of great additions to this thread.

I haven't done much betting myself, could we possibly get a data sheet from you on betting on boxing (or other sports too)?

Oh, CLEARLY Cotto will fight Canelo - it will be a zillion dollars and it's not the most risky fight he could take. Cotto has a built-in fan base, Canelo has a built-in fan base...they could sell out a 20,000 seat arena in either NY, Las Vegas, or somewhere else...San Antonio? Dallas? Heck, they could have it at Yankee Stadium and sell 50,000 tickets! And the PPV will be OUTRAGEOUS! All this for a fight that is way less risky than GGG.

Now, AFTER that, is interesting. I could see both Canelo and Cotto having enough guts, if they won, to take on GGG. Cotto has little to lose at this point in his career - it would be a $10M payday. Canelo is a little less certain. On the one hand, he is gutsy. On the other hand, if he loses his second big fight (after Mayweather), he starts to become Oscar Delahoya - fan favorite but lost nearly every big fight he was ever in. Still I think at this age he's game enough to do it.

Who else? Lara might. Quillin won't. Floyd wouldn't be seen in the same zip code as Golovkin!

Chavez Jr. is an interesting fight. I don't think he can beat GGG. But he can take a punch and it might be interesting to see how long he can stick around. And he is MUCH bigger than GGG - they'd have to fight at 168. He could possibly leave GGG a little worse for wear, in much the same way he did Sergio Martinez. That big body bearing down on you, leaning on you all night, wears your body out.

Andre Ward? He's been too inactive - I think GGG would edge him.

Heck, I think GGG could take Adonis Stevenson! You almost need to go to Sergei Kovalev to find a guy who could beat GGG. It's really amazing.

While I like Golovkin's power, and he looks to have solid fundamentals, I need to see him against some top tier opposition before I really get on board. HBO need a new star now that Pacquiao is on his way out, so I'm not surprised he's being touted as unbeatable etc., it just seems a bit premature to me.

A lot of big punchers have looked amazing coming up, but once they faced real top tier opposition, they got exposed (Trinidad, Pavlik, Donaire, etc.). I'm not saying that Golovkin will be the same story, as he looks to have good solid skills, just that it's a bit early to heap so much praise on him when he hasn't faced any real danger yet. If the Ward fight could be made somehow, then I wouldn't fancy betting against Ward, even though he's been so inactive lately.

This is somewhat true but this guy has a 90% knockout rate, thats fucking crazy for anyone. He's never been knocked down in his career, you're talking close to 400 fights. The guy only lost 5 fights (out of 350) as an amateur and with how the scoring systems work there, you've got to have some technical skills to get by. He could fight Sturm in Germany but Sturm is a faggot lets face it

My understanding is that Golovkin will be fighting one more time on regular HBO, then will move to pay per view against elite opponents such as Ward, Cotto, or Alvarez. Sam Soliman is a possibility for his next fight, which is good because Soliman holds the IBF title. If that fight happens, I see it going the same way as the Geale fight. Take the under round odds, regardless if they are 6 1/2, 8 1/2, or 11 1/2 rounds. You will make money.

Daniel Geale was no monkey...beat Anthony Mundine, beat Felix Sturm in Germany, fought Darren Parker to a split decision.

The other factor in his favor, besides his power, is his fundamentals. He doesn't get hit that much. The five fighters with the lowest % opponents punches landed are Floyd, Rigondeaux, Lara, someone else I can't remember...and Golovkin :/ I mean, NONE of those other guys are monster punchers; they are slick boxers. And Golovkin is making guys miss nearly as frequently...while cracking skulls. I believe he is the real deal. When Andre Ward and Canelo and Cotto are lying on the ground, we'll know I was right.
