It would seem like a mistake to try to match his brute strength in a straight up fight(unless you were someone with just as impressive fighting skills like Khal Drogo, Ser Arthur Dayne, John Snow, Big Brienne, Oberyn Martell, The Hound, a 2 handed Jaime), if you are say, Jaqen or Arya, they should try to lure the mountain into a trap pit and dump acid on him, or burn him with some sort of fire attack like wild fire from a distance. That is Arya's best bet I would think. If she truly is some sort of master assassin now, she should have access to poisons, fire attacks and whatnot.

Grrrlll Powah. The Mountain will be killed by a woman in Season 7, guaranteed. Or women, and I have a bad feeling that it will be the sand snakes who end him in direct combat.

My money would either be on the hound, or Arya. The mountain is on Arya's List.

I half expect to get some sort of Cleganebowl, have the mountain kill the hound.
Fortis 路 2016-07-06 03:23:00 路 #1628
Nah, they have to give the hound his redemption arc. He will slay his brother as a champion of the faith.
Herr Lucifer 路 2016-07-06 07:42:00 路 #1629
I can totally see that happening. The theme of revenge for their aunt, and then their father, is what drives the sand snakes story line and character arch. They might definitely get their wish. The Mountain is a rapist after all, He raped and killed their Aunt, also murdering their nieces and nephews. In a girl power universe, a rapist has to be taken down by a woman. A man(Oberyn) came to seek justice and he failed, now it is left to a woman(the sand snakes,) to successfully complete a Task(killing the Mountain, and/or punishing House Lannister) that a man couldn't accomplish. Yeah Grrrlll Powwaaahhh!!!

Fucking stupid, but i can see that happening.

God damn, you guys just planted a seed in my head so horrible that I'm almost apprehensive about watching the next season altogether. It never occurred to me that unGregor would go down like that. Of course, that's definitely fucking happening. Sandor would be the clear, non PC choice to help guide his arc of borderline heroism. I can even tolerate Arya doing something, though she doesn't have direct ties to the Mountain. She was trained by the "greatest" assassins in world and it's ignorant not to acknowledge the efficacy of honeypots in assassinations. But no, I foresee a mano y mano showdown between the Mountain and the sand snakes that will predictably end with a grrl victory, and like others have said, that cunt Ellaria standing over him a la Oberyn without the head crushing (bc only men are allowed gruesome deaths) saying something cheesily cuntish or stealing another great line from Book Doran.

Time for more crackpot theories. We still have like 9 more months until another GOT episode.

Here is what I think could happen.

It's unclear how long it will take Dany's army to get to Westeros, I think they will not show up on episode one of season 7. Right now we are assuming that Cercei will be killed in some sort of invasion by Dany. That may not happen, here is why: half of the plot is up north: Bran is returning, and probably bringing an army of ice zombies because of the mark on his arm bringing down the wall

There is one thing I have learned about Game of Thrones, when someone's army looks all powerful and can't possibly lose(like Stannis vs Ramsey, or Stannis attacking King's Landing, Stannis is the greatest commander of war in the world with the biggest army etc). Dany has a big army and 3 dragons. Bran could warg one of them and take out half the army then when it gets injured and starts dying, he could warg into one of the other 2.

In a pitched battle, someone with superior armor like Meryn Trant can easily kill a much more skilled swordsman like Syrio Forel. The Westeros armies are all trained to fight in full armor. The Dothraki hordes, while they have horses and incredible numbers, might not do so well against a much smaller army that is better trained and better armed.

Team Dany could end up fighting Team John and losing and Bran takes one of her dragons(whichever survives) and uses it to kill the white walkers. GRRM said we would get a bittersweet ending, and that could be it.

I always thought we would get the fight with the night's king last at the very end, and that the political battles with Cercei, Dany and Jon Snow would happen beforehand. But it might not even turn out that way at all. Maybe somehow John will end up working with the Nights King or killing the Night's king at the start of season 7, either he gets killed with the Valyrian steel sword, or maybe they somehow agree to team up to fight the dragons.

Either Qyburn or Jaime or Arya could kill Cercei at any point.

