It started for me when i saw an ROK article on Facebook back in early 2013. The article had a lot of stuff that I really enjoyed reading and so I started clicking on more and more articles. It then became a habit to read everything I saw on the site.
Then, I saw a post that linked the forum. I lurked for a couple months, and forgot to register a few times when it was open to register on the first of every month. I finally remembered when I was on vacation to the beach, and decided to share some personal experiences that really introduced me to the current mindset I have today.
My whole outlook on women, myself, and life in general has really changed. I started dressing better, became much more confident, and improved myself in ways that I wouldn't have thought of in my younger years.
It was truly an eye opening experience and I appreciate each and every man on this forum that gives advice and shares his life experiences. Cheers everyone.

Eventually swallowed the red pill after reading more articles and lurking on the forum. Joined after the big meetup outrage so I wouldn't get locked out again!

I hated Feminism and Western women for ages and was following avoiceformen.com (2009). Someone mention Roosh and that his writing style was rude and offensive. It actually applied to me! The men's right movement is a pack of betas which I couldn't stand but it was the only group I found in 2009 that had the same views as me I've been studying "game" since 2005 (David Deangelo) and once '24 signs she's a slot,' went viral, I was hooked on ROF and found this forum next after Googling Roosh. I also bought 'BANG and thought this guy knows his stuff were I learnt a lot more about' game'. Since about 2011 I've been on ROK or RVF whenever I use the internet.
I spend a lot of time in Eastern countries (mainly Thailand) where people are more sane. I wouldn't have done so if it wasn't for Roosh!
I haven't touched a western women since 2011 where I've never been more happier with banging Eastern women that are brought up to respect men compare to Western countries that treat men like slaves. I look at Western women as mentally ill and try to avoid them like the plague.

Getting on to how I found the forum, I was contemplating study and travel options for the future, and like all red pill and some purple pill guys thought success with girls is a measure of how good a place is to go to. So I was searching for how open Japanese girls were for interacting with westerners, and somehow I stumbled across the forum.
Eerily similar to my experience. Though I was looking up Norwegian girls as I fancied doing a Scandinavia trip. Of course, after a few days digesting the forum obsessively, I decided Eastern Europe was better suited to my ideals - completely changed my life. Changed careers, solidified my political beliefs, and made friends with many guys in real life - I owe Roosh and all the contributors a hell of a lot.

