Do you mean the J-20 or the J-31 or something else? J-20 is operational. J-31 is only recently revealed as a prototype, not claimed by China to be even as good as the F-35.

Quote:As has been repeated numerous times on this forum, the US always underplays its technological capabilities, while China always overplays its own.

Not exactly. have you heard of the Chinese National Strategic Fooyou Agency?

That's an inside joke for the Chinese, but it's nonetheless true that General Zhang underplayed China's true military capacity, not overplayed it.

Quote:Many of Zhang’s words were denied by facts later, such as soon after he claimed that there were no J-20 and J-16 fighters and DF-21D is not able to attack aircraft carriers, these weapons were verified.

There is also the Underground Great Wall of China, which led Western experts to speculate that China's nuclear capacity is underreported. China said that "among the nuclear-weapon states, China ... possesses the smallest nuclear arsenal," implying China has fewer than the United Kingdom's 200 nuclear weapons.' But STRATCOM commander C. Robert Kehler said that the best estimates were "in the range of several hundred" warheads and FAS estimated the current total to be "approximately 240 warheads". Does this look like China is overplaying its capacity?

There is also speculations by Western experts that China has been understating its real military budget.

The US certainly has a lot of weapons in secret. What we don't know is how much access China has to those secrets. As a Chinese defectors recently claimed that China has 25000 spies in the US.
http://freebeacon.com/national-security/...e-officers

China never pretend/claim that its military capacity is anywhere near that of the US. For example, Fu Ying, a spokeswoman for China's military legislature, said this on Trump's military budget increase:

Quote:“Fundamentally, this is about the United States worrying that China could catch up and surpass the U.S. in its ability,” she said. “But in fact there is a still a huge gap in ability between the U.S. and China, which is still a developing country.

Yet in a report by the Pentagon on China's military power, it's said that:

Quote:The PLAAF (PLA Air Force) continues to modernize and is closing the gap rapidly with Western air forces across a broad spectrum of capabilities. This development is gradually eroding the significant technical advantage held by the United States.

As usual, civilians like you can afford to underestimate China's military capacity. But those in charge of defense cannot. A funny thing is that people in the West have been claiming that all this talk about China taking over the world is China's propaganda, and that China purposefully exaggerate its economic and military capacity. But anyone with a real understanding of China's propaganda would see the opposite. China in fact vehemently disputes the World Bank's claim that it is the biggest economy by PPP. Whereas some Western experts estimated that China's economy could be bigger than what it reports.

Let's not forget that Deng Xiaoping's dictum is "Hide your capacity, bide your time, never try to take the lead", and this has been China's modus operandi for a long time..

As has been repeated numerous times on this forum, the US always underplays its technological capabilities, while China always overplays its own.

Though, to be clear, the US also does overstate some of the capabilities of its publicly-announced technologies, like the F-35, but I'm talking about the entirely new technologies that they keep completely shrouded in secrecy.

I get you without a doubt. While reading your post I was thinking about the Xian H-20 which it looks like an almost exact rip of the B2.

Quote:The Xian H-20 (Chinese: 轰-20; pinyin: Hōng-20; alternatively Xian H-X) is a subsonic stealth bomber design of the People's Liberation Army Air Force, due to enter service in the future. Referred to as a "strategic project" by the People's Liberation Army, the aircraft will feature a wing design similar to that of the Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit, with components already being manufactured. Analysts noted that the new type bomber may enter service by 2025, and will seek to replace China's existing fleet of Xian H-6K bombers.[1][2][3][4]

Quote:GOP hijacks Democrats' bill on Jeff Sessions, uses it to target Hillary Clinton

Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday commandeered a Democrat resolution demanding more information about Attorney General Jeff Sessions' actions and turned it into a resolution demanding further investigation into Hillary Clinton.

It happened after a 2.5-hour debate that devolved into a series of partisan point scoring and sanctimony on dozens of political scandals ranging from the Nixon administration to the Clinton impeachment, to the more modern inquiries to determine how damaging Russia's influence was on the 2016 elections.

