I wonder if this hippy ever thought his song would be so prescient of Trump's ascendancy. (Watchmen version chosen for sound quality)
Come gather 'round people Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters Around you have grown
And accept it that soon You'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin' Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come writers and critics Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who That it's namin'
For the loser now Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come senators, congressmen Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside And it is ragin'
It'll soon shake your windows And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come mothers and fathers Throughout the land
And don't criticize What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters Are beyond your command
Your old road is Rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.
The line it is drawn The curse it is cast
The slow one now Will later be fast
As the present now Will later be past
The order is Rapidly fadin'
And the first one now Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

It's a Patrick McNaughton painting called The Forgotten Man. I love paintings in this style, he's the same guy whose other paintings have been meme'd with Jesus/Velociraptor heads, etc. Indeed he's about the only guy I've seen working in this style.
Anyway, I was wandering around his site and I discovered that there's actually a companion piece to The Forgotten Man. It's called The Empowered Man. And it looks like this:
This was the American election.
I did some Googling, it looks like his name is *Jon* McNaughton, not Patrick.
Thanks for the heads up. I really like his work. Nice to see a contemporary artist who A) like America, and B) is doing actual art instead of just paint and shit thrown onto a canvass.

The truth is that most people in this country don't understand how it works and more importantly, why it works.
To those saying that it still gives the majority a larger voice, I have another perspective because you're looking at it upside down. What it does is that it ensures that the majority doesn't have too much power. For example, if the popular vote was so relevant, I could anything but guarantee that states like New Hampshire would not get a say. You may as well not consider its citizens Americans at that point.
I think when you're at the point that half of the nation is voting for a known psychopathic crook "because muh benefits and muh vagina" then your form of voting is the less relevant issue at play.
Our real hope has to be that a Trump Presidency takes the actions necessary to reduce that voting demographic to the point of it being far less relevant.
It's funny because for 80% of that video I wasn't sure if it was partisan. I was thinking, yeah, he's great at driving a point home...maybe not great at explaining, but great at making his point and sticking to issues.
Then they make the doomsday claim as if a good salesman is a bad thing.