In my introductory post I explained the key stages of my personal development in relation to game, and in this post I will outline what ideas, forums and people influenced my involvement in pickup and ultimately lead me here.
I was inspired to share this in response to some members asking how I arrived at RVF, and after hearing Roosh’s podcast with Samseau, “How the manosphere crushed feminism” – a must-listen for its compelling outline of the history and significance of the pickup community and manosphere.
For the sake of anonymity, I can’t publicly disclose specific information about my personal situation or the pickup groups mentioned, however I’m happy to share more data in private with members that have been verified in person by at least two independent RVFers or by at least one RVFer that I’ve met.
My Path to RVF: Ideas, Forums and Figures of Influence
Stage one: a bolt from the gods
My interest in psychology was sparked in 2003 when I met a Buddhist monk who shared teachings on detachment and meditation. Later that year, I was still an utterly hopeless virgin a few years out of high school and searched for questions like ‘why are women like this?’ after getting my little heart broken. This lead me to ladder theory and then, the big one, the Fast Seduction forum (or mASF). This represented the most important intellectual discovery of my life and I dived head first into the deep end.
I started hitting the streets alone and consumed vast amounts of literature. In addition to my favourite posters on mASF (e.g., TokyoPUA, GoneSavage, 60, Zarathustra, Alessandro, etc), I read David DeAngelo, Cliff’s List, David Deida, Vin diCarlo, Mystery and more. More broadly, I studied Robert Cialdini, Robert Greene, Richard Bandler, Anthony Robbins, Barry Schwartz, Albert Ellis, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Daniel Goldman and so on.
Top 10 game lessons at the time:
(1) Nice guys finish last; attraction is not a choice.
(2) Do not supplicate -- I don’t need women’s approval.
(3) I am the prize. Get her to invest.
(4) I must lead, hard. This means approaching a lot, deflecting objections, and really persisting.
(5) The risk of rejection is better than the regret of inaction.
(6) Infected by one-itis? Time to GFTOW (go fuck ten other women).
(7) Look at what women do over what they say. Consider anti-slut defence.
(8) Success with women can be a learnable skill, although it takes massive effort to gain mastery.
(9) The map is not the territory.
(10) Never forget the first rule of fight club.
Stage two: real-life brotherhood
While I met a few guys through the SoSuave and mASF forums, it wasn't until 2005 that a local, dedicated crew came together. Around this time PUA lairs across major Australian cities were also established though Yahoo Groups. Later that year, 'The Game' came out and there was an explosion of membership applications. I’ve met some great guys that found pickup through this book, however I can tell you that the underground consensus was clear – Style was a fraud and a sell-out.
What these forums lacked in activity, they made up for in quality. There was tight member screening and strict precautions for privacy -- before you could get access to the exclusive sections, you needed to show you were dedicated and trustworthy. This was achieved by meeting other guys in person, approaching, and adding value by writing reports. No sitting by the sidelines and speculating allowed. Such a process represented a clear rite of passage for young men and the resulting high level of trust enabled members to share incredibly detailed and personal stories. These were exciting times.
The figures that became the most influential on my development were guys that I knew in real life, rather than internet gurus. I would have met over 200 guys from these and similar groups, from the most clueless rookie virgins to master players banging Aussie FHM models to family men with kids.
Of note for those doubting the power of game: I rolled with some players who schooled me and opened my eyes to what was possible. For instance, I remember watching a wingman pull a chick home from a club, bang her, and then come back and pull again. He is now one of my best mates and has over 100 same-night lays from pure cold-approaching. Like me, he looks like an average bloke – he isn’t tall, good-looking or jacked, and he does not flash money or have fame to leverage. You would have no idea of his legendary exploits just by looking at him, yet he put in the work and got the rewards.
Stage three: the revelation of foreign women
By early 2007 I had developed an obsession with understanding, banging and converting North-East Asian women into harem or girlfriend material. I’m not saying I was anywhere close to the best player around, after all I’ve had to overcome some historical game disadvantages (such as a speech impediment), but I did put in a massive amount of work and was super energised by this Asian revelation.
I had already learned the hard way that it was taboo to openly question the value of Aussie women and to profess your desire for Asian or other non-Western females, so having a brotherhood of guys into pickup and foreign chicks was seriously awesome. After joining several niche lairs across Asia, I learned a lot from meeting dozens of players during my solo travels and by reading hundreds of posts from the resident experts.
Around 2009 I read a lay report set in Peru and became intrigued with Latina women, which lead me to search online and discover rooshv.com. I felt an immediate connection with his writings due to the celebration of finding joy in meeting foreign women, and I determined Roosh's site to be, hands down, the premium online resource regarding Latinas. RVF assisted me to plan future trips to South America and elsewhere, and helped me to enjoy several great holidays. Thank you gents.
Stage four: beyond pickup