Democrats were hoping to put Republicans on the spot with a "resolution of inquiry" that, if it had passed, would have asked the Department of Justice to provide documents related to any potential involvement Sessions had in the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

The resolution was sponsored by Democrats Reps. Pramila Jayapal of Washington and David Cicilline of Rhode Island.

But Republicans used their majority in the committee to tack on an amendment that struck the Democrats' language and instead called for a special counsel to investigate matters more closely related to Hillary Clinton and the Obama administration. That includes the recently revealed information that former Attorney General Loretta Lynch asked Comey to refer to the Clinton email scandal as a "matter" instead of an "investigation."

It passed along party lines in the committee, 15-13.

Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte of Virginia defended the move by saying Democrats were being "redundant" for seeking information from the administration while the Robert Mueller special counsel investigation was ongoing.

"This resolution seems to be just one more opportunity for my colleagues on the other side of the aisle to vicariously voice Hillary Clinton's long and growing list for why she lost the election," Goodlatte said.

Jayapal said the committee had fallen down with its responsibilities by not investigating Russia matters, "even as our counterparts in the Senate Judiciary Committee and the House and Senate Intelligence Committees have put country over party and have refused to step away from their essential roles."

Democrats have made similar moves in other committees, trying to force votes on small issues related to President Trump and the ongoing Russia investigations. On Tuesday, Republicans torpedoed an effort by Democrats in the House Ways and Means Committee that would have allowed the committee to gain access to Treasury Department documents that might show ties between Trump and Russia.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi announced the party's strategy earlier this month when she said at a news conference, "We will force Republicans to take votes on the record to continue hiding facts from the American people."

Neither the Democrats' original resolution nor the Republican's amendment that followed may be that notable, in the end. The Democrats' resolution did not have the legal force of a subpoena, which means it could very well be ignored by the Justice Department. And the Republicans' request for a special counsel to investigate Clinton-related matters is only that, a request.

Meanwhile, ever since President Trump took office, economy has been improving.

Somehow the fake news channels will have to try to spin this as "another win for the Democrats!"

I guess they will just not report on it, as if you read the last couple of lines of the article, the Justice Department will likely just ignore the request, Trump is content to not investigate the Clintons and wants to move on with his own agenda.

By "operational", I mean that their military is actually using them. The J-20 was only officially introduced to service a few months ago and there are only a handful of them.

That's why simply flying the jet in public is still such a big deal, which it has to be "readied" for:

http://www.scmp.com/news/china/diplomacy...-hong-kong

Meanwhile, the F-22 that they're based on has been in service since 2005.

And the J-31 is based on the F-35, which is why a Chinese spy went to jail for stealing the designs. And it still won't be in service for years.

That isn't a surprise, given that the F-35 has its own issues, which is why I never said anything about whether the J-31 was "as good as" the F-35.

Bro, I've been living in and posting in-depth about Asia since before you even joined this forum. And the majority of the China-based members on the forums agree with most of my assessments.

Their propaganda is, in many cases, outrageous. The US has its own propaganda as well, of course, which is why we spend so much time dissecting it in this section of the forum.

Your arguments regarding China have long since crossed into the trolling arena, where you pick and choose whatever information suits your position while ignoring everything else.

I'm not "underestimating" anything about China, I'm simply portraying their capabilities in a realistic light, as opposed to what you and many in the Western and Chinese media do.

By your own admission, China is still behind the US in terms of military technology, and there's no reason to think that they will catch up if the Trump administration actually does their job. That's basic common sense, given that the US has already been one of, if not the, premier military superpowers for the past 100 years.

Does that mean that the US defense apparatus should simply ignore China? Of course not. And never have I suggested anything as ridiculous as that.

Enigma bro, my apologize if my language came across as offensive or trolling. Please do know that I don't mean it.

I didn't say that you were suggesting that the US should ignore China. My argument was aimed at your claim that 'China always overplays its tecnological capacity'. I merely attempted to show that this isn't true. I did not say anything like China was approaching the US on military capacity. I merely showed that they too underplayed their capacity when it's strategic to do so. To see China as always overplaying their capacity is, in my view, an underestimation of China's real capacity.

Do China sometimes overplays its capacity? Sure. They do when its's strategical to do so. But not always. Far from it.

