That is a terrific post. Unfortunately, it seems that even after debating the facts with many of my liberal friends... it just goes right over them. They don't absorb any of it! I've had maybe one or two say, "yeah, I guess you're right", out of many. At least this has been my experience with the younger "college crowd" that liberalism especially targets.

And absolutely agreed, I maintain very close friendships with my fellow liberal friends.. we have fun debating lots of different issues but it seems that a vast majority of them, talking about the younger crowd here, are just not educated on the facts which is a frustrating thing.

This interview with Sen. Jeff Sessions from this morning is a master class in how you defend your cause. Always stay on message but in an unforced, natural, and gracious way; never concede anything; and make deadly, coherent and persuasive arguments couched in a mild, benign, and reassuring demeanor.

This is the man who should be Trump's VP running mate -- I really hope Trump has the insight and confidence to choose him. He's very lucky to have someone like that on his side. My only problem with Sessions was his quite strong Alabama accent but I now feel that it wears well over time and adds to his charm.

I like Sen. Sessions. I think he is conservative enough to moderate Trump's brazenness and well liked enough to bring in more of the votes from the sidelines. But what he is talking about is a little troubling, the worst thing for the country generally and the 2A specifically would be another secret court (just like FISA is a disaster for the 4A). Trusting a govt court to not simply rubber stamp additions to the list would be disingenuous at best and suicidal at worst. Something like that may not be abused with Trump in the WH, but what about Hillary? As no one has put out a concrete plan to how it will all work as of yet I remain extremely suspicious.

My only concern with Sessions as VP is we would lose his seniority and power to push Trump Pro America First legislation through the US Senate.

Come on man, we are both members of this forum for quite a while now and often active in the same tinfoil hat threads. To insinuate that I don't know what NWO stands for or what's supposed to go on behind the scenes is, frankly, preposterous.
What I called bullshit on was the quoted statement by Putin directed towards Trump.
When did he say this? Where did he say this?
What is true is the second half of the article you linked.
At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 16' a few days ago Putin did indeed say a few words about Trump, but not even remotely anything about some sinister plans of the powers that be to eliminate him.
The article you linked is the only source on the entire internet that claims Putin said something like that.
That's why I asked for clarification.

Funny you mention accents: look at all of the presidents that we have had in the past hundred years, and how many of them had southern accents: Bill Clinton, George Bush, Jimmy Carter, LBJ, Ike.. If anything it helps greatly to have a southern accent in a general election in the USA.

I cringe when I hear Hillary try to fake an accent for whatever location she is visiting, it is horrendous

And yes, Sessions would make a great VP for Trump.

Jeff Sessions is the best possible VP choice for Trump, both for governing should he win, and for giving him the best chance to get elected.

For governing, Sessions is a proven steady hand who will guide policy and implement the details of Trump's agenda in Congress. He is intelligent and capable and will attend to all the necessary details in a way that Trump himself is not going to do. He is extremely influential and well-liked in the Senate, including by the Democrats, and as a VP he will be able to hammer out the needed legislative compromises. And he has a better understanding of Trump's policy agenda than anyone, including Trump himself -- Sessions was closely involved in crafting Trump's immigration policy, has been his main national security adviser, and has held similar positions on trade and the economy for a long time. In addition, he has no personal ambition and no desire to be president, so he will put his talents entirely in the service of furthering Trump's goals.

For winning the election, Sessions has the most important qualities needed in a Trump running mate: reassuring and competent. Voters are worried that Trump is risky and unpredictable, they don't know if they can trust him to wield power responsibly. They fear that he will be erratic. Sessions is the opposite of erratic, he is steady, civil, and mild-mannered. His temperament provides a pleasing contrast to Trump, but at the same time he is 100% on board with the agenda and is able to argue for it with a steely resolve and without ever going off message or conceding any points. And he has obviously very good personal chemistry with Trump, despite -- and maybe even because of -- their differences in background and temperament. They complement each other exceptionally well.

This is all the more true since the other two main choices -- Newt Gingrich and Chris Christie -- are very flawed both for governing and electoral purposes. Newt is smart and can be eloquent, but he is unreliable, prone to go off message, not a good manager, and not at all reassuring. Christie rubs many people the wrong way, is obviously nakedly ambitious and interested in furthering his own career above all, and forms a combustible New York / New Jersey combo with Trump in terms of temperament. Both Gingrich and especially Christie also bring with them a real whiff of corruption and political opportunism and this is something that Trump does not need. Sessions has none of that.