By late 2011 player fatigue had set in and I got into a serious relationship. While I became less active online, the game never ends, and I became familiar with Roissy/Heartiste, Rollo, Marc Rudov and other figures. While I was undoubtedly impressed with the level of insight showed (e.g., Roissy’s '16 commandments of poon') I was simultaneously demoralised (e.g., by Imran Khan’s 'The Misandry Bubble'). The further negativity and victim mindset of MGTOW was unappealing, as I was jaded enough after going through countless rejections, heart-wrenching breakups, and gleaning disturbing insights into female promiscuity through years of clubbing and quick bangs.
I considered that it was perfectly natural to feel frustrated and angry during the shock phase of seeing the matrix, or in the aftermath of a serious wound like divorce, however I also recognised the real physical and mental cost of holding on to anger and viewing every social action as being alpha/beta. No doubt I appreciated the cautionary tales, yet during this time I worked with men in real life and saw the long-term effects of seething indignation, externalised blame, and getting stuck on problems rather than focusing on solutions and taking action. These outcomes included alcoholism, health issues, social isolation and more.
Despite all this, I had met a couple of very lovely and trustworthy women and, in view of some other life events, felt that getting too involved in the manosphere was a recipe for these positive anchors of mind to get eroded. These themes are explored more eloquently by H1N1 in 'The dangers of the red pill', Quintus Curtius in 'There Are No Consequences For Women', and The Lizard of Oz in 'Don't Let Frustration With Women Make You Feel Bad About Life In General'.
Stage five: The end of pickup lairs, and the rise of the Roosh forum
By late 2014, the local and niche pickup groups were mostly defunct. The final nail in the coffin was the backlash against the clown Julien Blanc which sent a few forum owners and members into a spiral of worry, ending in some forums shutting down completely. That said, the main factor seems to be related to changes in technology, notably:
(1) Free, high-speed porn, which means a lowered desire to approach and persist.
(2) The prevalence of the iphone, along with social media and online dating as a platform for guys to satisfy their infinite thirst, not only exaggerates womens’ self-image but also reduces the real-life action required to get laid. Roosh’s podcast “The Death of Night Game” expands on this in great detail.
(3) These and other distractions of the internet creates an expectation of constant attention, immediate stimulation and entitlement to knowledge. The long-term implications are yet to be seen, however the evidence so far on creativity, happiness and ongoing relationships is not encouraging.
(4) A decade ago there was little in the way of highly-nuanced information about banging select nationalities outside of these private forums, however the expanse of publicly-available, free information and paid products globally has reduced the need for niche groups.
Due to these and other factors, men are now less inclined to learn pickup as a skill and to put in the work required to achieve mastery. Learning game is no longer seen as a requirement to get girls. Roosh notes:
Quote:Guys coming up right now are the softest mankind has ever seen. They play the "game" on okcupid, get an occasional date, and call it a day. I rolled with guys who were serious about getting laid. We were hungry, and did everything it took. ‘Get laid or die trying.’ Did I take it too far? Did I make it too serious? Perhaps, but I worked for it and was rewarded. Guys don't want to work anymore.
Some other factors that propelled me to post at RVF:
- I had a rough break-up and started going out again, hard, before finding my current missus.
- While a local pickup group appeared on facebook, it was largely comprised of guys who just wanted to go clubbing or do spam approaches rather than get involved in more holistic spheres or post highly-detailed reports.
- The core of my long-time crew were in committed relationships.
- A mate went through a horrible divorce because of Australia’s family court law, in which women are incentivised to create false allegations of abuse to gain custody over their children and ongoing child support payments. After hearing this horror story, it became clear that first-world feminist notions about the “all-oppressive patriarchy” are utterly contrived, misleading, and moreover dangerous delusions.
Stage six: Meeting RVFers and the outlook ahead
When I came back to RVF so to speak, I stumbled across some hilarious parodies (Tuthmosis’ 'American girls be like'), frighteningly realistic tales (Roosh’s 'Patricia’s Smartphone') and an ideology that deeply resonated with me (Roosh’s 'What is NeoMasculinity'). I was likewise impressed by the intellectual power of Quintus Curtius, sociological insights from AnonymousBosch, touching history of Cleanslate, hectic bang missions from 20Nation, crew building by Irish, game analysis by XXL, independent thought from Beyond Borders, and much more.
In addition to my desire for networking, personal growth, and giving back, I decided to contribute here considering the forum’s:
(1) Travel section, which remains unparalleled across any forum for its breadth and depth of information.
(2) Exploration of greener pastures and celebration of men finding happiness beyond their home turf or with exotic women at home.
(3) Holistic self-development and cutting-edge game theory.
(4) Core principles of neomasculinity as outlined by Roosh, including the need for game, hard work, independence of thought, support for biologically-driven gender roles, and more.
(5) Emphasis on the importance of game and the manosphere in saving men’s lives and protecting their health.
(6) High signal-to-noise ratio. Although I may have to be fairly measured in what I write about political or other topics for now (having less than 50 posts), I believe that strong, transparent moderation is an important factor in keeping the quality of posts high. Indeed, the sheer number of deep discussions archived at RVF is incredible.
(7) Visual look and navigation that is easy on the eyes.
(8) Hilarious ribbing of self-obsessed consumer zombies and incidental diabetes advocates.
It has been a challenging yet rewarding and fun journey so far. I've had some great meetups recently and look forward to some more. Here’s to the future, cheers!