Quote:‘REMINISCENT OF HILLARY’: Reporter mocks Dems’ latest slogan

The Democrats’ tongue twister of a new slogan to counter President Trump and the Republicans backfired today.

So much so, even a member of the mainstream media mocked it and compared it to Hillary Clinton’s convoluted, failed message.

During a segment on MSNBC, Chris Jansing ridiculed the Dems’ slogan, which she had to read off a piece of paper to get it right.

“A better deal, better skills, better jobs, better wages — doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue because I had to read it,” she said.

She added it “sounds like Papa John’s better ingredients, better pizza,” slogan.

The Washington Post’s Anne Gearan laughed at the moment.

“Democrats may have handed Republicans something to make fun of them with.

“It doesn’t roll of the tongue and it’s reminiscent, frankly, of the main pillars of the Hillary Clinton campaign,” Gearan said.

Meanwhile, Republicans appeared near the Dems’ press conference and handed out Papa Johns lookalike boxes, reminded attendees it may be “better ideas,” but Nancy Pelosi is still the leader.

“Better skills, better jobs, better wages, still Pelosi,” the cover of the box read.

Is almost poetic, I remember after Obama won 2012 election, the media and the DNC were clamoring how the Republican will never win the White House again, there were article after article, news segment after another, and all pundits on MSM talking how old and obsolete the Republicans are, while celebrating how cool, trendy and hip the Democrats were.

Now, look at them, is like a bunch of older people trying to be cool to younger people.

They don't understand is not the slogan only, they were championing what exactly? illegals, trannies, not the guy with kids and a wife that have to pay rent and many others bills.

Also he timed it with a court membership put in his favor as well. It may take some time for the liberals to get all the filings put in, unless the court takes an emergency file, which is likely because some of the ones inside right now, will likely get discharged if they do not go back to their normal gender.

SamBRo, a few things.

I do not live in China nor do I claim to do so. I live in Vietnam. But I've spent some times in China. I have relatives there and even studied there for a short while. I come there almost biannually. I do not live there yet because I can't stand the polluted air. But I may plan to in the future if the pollution wears off (in about 10 years or so, presumably).

I have talked about other issues on this forums before. I just talk about China more frequently now. I talk about China often because I'm interested in China's rise as a geopolitical event. I'm also a Sinophile and Sinospherical traditionalist. I've an obsession with China. No disputing that. If that makes me come off as a weirdo, so be it.

I'm still learning about this vast and complex country, and where I'm wrong about China, I welcome anyone who can correct me on it.

I do talk about China beyond graphs and charts. See my answers on Quora:
https://www.quora.com/profile/Shanan-Rua...5%E5%AE%89

You can contact me on Quora to confirm if you have an account.

When it's relevant I also talk about Chinese related things that are beyond charts and graphs (how do I know that the Strategic Fooyou Agency is a Chinese inside joke?). It's it's often irrelevant, and I post charts and graphs because I don't expect you will just take my words for it, not knowing me personally. I also don't like to pose myself as an be-all end-all authority about a country just because I live there. Even Americans disagree with each other about what America is like/its states of affair.

I can talk about how startlingly upfront Chinese girls can be about how they expect you to provide for them materially (house and cars, etc.), how the Chinese like to defend their government in front of foreigners but harshly criticize its policies in their circles because they have to save face in front of outsiders and they consider you an outsiders, how lax law enforcement is in China and you can park your cars practically anywhere, etc. But that's just not the topics that come up recently.

Last but not least, Deng Xiaoping is by no means obscure and his famous Taoguan Yanghui dictum is very central to China's political thinking.

This is pretty off-topic and I don't intend to derail it any further. We can talk about it elsewhere like in the Trump China Policy thread or the Everything Goes thread.

Cheer!

I saw a crossdresser on the subway last week who looked like he was dying of Aids and had a really nasty cough. Any time someone would sit next to him, he would lean directly into their face and start coughing. So much for being the paragon of all things good and right in the world.

Although it remains to be said that it could all be illusionary electronic money which in many ways do not reflect real economic activity. Which in 2008 was revealed to be sham in many ways since much of that "wealth'' never truly existed.

Given how the financial sector operates I wouldn't put it past them. With their derivatives and other shenanigans.
