Now I do: they are more scared of that than getting killed. Most of the discussions were about gun control, and the rest is homophobia. I don't recall seeing a single media story mentioning Islamic terrorism.

These tests are done to appease insurance companies and as a protection against lawsuits. It gives the company a way to say "we did our best to keep out the kooks".

That article and many other mentions in the news are intentionally deceptive. The supposed shooter had a armed security guard license, and this has nothing to do with concealed. There is one license for security guard, and another for a security guard who can be armed. A concealed carry permit is totally unrelated to this and does not grant a security guard permission to be armed on duty. They are just taking a pot shot at concealed carry, so the sheeple associate "concealed" with this event just like they are supposed to now associate AR-15.

On the national evening news last night (I think it was ABC News), one of the anchors said that authorities have found no definitive proof the killer was on any gay dating apps.

Unfortunately, I can't find this confirmed online.

But if this proves true and it turns out he wasn't a closeted gay guy, that changes the game, I think. A lot of people on the left are trying to deflect the terrorist accusation and make this about "self-hatred." If he wasn't on Grindr or whatever, that's going to be significant. Wait a minute. If someone pledges allegiance to something, how can it be a publicity stunt? If that's what they believe their allegiance to be -- even mockingly -- then that's what it becomes.

For example, let's say I commit an act of violence and pledge allegiance to the KKK because I like the Ramones song "The KKK Took My Baby Away." Even if the KKK disavows me and even if my rationale is completely ridiculous, I still had an allegiance to the group in my head! So that makes it real.

And, as everyone knows, if this killer had been involved with KKK or a right-wing American group, no one would be questioning any allegiances there.

I know psychs and there is a lot of context surrounding this. As you say the press in a situation like this is to keep costs down and fill slots for a security company, which makes money on every guard posted.

Get an experienced evaluator who is knowledgeable about testing and interviewing on this with twelve hour's pay guaranteed and he MIGHT see the cracks in a guy like this--or at helpfully say "He's minimizing and faking good." With good standardized tests faking good is highly apparent unless the test-taker is specifically trained in that test. Pilots and police applicants are known for lying like crazy (faking good) on pre-employment screening.

That would be about $1500 or more, no way is that security company paying that. As you say, they just want a signature from a licensed person to bring into court when the guy goes nuts.

The larger, more reliable behavior sample in this case is his co-workers who were very clear in saying how chronically angry this guy was.
People very, very rarely keep up a front forever, because they believe they're right in whatever level of madness they operate from.
