Should be a good fight. I won't miss this one.

Can't wait for this one. I'd obviously love Brook to do it, but it would be an almighty upset which is highly, highly unlikely.

Waiting for Golovkin Brook to start.

It will probably start three hours from now or at least a little later. They are being really difficult with me as far as placing bets for this one. I still have a ton of cash that I want to bet before the fight gets started. To the guys who are so sure that Brook takes this one, what is your theory? Short of Brook knocking him out, which is pretty unlikely, I don't see it. Brook is low volume and he isn't extremely difficult to hit like Mayweather or Andre Ward. I see three types of guys who could beat Golovkin, all of whom Golovkin may still beat. The first is a defensive whiz like Mayweather or Ward, the second is a guy throwing a thousand plus punches a fight. Now that Martinez is retired, those types are pretty much extinct over 147 pounds. The third is a huge puncher like Golovkin, Tyson, or Kovalev. I don't see how a guy who won a somewhat controversial decision against Shawn Porter, while getting hit a fair amount, not hurting Porter, and not throwing many punches has a good chance here.

Ye, Brook is a solid world level fighter at 147. GGG is legitimately one of the great middleweights of the past few decades, perhaps longer. He really is extraordinary. There are some unknowns - is Brook really more of a natural middleweight who kills himself to get to 147? Just how good is his chin? Can he show GGG something he hasn't seen before?

My answers would be (respectively): - It won't matter. It won't matter. No, it won't matter. Brook may be good enough to make GGG work for a few rounds. If he has a big night, he may make GGG work past the middle rounds. But noone who gets hit as much as Brook can beat a guy who is as devastating and as accurate as GGG. As Merenguero said, there are a few types of guy that beat GGG - Brook is not any of those types. You either have to take GGG off his game by overwhelming him with volume, or you have to be so damn slick that you don't eat more than a couple of big punches across 12 rounds, and knick it on points. Ward could beat GGG. Kovalev has a puncher's chance, but I think he is significantly less skilled than GGG - I would bet on GGG to beat him if they fought tonight, despite the weight difference (in part because the odds would be better).

I'm excited about Connor Benn, who had his 4th pro fight this evening. He is improving massively each time he fights. His dad might be my favourite fighter of all time. Nigel Benn was everything a fighter should be. I really loved him, and still love watching his fights. He had a real fighter's pride and menace. I hope his son does something similar, I'd love to have something like that in my own prime. If he starts to show those signs, I'll be going along to fights to watch him.

If Golovkin really is sick, then he seriously needs to address whatever is making him sick before all of these fights. If the rumors are true, this is ay least the third time in the last three years that he has gotten sick right before the fight. I tell people all the time to drink Arizona Green Tea Zero and that they might never get sick. It has no sugar or calories and is loaded with Vitamin C, ginseng, and antioxidants. When I tell people that, they either ignore me or buy some garbage like Snappel that is loaded with sugar. What are the chances that Gennady's handlers ever once told him to drink what I drink. I say zero. Also, in the pictures taken after the weigh in yesterday, he looked perfectly fine.
AboveAverageJoe 路 2016-09-10 16:04:00 路 #1133
Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar is the never get sick elixir. Part of it could be Golovkin fights five times a year and travels for every fight. That is a lot of stress on the immune system. A sick GGG still beats a healthy Brook.

Was a good fight until the last round. I'm not sure I agree with the towel throw, but he was not protecting himself intelligently.

Like I said Triple G slaps Kelly Brook around. Book it!

Except for maybe Mayweather and Alvarez, Brook would have beaten every guy at 160 or below tonight. I made pretty good money off it. What do you guys think about Chocolatito tonight? I have the chance to bet on it.

I would like to see a Canelo vs GGG fight. That will be next year at least.
AboveAverageJoe 路 2016-09-10 17:43:00 路 #1138
Apparently Brooks' corner bet on him not getting pass the 5th round.
Worst thrown fight I have seen in a while.
KB was no where near to being in trouble, in fact I had it 2 to 2.
Another black eye on pro boxing.
Wish I would have know to bid on GGG by KO in the 5th.
Cant imagine the odds.

I agree that it was a bad stoppage, but Brook was cut over one or both eyes and thinks would have only gotten worse for him later on in the fight.

Not how I saw it but I respect your boxing and gamimg acumen, so I am not being disrespectful to you.
That was BS.
I have watched and boxed for forty years. That was a fix.
His corner got up on the apron with the towel way too fast and he was not in trouble. The betting line had major movements in the last 24 hours since the weigh in and it was a very competitive fight. Too much money to be made in the International Gaming system compared to the small purses of both fighters. Kell Brook and his team can retire tomorrow.

