I been reading up more on Jeff Sessions since he's a guy that's in Trump's inner circle and someone who Trump seems to take heed in a lot when it comes to making policy decisions, especially on foreign affairs. Session and his staff (particularly Stephen Miller) have been instrumental in crafting Trump's nativist, nationalist policies. If we are now starting the hear the term "nationalist" and "globalist" pop up more in mainstream media a good part of the credit needs to be given to Sessions and Miller.

Trump listened to his advisors and went against his gut and he's still unhappy and sulking about it.

But that's OK -- if Pence shores up the party base, fundraises well, and continues to be a steady and solid presence, Trump will accept him and slowly come to like him over time.

From all the reporting, his gut instinct was to go with Christie which would have been an unmitigated disaster. Manafort and the kids prevailed, thank God.

Trump can be very childlike in a loveable way. If he doesn't get to do what he wants he can stay in a bad mood for a while. But he gets over it.

I think he picked him reluctantly only because Manafort told him to.
Not to revive the discussion about whether Pence was the right choice in terms of policy or this or that. I don't think it was a good choice simply because Trump doesn't like him. You need at least some good chemistry to stay in a good mood when you're campaigning together. I don't see this happening with the two. Additionally, I don't like him. Not only for the things he said about TPP and Trump's policy proposals. Rather because I didn't know much about him when I watched his Hannity interview but just seeing and hearing him invoked a feeling of uneasiness and even outright aversion in me. I was surprised to see him praised by many on and outside the forum. Something about him makes him seem untrustworthy and "false" to me. Like an uncle that could rape his niece and then go talk about importance of family at the dinner table. I'm usually against using emotions as rationale but I like to think of myself as being good at "reading people" and these kinds of reactions in me have usually proven to have been justified after a while. I wouldn't have liked Newt either but still a little more than him. Christie is corrupt but I actually like the guy - partly because he's very predictable and somewhat direct. - Seems like my impressions about who is likeable and who is not align with Trump, at least in these cases.
Newt and Christie would have been a bad pick in terms of public perception though, so I was hoping the rumors about the three being options were just distraction to get the media talking and the people on the edge to then pick someone entirely different who's actually a good man but no one expected. I guess you can't find such a guy in important positions of American politics, so Trump probably bit the bullet and chose Pence. We'll see if it was the right choice.

Cox emphasized that Bikers for Trump weren’t looking for trouble at the convention. “Veterans are the backbone of the biker community,” Cox continued. “We are patriots and unlike Black Lives Matter and the other leftist idiots, we love our cops. You won’t find one biker in Cleveland jumping on cars, lighting fires, or doing any of the other stupid things we’ve gotten used to seeing on TV the last few months.”

“Big” Jim Williams of Riders USA held a “Bikers for Trump” sign up at a rally in Arizona on July 10th, 2015 and the photo went viral. “I went to that first Trump rally with my Bikers for Trump sign and the next day the picture was all over the internet,” Big Jim told Breitbart News. “Donald Trump will say the things that need to be said and do the things that most politicians are too afraid to do.”

Big Jim will be making the long ride from Phoenix to Cleveland to be in Cleveland during the convention and he sent a letter to his fellow bikers telling them why they should join him. In a copy of the letter provided to Breitbart News he says:

The fact of the matter is we have become a nation of slaves… Now more than ever we need to come together as a nation and stand against tyranny and corruption. We need to stand against paid thugs and show them that things are done differently in America. None of the bikers Breitbart News spoke with wanted to say how many would attend. “The city of Cleveland gave us a hard time with our permits and so we haven’t really counted how many people are coming,” Cox said. “It’s probably better because I want to work with all the other people who are drawn to be there. Here is the background. On the last night of the DNC, there was a brief speech given by a man named Khizr Khan, who spoke with his wife standing beside him:





In brief, this is a Muslim American family whose son was a US Army captain. He was killed in action in Iraq in 2004 while protecting his unit and posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. His father spoke for about 7 minutes and denounced Trump's proposal for a ban on Muslim immigration to the US. Among other things, he took out a copy of the US Constitution and theatrically asked if Trump had ever read it, and he also addressed Trump and asked, "what and who have you sacrificed"? This speech was widely hailed as "electrifying" and "the most emotional moment of the convention".

On ABC's "This Week" (set to air tomorrow, but ABC released a segment today to get the feeding frenzy going and cause maximum damage to Trump), Trump was asked to address Khan's remarks. This was a trap set for him to bait him into saying something inadvisable, and they got what they wanted. First, Trump wondered why the wife said nothing -- perhaps she wasn't allowed to, being a Muslim (but they have an interview given jointly by the couple in which the wife does speak and then breaks into sobs). Worse, when asked the question "what sacrifices have you made", he very Trumpishly spoke of how he made "a lot of sacrifices", such as working very hard and creating jobs for thousands of people.

Unsurprisingly, #TrumpSacrifices is now trending on Twitter. SJW scum who could not possibly give a shit about this man who was killed, or anyone else, are pretending to be shocked by Trump's "callousness" and "narcissism", and mocking him for daring to speak as if he's made "sacrifices" in any way comparable to parents losing a child in a war. I honor the great sacrifice made by the Khan family, and their son's service to our country. I have worked all my life to build a business and raise a family, and I cannot imagine what it would be like to have a child taken from me at such a young age. No sacrifice I might have made could possibly compare to this, and I apologize that my words seemed to imply otherwise.

I want to say something about Mr. Khan's speech. Their son was a patriotic Muslim American, and there are so many others who live here and love their country. I know this and I honor their patriotism and their love of country. We are lucky to have them here.

But we cannot ignore the savagery of radical Islamic terrorism. Seemingly every day there is a new attack, more barbaric than the previous one. In Nice, France, a savage Islamic terrorist rammed his truck into a crowd including many children, killing scores and scores. Not so long ago, an Islamic terrorist slaughtered young LGBT Americans in Orlando, killing almost 50. Just this week Islamic terrorists burst into a church in France and beheaded an 85 year old priest. All these savages swore allegiance to ISIS.

We cannot just ignore this problem and pretend it's not there. The first and foremost responsibility of a country is to protect its citizens. For people who want to come into this country from parts of the world that have been compromised by this savage ideology, we have to figure out a way to vet them with great thoroughness, to make sure they are not coming here to harm us. I stand by my proposal that until we figure out how to do that, we cannot take the chance of admitting people here. Just one terrorist can slaughter scores of innocent people. Someone has to stand up for them.

For all the good Muslims who live here in America, and those who are abroad, you have to help us eradicate this scourge of radical Islamic terrorism. You must fight it in your own communities, you must report people who engage in it to the proper authorities. You cannot tolerate this murderous ideology in your midst. For all the good Muslims who live here in America, and those who are abroad, you have to help us eradicate this scourge of radical Islamic terrorism. You must fight it in your own communities, you must report people who engage in it to the proper authorities. You cannot tolerate this murderous ideology in your midst. We are going to defeat it and you can help us. I want your help.

I agree, this situation could have been handled better. The way you mentioned in bold would have been nice because it differentiates between Muslims like this man's son, and Muslims like ISIS, although I think saying anything more about it at this point may be seen as disingenuous backpeddling.

Alternatively it would have been nice if he had mentioned that it was Hillary Clinton who supported the war in which this man's son died, not to mention destabilizing Libya and Syria. Because frankly, this Khan guy is a damn sellout for supporting Clinton. Of course, Trump can't say it exactly like that, but I would have loved it if he had said something along those lines that got people wondering: "Yeah, why is he supporting the candidate who helped get his son killed?". That would have completely turned the situation on its head.