To sum up, Dany isn't in that great of a position: her dragons can be warged and used against her. Arya could work as some sort of faceless man assassin to work against her. The westeros armies are likely much better armed and trained than her army and she likely could lose in a straight up fight against Jon and the great houses that are left, especially since Jon has a green seer(Bran) for a brother, and a faceless man(Arya) for a sister and they are all coming home and teaming up. The unstoppable force that Dany has assembled will be toppled because right now it seems like there is no way that army can be stopped.

In the books it will likely be shown that Littlefinger(the Vale and perhaps the north) and Varys(young Griff and the gold cloaks and I guess Dany) are pulling all of the strings, and pushing the pieces, and their forces clash in the very end. I'm probably wrong about 75% of this, but we'll see in 9 months.

It's established now (sort of) that Jon has targaryean blood.

What if..Jon can control dragons and is immune to dragonfire ?

What if he finds this out after or during a battle where he kills Dany.

This could be the bittersweet part in all of this.

Jon could very well be the last man standing in Westeros. He's no longer Nightswatch. He has the right pedigree.

The Sansa/littlefinger sideplot is actually kind of interesting. Littlefinger has used her as a puppet the whole way to gain immense power and leverage. If they do the grrrl power thing sansa will turn the tables on him at some point. What if she doesn't though and uses Sansa against Jon stark?

Tyrion and Varys are pretty much backup dancers at this point which is unfortunate.

There should be a betting pool to see if GRRM can finish his epic before he dies of a heart attack. Odds don't look good for him to be quite honest.

He's as old as Stephen King. Even after getting hit with a van Stephen King looks way better than GRRM.

Dude will probably die before finishing the series at this point. The show has long passed the books anyways.

I am curious if we will ever find out the high sparrow's master plan or Margery's master plan in the books, because they both had to have had some sort of plan.

Speaking for myself, the death of TV Dany would be far from bittersweet. It'd damn near be shock of elation.

Yeah that would be pure sweet 'n' hot to me, not bittersweet at all. Fuck that fat dragonslut.

Given the direction everything is taking (and Dany's vision), I just don't see Dany losing. I say Jon stays out of the situation and focuses on the North and WWs, Dany takes King's Landing, Yara is made queen of the Iron Islands and Dorne remains free but ruled by the Sand Chicks - end of season 7. Season 8 will see Dany and Jon team up against the WW army and defeat them but the dragons and Jon will die. The series ends with Dany returning to King's Landing to rebuild as winter recedes with the death of the WWs.

Daario, Jorah, the former slave cities, Braavos and anything east of the narrow sea are only casually mentioned if at all. Vary's, Petyr's, WW's, R'hllor's, Children of the Forest's, Bran's (Three Eyed Raven) grand plans will be abandoned and the rest of the world will be forgotten.

Captain, that is getting closer to some of the theories I am reading, but people seem to think that Dany will die in some sort of sacrifice to kill the others, Jon will be offered the throne but refuse it to go back north. King's landing will make something similar to the House of Lords in England.

That's one theory anyways. Dany is being portrayed as essentially invincible so she absolutely cannot win by GoT logic. Of course I thought there was no way Tommen and Shireen would be dead at this point because they are innocent, weak and frail. So much for that logic, but sweetrobin is still going strong.
Herr Lucifer 路 2016-07-10 09:22:00 路 #1640
Cersei wont die until she sees Tyrion face to face again, by the side of a conquering Daenerys. Until they serve that comeuppance pie for Cersei to eat, they wont let Cersei die. I have a feeling that the judgement Tyrion will dish out will be a trial by combat for Cersei, in the same arena where Tyrion was previously tried in,... and Cersei's champion will lose....
TooFineAPoint 路 2016-07-10 12:28:00 路 #1641
The worst possible ending would be most of the annoying chick characters contributing to the defeat of the White Walkers but "democracy" being enacted in King's Landing.
eradicator 路 2016-07-10 14:50:00 路 #1642
I rewatched the last few episodes. GRRM has gone on record as saying one army's villain is another's hero. Perhaps the white walkers aren't really the show's evil bogeyman and perhaps Samwell figures out a way to communicate with them. Craster was able to keep a pease with the white walkers by offering them male children. Maybe Sam saves everyone by finding a way to communicate with them after the war in the north grinds to a stalemate.