Hard to disagree. I wrote this about pro boxing in my datasheet for a good reason.

Quote: 8) Extremely corrupt professional industry. Makes government look like angels.

Some of the stories I have heard from other boxing trainers in private conversations would stun some of you, except Joe probably.

Interesting. I didn't think it was an unreasonable stoppage. Brook had been pawing at his eye for a while, and was repeatedly standing there with his arms down taking big punches as a jumped up 147lb fighter. His coach, who has known him since he was 9, thought the fighter was going to get badly hurt. To me it looked like that fight would be over before the end of the round. I would have liked to see a better finish, but don't personally think there was anything sinister in it.
Chowder Head 路 2016-09-10 18:23:00 路 #1143
I agree with AAJ -- way too quick w/the stoppage. I guess they were protecting their investment.
I haven't seen Chocolatito fight -- I'm looking forward to it. But UFC 203 is on tonight as well.

Well here is the thing. If you ever fought either amatuer or pro, the only thing that blocks vision is typically a very swollen shut eye (which wasn't the case) or blood constantly dripping into your eye (Which wasn't the case either). All Brook had was a small bruise/contusion on both the upper and bottom of the eye. The swelling was almost nothing. He did not have a large mouse on either side. His nose was bloody but that was all I could see blood wise.

The fact that he could track the interviewer with both his eyes while talking looked pretty suspicious to me and he qualified his eye problems by talking about it very quickly. In Round 2 his eye was not really all that bad looking.

When GGG went into that flurry and Kell was dropping his hands and vocalizing at him, I was like WTF are you doing that for?! He isn't Floyd!

Anyway, I'm not really buying that whole eye was not able to see thing. He did not sound delirious in the post fight interview either.

No matter how you look at it, it was a strange fight. GGG was not the usual GGG we normally see. He looked slow like Hopkins said. He also was not accurate with punches either, like he normally is.

The only other thing I can think of, is if he could not defend well on that side because of non-visual damage to his eye we cannot see. I don't think I will rewatch the fight again to try and figure that out though and count the failed attempts.

Anyone watch Glory Kickboxing 33 last night on ESPN? Man there were some good fights, the featherweight tournament was great, there were some KILLER knockouts!

This dude Matt Embree wrecked some shit!

Chocaolatito is safe money IMO.

I put what for me is a nominal amount on both Chocalatito and the over rounds at 9 1/2. If I lose both bets, it won't hurt me really at all. Watch that one be my first career loss, the small bet on the fight I didn't really research. While I was placing my final bet on Golovkin, some bitch ass faggot tried to start a fight with me for no reason at all. Out of shape loser, I'm guessing inland empire from the way he talked/looked. I actually think he might have seen my bankroll and wanted me to beat him up so he could cash in. I didn't react in any way. I never do. Security kicked him out before I finished placing my bet and I was able to place it.

I watched the post-fight interview too, his eye is functioning just fine.

Looks extremely suspicious. I had an eye injury two years where my vision was blurred in one eye but I could open it like Brook. The suspicious thing to me is that he doesn't attempt to close his eye the whole time. He puts his hand on his eye but doesn't even squinch his eyelids. I also remember being able to see better overall when I closed my blurry eye over when I kept both eyes open.

Here's another thing:

Here is the ESPN fight summary, this is the first paragraph...

http://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/id/17...rows-towel

"Gennady Golovkin, the much heavier puncher, punished Kell Brook for nearly five rounds before unloading a brutal onslaught of blows against the game welterweight titleholder. That sent Brook's trainer, Dominic Ingle, onto the ring apron to throw in the towel in the fifth round Saturday night at the sold-out O2 Arena."

Is that really an accurate description of what happened?
Merenguero 路 2016-09-10 21:48:00 路 #1149
^^^
I thought Brook won the second round pretty easily. I had Golovkin winning every other round, but they were all competitive. Golovkin took some hard shots from Brook, but took them very well. Brook was really on his way out, whether he knew ut or not, at the time of the stoppage.
Merenguero 路 2016-09-11 00:04:00 路 #1150
Needless to say, I had a pretty good day/night at the sportsbooks today. They're completely screwing me with the odds on next week's Alvarez fight. Odds are really one-sided and the only prop anywhere is over/under 7 1/2 rounds, which I won't touch with a ten foot pole. I'm going to wait until Friday to see if things change and if they don't, I'll probably place a reAlvarezally big straight bet on Alvarez, just to make something.
