I'd strongly recommend a coming-of-age drama called "The Spectacular Now" that sort of flew under the radar in 2013.

It's impressive in its realistic portrait of teenagers and avoids being show-offy or too-clever for its own good. Starts out slow, but really draws you in. Nice scene of seduction at around the 20-minute mark. The main character, Sutter, for all his flaws, is a really smooth operator.

I found it infinitely more likable than "Paper Towns," the John Green novel adaptation which got 1,000 times more publicity but I found a chore to sit through.

Tony Manero (Chile) - highly recommended. One of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen. It's about a middle-aged dude who's obsessed with Saturday Night Fever and Travolta's character. Sounds weird right? You have no idea. Check this one out.

For French practice lately I've been watching French movies, watched Mesrine Parts 1 and 2 over the weekend and I highly, highly recommend seeing them.

They're based on real life French criminal Jacques Mesrine who was famously known for his daring bank robberies and multiple escapes from high security prisons.

Jacques Mesrine

Vincent Cassel plays the main character and is simply a force of nature, the story itself is cool but Cassel is the main reason to watch. His character is alpha as fuck and there are a number of good scenes between him and his various love interests

I am a huge fan of classic Hollywood films and had the fantastic opportunity of viewing "The Maltese Falcon" in theaters today. TCM has partnered with movie theaters across the country to show a different classic film for two days each month. More info about that here. The Maltese Falcon is showing again on Wednesday nationwide.

Anyways, back to the film. WOW. Phenomenal acting, directing, and writing for 1941. Humphrey Bogart just nails it as the slick and shrewd detective Sam Spade. Sydney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre provide tremendous support in their roles. This is one of those movies you can watch over and over and still pick up on new lines or plot details. I am seriously considering going again on Wednesday.

I saw this movie a few times. It gave me a big crush on Sutters love interest in the movie... its not like she is super hot. But she played the role of "loving teenage innocence" very well.

I was interested in seeing London Has Fallen but Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 25%. I noticed that all the reviews talked about xenophobia so I think they are heavily biased. Has anyone seen it?

I got roped into watching Mockingjay Part 2 with friends last night...

This movie (and its predecessor) are a huge, steaming pile of crap. The first two movies, despite their you-go-girl propaganda, were at least entertaining and fun. The last two are tedious and bleak with nothing to recommend them. Both are 2+ hours of completely unlikeable characters, nonexistent chemistry, and a paper-thin world that feels fake and empty, like a high school play with an astronomical budget. I can't explain why this last point bothered me so much, but I've never seen a sci-fi movie/TV show with such a hokey, unconvincing setting.

I don't think the problem is really from lack of trying; even without reading the books I can tell the movies are adapted from sophomoric storytelling, but the amount of effort invested in a production that doesn't justify itself just makes the whole thing seem more ridiculous.

Jennifer Lawrence is the ultimate feminist superhero: she's basically a man with boobs, who goes around killing people and "winning" while being worshiped by basically the entire world around her. She's not even particularly good looking. Skip this one at all costs, gents.

Watched this last night for the first time.... overall excellent movie. It didn't seem to have to much commercial sucess for whatever reason. But it is certainly worth a watch. It even has a Matrix "redpill" reference.

Today I watched "Hardcore Henry", and I can truly recommend it. It's a Sci-Fi action movie, interestingly shown in a first person perspective. It has some serious Red Pill themes, which I can't get into without spoiling the movie. The protagonist is a recently deceased/cyborg super-soldier in the vein of Robo-cop and universal soldier. It is action packed with gratuitous violence. It had a (partly) Russian production theme and is set somewhere in Russia.

Went to the movies recently and watched Captain America: Civil War. Damn man, this movie was everything I had hoped Batman versus Superman would be. I cringed at Scarlet Johan Johansson’s character Black Widow being able to simultaneously kick ass multiple soldiers in close quarters combat who had more than 100+ pounds on her with relative ease but alas there has to be some form of ‘girl power’ lest the film doesn’t fill out the check list I guess.

Was sad that there was no Hulk or Thor. Love me the Smashing and L’Oreal hair guy destroying shit in style. Was delighted that they were able to bring Spider Man into the film, though I was perplexed at his age. Shit man, it’s a teenager. It’s like watching the Curious Case of Benjamin Button again.

Story was acceptable and the action pure awesome. Can’t really believe how far we’ve come with the CGI and choreography in a couple of decades since the first BAM – BAM – POWs in the original Batman series.

Though honestly I’m getting a little fatigued with this Super Hero craze right now. Don’t get me wrong. I am able to watch my childhood heroes on the big screen without huge retcons or fuckups (video game movies I am looking at you) which I greatly appreciate but the thing is – it’s just getting too much and too big.

I watched all off the Marvel Super Hero movies and was starting to get problems following everybody. Who is who, who hates who and why because I did not read all the comic strips or watched the accompanying series to get the whole picture. I can see that they are trying their best to keep the whole thing connected and separated at the same time but I think it would be wise to wrap it up in the following year or two – otherwise it will just become a bloated mess with a bitter aftertaste.

Still, good movie. Recommended popcorn flick. Be it in the theater or torrented (when available).

Sat through a Netflix pick called "Man Up" which I was willing to give a chance since it featured Simon Pegg. The lead female is played by Lake Bell (I think I saw her referred to on these pages as 'the posterchild for Mrs. Butterface') and, somewhat ironically given the title of the film, her face comes across as very manly despite what I am sure were the makeup department's best efforts. Great body, but...

I'm trying to imagine how I would have received this movie pre-discovery of the Red Pill, but seeing it now, everything about it just screamed out at me.

Female character is unlucky in love (she's a frumpy 30-something with a 'career', go figure) and takes a chance on snagging someone else's blind date (Simon Pegg). They gradually hit it off, and spend a day waltzing around London doing cool and hipsterish things (bowling, which she's actually really good at, what a quirky twist!) until things unravel. I should probably say "spoiler alert" but it may come as no surprise that they end up together in each others' arms.

Without going into too much detail, two things really stood out for me:
-in the film, the Lake Bell character is supposed to be 32 and Pegg 40; she ridicules him for wanting to hook up with a 24-year old (the person who was supposed to be his blind date). That's one thing; what makes it even more precious is that, at the time this movie was made, Bell was 37 herself.
-Bell's character is supposed to be on her way to what, one imagines, is a big deal: her parents' 40th wedding anniversary. The party is full of family and friends there to celebrate a long and happy marriage, however when Bell shows up she gets centre stage and launches into a soliloquy about her failed love life which everyone listens to sympathetically (apparently they are all aware of her 'unlucky in love' situation) until Pegg shows up to save the day; no-one tells her to stop being such a self-centred attention whore at her parents' party.

Anyway, a very forgettable flick, but I appreciated the chance to really see, under the influence of RP, what a feminist dreck chick-flick really looks like. It got a bullseye on all the hamsterisms that get mentioned in RVF, it was as though they were working off a checklist.

Saw this the other day. I was considerably disappointed that Tony "I won't hand over my suit to the USGOV" suddenly decides he wants to give his balls to a UN bureaucracy. Talk about vomiting up the red pill. Other than that the movie was good. I always get a laugh out of Antman.

Speaking of laughs, I'll probably get booed off the thread for this but I watched Get Hard last night after watching Daddy's Home a week earlier. I was never really big on Will Ferrell's early stuff but these two movies had me in stitches.

Saw it on Popcorn Time. Good movie. Some stupid jokes I could do without, between main characters, other than that a good action movie.
