Dropping bombs on actual Jihadis in contrast to on an army that fights them - I am all for it. Don't know how helpful that will be as Afghanistan is already a shitshow, but bombing Jihadis can never hurt and makes the world generally better.

Getting back on topic:

I was very enthused by the Trump campaign. I've told everybody I know for at least 20 years that voting is a waste of time. However, in 2016 that changed. I am a UK citizen but if I had been American I would have voted for Trump. I live in Europe but I spent quite a bit of time in the couple of weeks before the election logging on to liberal forums and trying to get Clinton people to vote for Stein. I figured it was too much of an ask to get them to vote Trump. I like to think that I got a few people to vote for Stein and so made a contribution to Trumps scintillating victory.

Let's not deny that a lot has gone well since the inaugaration. Trump threw out TPP and the abortion funding and he seems to be getting immigration under some sort of control. However, he is gradually succumbing to what everybody now calls the deep state. In retrospect it was naive to think that this would not happen. The National Security State dates back to 1947 in it's present form, when the CIA was founded. They have had 70 years to consolidate a massive power structure and must have a hold over every single politically-relevant personality - at least in the US

Yes, the attempted enforcement of groupthink on here is sad, but then why should it be any different on here than in SJW circles - we are all human.

I've told this story before I'm pretty sure but when I was on QRF one time a female helicopter pilot ripple fired her rockets into an Iraqi Police convoy, thinking they were insurgents, and killed a bunch of them.

It made international news. We were all gathered around the TV watching the coverage of a major friendly fire incident that happened like a half mile away while we were sleeping.

Good times.

War zones are a lot more chaotic and confusing than people realize. Maybe this was deliberate, but it could very easily have been a mistake. Shit, I thought my squad was going to get lit up by Kiowas one time because they started circling our position at night--a different spot than where we said we were going to be--and we couldn't raise them on the radio. I was sitting there trying to flash morse code at them with my PVS-14 IR light to let them know we were friendlies with no idea if they understood. (I mean, you would think anyone flashing IR in Iraq circa 2007 was a friendly, but I didn't know if they could even see the light.) That was a scary few minutes.

I think this comes down to cost. In Afghanistan, for an M777 gun to fire off a Excalibur round, the Canadians need to get permission from the minister of defence back in Canada to authorize using the round. Apparently they cost $500,000 each.

Not sure how it might be in the US but I don't see the MOAB being cheap. Shitty deal though because that call can mean the difference between saving lives or the enemy escaping.

I googled the Excalibur round, wondering how it could be so expensive, and several links on ths first page list it as $68K or $70K. Still expensive, but more believable. It's an extended range, high precision artillery round, with 2m accuracy at 50km.
