Yeah it's crazy how much a huge city like Bangkok can change so much in the space of a couple of years. I also went in 2014, 2015 and again in 2016 and the dating scene is almost unrecognisable to 2014. Hudsonhicks, it isn't you mate. I know for a fact that I'm better looking now than I was in 2014 (Grew some hair, worked on style) and although I do still do well with farang fan girls it's more difficult to penetrate that middle class society. Being a foreigner in Route 66 isn't a novelty anymore, unless you look like an actor, model etc, perfectly fit the "The Thai preferred look" of longer blonde hair, blue eyes, and dress well. Back in 2014 I was one of maybe 3 or 4 foreigners in the place on a couple of occasions and girls were pretty much fighting to get me to their table. Still, it's possible to have a lot of fun in Bangkok if you fit the criteria and are persistent. You may just have to work harder for it and not expect anything other than a hooker or a farang hunter from Khao San Road to fall in your lap.

Philippina girls in Manila/Cebu sick of fierce competion for a white guy have taken notice, and are preferring to headto BKK instead of Singapore and Hong Kong to date a level up. Its now the "place to go" to meet white guys in SE asia, which is obviously not very good news on our end. Thats right its better for SE Asian women then Hong Kong or Singapore now.How much can 2 years of a difference make ....

I decided after my last trip I won't be heading to BKK again for a long period of time, only for a conference or specific event. Its not just the fierce competiion, I just feel like Thai people are starting to really dislike farangs, the prices are soaring up, its just not worth it anymore when you can go somewhere else (if your goal is easy puss). Thailand is still a beautiful country to visit, and its still perhaps my #2 or #3 favorite country in the world for stuff besides women like the food and culture. I spent about 2 months there last year, it took me about a solid month to get some good momentum and a few girls on the rotation. In 2014 it would have taken me an hour. If you are going for less than 10 days, unless you have blondhair/blue eyes don't expect much other then a hooker or ugly chick on khao san.

PPS. Thai Friendly is still very solid for now. And overall getting laid in BKK is still easier then a lot of places, but by 2018 i think that will not be the case.

Getting laid in Bangkok will always be easy, but it will become harder for us as years pass by because we are aging too : )

Thinking of booking an apartment near Royal City Avenue for a couple of weeks.....How full is RCA mid-week generally? What are the busiest days other than Friday/Saturday? Is there a farang entrance fee every night of the week to Route 66 and ONYX?

Monday and Tuesday is most quite. Sunday Wednesday and Thursday is still good. Yup farang fee all week and now you only get 200 bath worth of tokens and 100 fee for 300 bath. Onyx is 500 bath but fuck that place. They hate foreigners in there not kidding even if you come with your Thai friends.

I still remember when Route had no cover for farang with a Thai DL. I won't go to ANY club in Thailand with a dual pricing policy and I know a lot of guys will say, it's only 300฿ or 500฿, but f...k man they are basically saying; we don't want you in our club and if you want to come, we'll tax you.

On this up and coming trip i'm going to endeavor to make it back to girls' rooms more often rather than bring them back to my hotel. I shall save my hotel for the real special ones.

2. The embarrassment i suffer walking past the reception desk when i bring back a different woman to my hotel room every day and sometimes twice a day is lessened off..

3. It makes me feel like Bear Grylls by going native and deep into the wilderness.. nothing like a dodgy looking condo block full of 3000baht fan rooms. The youger student types tend to stay in these places but there's plenty of Thais with money that live in pretty decent condos!

Not too much if im staying in a popular Sukhumvit hotel with lots coming and going all the time but i have a favorite spot in Ratchada that is a quiet residence and mostly has families from other parts of Asia staying so sometimes i feel like the only white guy there and i can "feel" all their eyes on me when i walk through the door and im with yet another different woman. Makes me cringe.

Never actually ridden a motorbike but I would like to learn how to for my trip I'm Asia. I'm assuming BKK is the worst place to start learning? I'm better off trying on a less populated thai island?

^ Yep, just stay away from the steep hills. I had a stack first time I rode a bike on Koh Phangan.

I've driven bikes for a couple of years now and I still refuse to in Bangkok. Just too dangerous and the worst drivers you'll ever see. Stay safe!

1. Little or no front brake. Left hand is back brake, Right hand is front brake.
2. Just cruising speed. Don't race.
3. Try not to ride in or after it has rained.
4. Buy gas from gas station, it is cheaper than the bottles on side of road.
5. Rent the oldest most damage motorbike. Cheaper to rent and if you lay the bike down cheaper to fix. I crash about a month ago and only paid for the mirror.
6. Take pics when renting.
7. Rent by the week or month. Better value.
8. Storage compartment under seat for beer.

When sober you can fit yourself and two girls on motorbike. When drunk, let the girl drive. (only if she is Thai)

Have fun. Motorbike is the only way to tour a Thai Island. Freedom.

I would be extremely cautious about driving a bike in Thailand. They have one of the highest traffic fatality rates in the world. Certainly I wouldn't do it in Bangkok, as Taxis are cheap and plentiful.

As for the islands...well I have done it and lived to tell the tale. It is convenient. Its just anecdotal, but one of my best mates got rammed by a car and broke his leg badly while I was there. He was lucky to be alive quite frankly. After a few days in a Thai hospital and $7,500 ticket back home (he had to get a first class seat so his cast would fit), that was enough for me to call it quits. Nothing spoils your time in the land of smiles faster than that!

Oh, almost forgot the best part! He had to bribe both the cops and the owner of car that hit him for "damages"! They said the accident was his fault and they would charge him with reckless driving or whatever unless he paid a "fine" plus the damages of the car that hit him. It wasn't too much, he never really told me the amount, but add insult to injury! As the farang, unless there is concrete proof, if a local hits you then you will almost certainly be found at fault in any accident.

Good advice from Swell though, if you are going to rent one be damn sure to take multiple photos AND videos of the bike, in front of the owner, before you take it out. This applies to anything you rent in Thailand, especially mopods (and jet skis)! They will often try to charge you with any damage on the bike claiming you did it even if the scratch was there unless you have proof it was there first. They have probably charged 20 farangs before you for the scratch / dent and will charge the next 20 after you also. So take lots of pictures if you do rent.

Even then, it's still dangerous. Just today, I almost ran over a dog because he wouldn't move out of the way, and I didn't have much space to my right with a car right next to me. Stupid dog.

^ One of my buddies lived in Bangkok for a few years.

One of his good friends there died in a motor bike accident.

He never rode one after that.

Chiang Rai isn't a bad place to learn to ride a scooter comparatively speaking. I just spent three weekends in the last month and a half riding the scooter I bought my wife in PP and they ride a million times worse in PP than anywhere in Thailand.

One of the best ways to experience Northern Thailand is by motorbike, but best to learn to ride in your home country before you arrive in SEA. You can learn to ride a scooter here, but I would recommend having experience if you plan on riding a big bike in Thailand. If anyone decides to rent in Chiang Rai, send me a PM and I will tell you which shops are the best to rent. Also cheaper to buy a new bike here compared to CM or even BK. There are 7 Honda dealerships within a 2 block radius of Phahonyothin Rd in the center of town.

I also wrote a post on the CM thread on how to obtain your Thai DL. That said, it is dangerous to ride a bike in Thailand and out of the 600 students I teach at the college, 2 have died since the start of the semester in October and another 3 or 4 have spent time, or are now in an ICU.