Same friend from earlier who had now graduated (and whom many forum members as well as Roosh have now met) introduces me to Mike's "Danger and Play" website - thus saving my life. From there I start following the recommended links in the sidebar, and am introduced to Roissy, Roosh's blog, and from there to the forum. Mike and Roosh's stories about rough sex, being accused of rape, what women really want, the cancer that is feminism, etc, kept me sane - it reaffirmed that I wasn't the crazy one, the majority of people were!

I got in the game when the PUA craze was at it's height around 2008 - 2010. Watched The Pickup Artist on VH1, bought Neil Strauss's "The Game" as well a print version of The Mystery Method and everything just snowballed from there. I was involved on a forum that had regular newbie sarge nights which I attended quite a few times and also did a lot of sarging on my own in my local area. A lot of this game stuff is very online oriented so I ended up on a few other online communities, even joined RSDNation and met a few guys from there offline as well.
Eventually on my online journey I stumbled on Rooshs blog and the forums around 2011. At that time the place was going through the transition between purely being on game/travel and politics/cultural analysis - with the latter being based mostly via criticisms of feminism and it's negative effects for men trying to date but there was some posts hinting at how the rot goes deeper then just simply putting a hamper on men's games. I know there's quite a few forum old-timers who aren't happy with the turn towards politics and cultural analysis but for me that's always been what separated this forum from the other game communities around the web. I've always been a huge internet junkie since I was a kid and I've been involved with a lot of forums and internet communities and I can say that this forum has done more then any other place to mold my personal philosophy and worldview. If I can be a bit hyperbolic I think it's actually had more of an effect on me then a lot of offline influences as well. I definitely feel I've learned more on here then I've had in my 20+ years of formal education.
In 2008, I had a red pill injection that caused me to FINALLY question my beta basis. This led to wanderings around the web, including CH and a few other Manosphere blogs.
Around 2011, Captain Capitalism linked ROK/RvF in one of his articles and I was hooked.
Much respect to Cappy Cap! I highly recommend his books. They are all entertaining, quick reads and he presents persuasive and very non-conformist financial advice. The man lives by his own terms and produces quality product for other men to use. About the only thing I disagree with is his advice to get vasectomy before having any kids. Other than that, CC has excellent financial/lifestyle advice for young guys - get your financial house in order early and align your lifestyle to spend your top resource - time - with those you love.
I went to a Tucker Max book signing in 2011 or 2012. For reasons I don't remember, I did a google search involving him that led me to an article in the Weekly Standard.
I think it was a mixture of The Game and Tucker Max. Also getting red-pilled in every aspect around the time. Deeply examining power in the US, foreign policy, and so-called "wedge issues". Also may have been backpacking that got me into look for location independent lifestyle writing. roosh's negative media coverage pre-montreal or pre-meetup also got me to ROK.

For me, I always had a fascination with Asian women. About 2 years ago, I was just getting over a relationship with a Cantonese-American chick and had plans with a friend of mine to go to Taiwan. He hyped up Taipei to me and hinted to me that the girls there liked white guys. I wanted to find some of the best spots for nightlife in the city, so I searched Taipei on google. When the results came up, one of the first links was to a datasheet on the city that gave tips on the best spots. I kept that in the back of my mind and after having a little success in Taiwan, I came back to the forum and discovered pages of datasheets on several countries and cities, along with notch count stories. Months later I registered an account on here and have done more trips since.
As far back as I could remember, I always wanted to be a player.
Over the course of many years, basically; googling relationship advice and ending up on 'The Art of Manliness' website. An article on there one day concerned Jack Donovan and 'The Way of Men' book. Bought 'The Way of Men' on kindle, and later amazon suggested 'Bachelor Pad Economics' by Aaron Clarey. Bought that, and started reading his Captain Capitalism blog. Captain Capitalism mentioned 'Return of Kings'. Started reading 'Return of Kings' and noticed references to a mysterious 'rooshvforum'.
Nobody in my everyday life (in the UK) would have any idea who any of these people were, so no way would I have found this out by word of mouth. Thank god for the internet.