I find it shocking just how mind numbingly stupid most of these university liberals are. I had more deductive logic by the end of primary school, than they have at the end of a bachelors.
The Electoral College should go. It's too easy to argue that it's unfair. But that's probably not feasible and not the best place to spend political capital. I'd rather see the primary system overhauled and move to a shorter campaign and/or longer terms. Also a tough sell.
The reason why we have it is because the Founding Fathers did not trust the majority of Americans (the voting public) to make the right decisions. Also they did not want an exact "Tyranny of the Majority". We only have a somewhat small "Tyranny of the Majority" impact in our system, due to it being a "Winner Takes All" style of Representative Democracy. (In plain English, that means we do not have a Parliament with Proportional Style voting). As a result, we get Duverger's Law, which means there will always be 2 parties and any 3rd party is temporary or becomes party number 1 or 2 permanently.
Back then, the Founding Fathers realized the average man could not read, and was not informed enough to be fully trusted with deciding who should lead the country.
A popular vote system is much more closer to "Direct Democracy". Which has alot of downsides, and is much more closer to a true "Tyranny of the Majority". Things like Civil Rights would have been harder to achieve in a sense as well as gay rights. Another issue is that California would tend to push their values indirectly upon every state in the country. One could even argue that without the Electoral College , states rights are alot weaker.
At any rate it would require an Amendment to undo it and to go to a straight popular vote system. I don't think we could get close to a 2/3 vote in both Houses, and a 3/4 vote from every state (38 states minimum) to change it just because a few states did not get the president they wanted. If it did not happen for Al Gore, it's not going to happen now.
They will get tired eventually and stop. The Victim Olympics are in town and it will probably last a couple weeks or so.
If anything, the MSM is probably the most at fault here. They kept pushing dishonest polls the entire election and gave people the false idea she was winning. There would be no shock if all of them were using good polls like the USC\LA Times one or made their own panels on Rand style. Now we have tons of people that are caught completely off guard and feel ripped off for no good reason at all. The MSM should be punished for this somehow, but I cannot think of a way to do that.
Actually literacy in America at the time was the highest in the world, close to everyone could read.
I talked about the Electoral College with a friend I met through a Cernovich meetup a few week ago. Basically, if states did a more proportional system, the Democrats would be much more hard-pressed. Look at the breakdown of the election, even in New York the counties were overwhelmingly red. 2016 was a red sea. A pure popular vote would basically let the urban areas dictate the rest of the country and that's what the Founders were most afraid of - one section getting too much power over the others.
Fuck this. I'm seriously considering ending my life of exile in Asia and coming back to take care of my homeland. That video made my blood boil in a way I didn't think possible.
So you want California and the east coast telling people across the entire country what to do? Just what we need...those morons destroying property out in Oakland to decide how our country is run.
Might as well get rid of States and we can just be one big huge country.
It's a funny thing, most outgoing leaders make their most memorable and impressive speeches once the die is cast and they are on their way out. Obama's speech here is very good. Gracious, magnanimous, perfectly pitched whether you agree with his politics or not - and fundamentally grown up, dignified and presidential. There've been a lot of tremendously negative things to come out of his presidency, undoubtedly, but in a very real sense he is still a great credit to America. I am looking forward to Trump taking over, and to a change in direction, as much as everyone else. But, now that we've won, I think it is good to reflect and appreciate Obama's gravitas. His politics may be unpleasant to us, but as an American there is a great deal to admire about him.
And Hillary had the gall to sign a copy for a supporter
I'm pretty sure Trump will end up buying it and putting it on the white house near obamas painting.
He will surely have a laugh every time he passes by
That's a great idea. Out of curiosity, I checked ebay and they are asking for $500 for a copy of newsweek with that cover.
This is how the future voted. This is what people 18-25 said in casting their votes. We must keep this flame alight and nurture this vision.
I have seen this somewhere before...... oh yes, after Brexit!
PS: for extra lulz, notice the first reply.
"nah. not the white future. they voted 48% for trump."
I couldn't make this shit up if my life defended on it.
Yeah - we get it. The new generation has the newest indoctrination update. They come fresh off the intellectual gulags. But there is a caveat - this changes over time as some of the dumb fucks get their wits together and realize that there are indeed just 2 genders. Other snowflakes get married and submit to a man who puts her straight. And others just give up as they find out that life is no gender class.
Still - this does not bode well for the future. Back when the Congressional Reece commission on foundations found out that the globalist foundations had a plan to merge the communist system with the US republic in the future they could not believe their ears. That was in the 1950s when they found out about it! And now it has come to that - essentially you get a system where the majority of the brainwashed youth would readily accept full marxism so long as they get their Iphones, Ipads and Netflix. A corporate 2-choice system of uniform marxism and the youth is happy - no more dissent, no more choice, only the peace of one choice, one vote, one party.
Fuck this. I'm seriously considering ending my life of exile in Asia and coming back to take care of my homeland. That video made my blood boil in a way I didn't think possible.
This is why every man needs to start carrying a handgun. He would be justified to shoot them in practically every carry permitted state. Trash like this rarely jumps people like this in Texas because they have no idea who has a gun around here. Even with all my martial arts background, I am not fighting 2+ dudes for any reason whatsoever. You have no idea those standing around will jump in if you got the upper hand on those 2 or not, and you can get blindsided.
I wouldn't even brandish to scare them, I would shoot. It would teach many more a valuable lesson to leave other people alone.
Too bad Trump cannot force these gun free zone states and cities to allow conceal carry. A federal conceal carry sounds impossible or impractical for a myriad of reasons.
The problem of eliminating the electoral college is it gives total control of the election to democrats that control big populated cities, Manhattan voted half million for Clinton vs 58 thousands for Trump.
And considering how many women move from rural areas into big cities for college, illegals live in big cities when they are in the country, singles moms overwhelming live in big cities, then you would have total control of the election by just having cities like Los Angeles and Manhattan, Chicago.

The punishment will come when most of them go financially bankrupt.

It's one of those sounds good on paper but never works out in practice.
What happens is you end up with an assembly line of people coming in and learning the job. Once they get experienced, they get replaced.
This results in political parties becoming stronger relative to elected officials. It also means that to get a new job you have to kiss the party's ass and do whatever is on the party platform when you transition in/out of your current position.
I think the Presidential Term Limit cap needs to be increased from 2 terms to 4. It's a soft enough cap to where I don't think too many candidates are going to be forced out on term limits.