Originally I thought Sam was just going to try to find a way to make more dragonglass weapons or maybe wildfire, but I think somehow he is the one that will save everyone because GRRM is most like that character(Sam) in his own life. Sam is about to meet the archmaester Marwyn, who trained Oberyn Martell, Miri Mhazz Durr(who's magic helped hatch Dany's dragons) and Qyburn. Marwyn likely already knows something about the Others or can at least point Sam in the right direction if not give him the answer outright to solving the white walker problem.

Another possibility is that Cercei levels the city of King's Landing with wildfire when she realizes that she can't win and wants to deprive Dany of her victory. And Dany lands with all her ships and troops and dragons to find King's Landing in ruins, much like the Doom of Valyria. That would be bittersweet. This seems like it would be more likely to happen in the books because Cercei already played that card once and it would seem redundant to do it a second time on the show.
CRR 路 2016-07-10 20:50:00 路 #1643
Interesting theories.

I think it's possible that Season seven will have a plot line involving the history of the Night's King. We know he was created by the children of the forest, and that's it. Considering he's supposedly the main villain it would be very strange, particularly for a show that generally has such strong character development. Even the Mountain, who at first glance is a two dimensional villain, has a history and story arc.

So S7/E1 could go something like this:

In the north - Jon Snow plans for the assault of the white walkers.
Kings Landing - Cersei finds out about the impending attack, plans a defense.
At sea - Dany, Tyrion et al go over their attack plan.
Citadel - Sam meets the archmaester.

Then the end scene we see the night king after he is stabbed with dragon glass and starts turning into a white walker and begins gathering an army.

Anyway, I just don't see how they ignore a backstory on the Nights King, considering we've seen how he was created and how the show has been structured thus far.

Maybe Gendry emerges as a smart choice, after all other factions have fought a massive war of attrition?

Davos's word to vouch that he's Robert's son might be enough to declare him legitimate for the throne.

Most of the protagonists die violently (de rigueur for GoT) but at the end, Westeros gets a benevolent ruler.
Slim Shady 路 2016-07-11 11:04:00 路 #1645
The message of the story is that feudalism is bad, traditionalism is bad, and that patriarchy is bad.

With this in mind, it should not at all matter what the technicalities of succession are and who is the "rightful king" by blood.

This is one of the weaknesses of the show that it does not quite capture the message of the story and goes for sensationalism, which tells you something about the show's audience. Bitches love kings and patriarchy!

It is quite interesting that Dany makes that speech about "breaking the wheel" and learning how to rule, yet does absolutely no ruling in Mereen, and uses violence for her goals. Then she moves on to Westeros with nukes ready to make marriage alliances - which means keeping feudalism and monarchy alive! Here comes a foreigner from a slaving land, to a land with no slaves, who will try to "reform" the system there -but not actually changing anything - by using force. Sounds a lot like the real world.

Didn't they say Jon Snow is a Targayreon?
Slim Shady 路 2016-07-11 11:42:00 路 #1648
He has the blood. He is still a bastard unless some second marriage is revealed. Nobody, except Bran, know this secret yet anyways.

Even if he were legitimate, his succession would be messy at best. He certainly would not be getting declared King with such unanimous enthusiasm.
eradicator 路 2016-07-11 20:36:00 路 #1649
Wow, he is pretty negative, but I get what he is saying. I don't think Cercei is being ridiculous, she has always been pretty crazy. I think season 5 was worse, and at this point we are just sprinting towards the end of the show and trying to wrap things up, and things are happening that don't make much sense.

I actually liked the Bran storyline, the Cercei story, and Jaime's. Arya's becoming an Xman, Jon becoming King out of nowhere, and some of the rest of it, was just insane. Sam's father not hunting him down,

Also Slim, Howland Reed probably knows Jon Targarean's secret. It is a hell of a coincidence that his daughter is helping Bran.
Slim Shady 路 2016-07-11 20:50:00 路 #1650
Oh right, I forgot to mention HR. Obviously Bran will be telling people also, but still the point is that there will be conflict.

I also agree that season 5 was worse. I think Preston is forgetting about the Littlefinger plot of season 5.