Really, the only argument against Sessions is that he is very Southern -- his accent especially -- and this can have limited appeal outside that region. But after observing him over time, I feel that he wears his accent and manner very gracefully and well and will grow on voters as they listen to him and get to know him more. He is the obvious best choice.

Chris Christie would be a disaster. The guy has a good record but no pull and no real likeability. Newt is too much of an insider - I don't trust him. Sessions is the only feasible choice IMO.

Quote:Clinton, Democrats Dominate 2016 Battleground Airwaves
by MARK MURRAY

Every single 2016 presidential TV ad currently airing in a battleground state is either from Hillary Clinton's campaign or the Democratic outside groups supporting her.

The opposition, by contrast, hasn't spent a dime in these same battlegrounds - whether it's Donald Trump's campaign or Republican-leaning Super PACs.

So far in June, Clinton and the outside groups backing her have spent a total of $23.3 million on ads in the battleground states of Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia, according to ad-spending data from SMG Delta.

Republicans have spent $0 in these same eight states.

That's a 100 percent-to-0 percent advantage for Clinton and the Democrats in these battlegrounds.

By comparison, in June of 2012, President Barack Obama and the outside groups supporting him had spent $45 million in ads in 11 battleground states, while Mitt Romney and his allies - like Crossroads GPS and Americans for Prosperity - spent $38 million.

That was a 54 percent-to-46 percent edge for Democrats back then.

As for "Trump knows what he is doing". I'd say to some extent he does, in some areas, he really doesn't as this is a totally new venture for him. Sure he may win the twitter wars, but how many Americans actually follow twitter? Like 5%? He will actually have to start spending on advertising on TV and radio.

This is indeed more worrisome.

I think Trump tends to believe that he can run an entirely different kind of campaign by combining his social proof, social media, and free media he gets by his domination of space, and that's all very good. It worked brilliantly in the primaries.

But the problem is that he's no longer facing a divided field. He can't just deny the existence of Hillary Clinton like he did with everyone in the primaries because everyone knows who she is and she's only a single person, and with social and free media you can't target and hone your message.

Trump has the media apparatus squarely against him, and his twitter and other social media as you say, just aren't targeted enough. He's going to need to run targeted ads for those regions. Maybe the exact amount of spending dollars doesn't matter as much this time due to Trump's brand and natural force of personality, but you can't just let your opponent run away with ads while you can't respond in a targeted enough way.

Huntsman and Rand Paul are great options as well, IMO. They are both very nuanced in their views and have the added benefit of being much younger than Trump. Huntsman and Romney also have a Mormon rivalry going on, so picking him would entail a much needed bitch slap to the Never Trump movement. I'm not sure if the Randlet has gotten over getting wrecked by Trump earlier on in the primaries; his ideological purity is also a roadblock. However, a lot of the more freely-thinking Democrats are drawn in by his stances on nation building, slight cuts to military spending, NSA spying, and the downtrodden minority communities.

Sessions is great on a lot of policy issues and for the other reasons LOZ mentioned, but he doesn't have quite the name recognition, exoticism, and celebrity factor that others could offer Trump.

Trump doesn't need Name Recognition, Exoticism or a Celebrity factor from his running mate; the running mate should ideally be someone that helps him get laws passed and congressional deadlock broken i.e. an experienced statesman like sessions. The only positive that Trump should be looking for from a running mate (in terms of helping him win the election) is a calm presence who will assuage the general public's fear of the inconsistency of Trump.

A VP doesn't really help laws get passed, Sessions could do a better job of that if he stayed in the Senate.

I doubt Trump would have any trouble repealing Obamacare or getting a wall built UNLESS the democrats win big in the Senate elections, which could easily happen because the Senate refused to even consider Obama's supreme court nomination.

I don't think Trump will use ads in the General, but he will find some way of drawing people's attention. That's what an ad is designed to do, after all. If Trump can create some other kind of program or entertainment method for attracting people, he can get his message out in a novel way that will win more voters.

But maybe he doesn't have a master plan, and will go with traditional ads. I see Trump as an innovator, and he hasn't used TV ads at all this campaign, so I think he's got something else in mind.

Notice how he's run this campaign so far like his own TV series. Like another season of the apprentice. And he prides himself on being unpredictable.
