I just heard a Blade Runner sequel is in the works, "Blade Runner 2049". I have mixed feelings about this one. On one hand, Blade Runner is one of my top 5 favorites of all time and I feel like a sequel can only fuck up the legacy; and it stars the effeminate Ryan Gosling. On the other hand, Denis Villenueve, who did Sicario (which was outstanding), is in the director's chair for this one and I feel like he's one of the few contemporary directors who has a shot at giving Blade Runner its due.

Will probably give in and actually see this one in theaters when it comes out this October.

Rewatched the Original Conan movie. What a masterpiece!
The camera angles and pans, the body language of the characters,the sets,costumes,music and the by comparison to our current standards ,liitle dialog.

I remember back in 2011 how everyone was praising the new conan movie with the Game of thrones guy (now the new movie aquaman) as more faithful to the original books and how it would be so much better than the old one and other ad hominem attacks against Arnold... only to tank horribly!

Definitely A movie I love coming back to!

"Books" is stretching it. The original Conan was pulp fiction in magazine form in the 1930s.



It's a bunch of entertaining short stories.

The nerds probably refer to the comic books.

I don't know if that's why?

Conan in the short stories is black haired - blue eyed, a Cimmerian, part of a fictional people called Hyborians who invade southward in successions attacking old kingdoms with great similarity to historical mediteranean, semittic and african civilizations. Jason Momoa would be of one of those southern kingdoms in the original works, so it is definitely not closer to the original, but I can see how it might fit the comic books (which I haven't read).

I think Milius did an excellent job.

Saw Scarlet in the animu-ahem! Ghost in the shell live action with the aging starlet role playing the fantasies of all her peers of being inside an unaging artificial body.

Props for severely downplaying the grrrr powah in this movie.
Wondering if it had to do with the Japanese license holders having more control over the adaptation ,or lessons from Rogue one or both?
Interesting take on using western looking people as they look more like the idealized characters drawn in the Japanese animated and comics style Though the way they do try to sort of explain why such characters would be acting in a Japan based story and setting kind of falls flat

It also reminded me of how the watchmen movie despite attempting to replicate "panel by panel" the comic ended up diluting the essence of the original in key parts that just kill the subtleties of the plot and characters (the comedian specially).
In this movie there are many shots that are taken from the two animated movies while the dialogs and outcomes have been modified and some plot holes left hanging (like the geisha bots from the second movie which have trapped children's "ghosts and where the major is not a proper character per se)
In the original animated movie, the chick ends up fusing with the ominous "Villain" character who is actually an AI and together they sort of become a fused network jumping "life form".
Here the villain has been personified into an emo master hacker sith emo guy who takes a romantic interest in the lady, and who surprise! was also her boyfriend before they became artificials. (which doesn't really combine well with the idea that he was a previous older model,or apparently the learning curve of properly cybertizing brains was incredibly short and improved exponentially after each failed experiment which were probably 5 or 6 people) and constantly asks her like a good beta to tie the knot and upload themselves together but she says no because Bato is a total alpha who drinks beer and has dogs and she still hasn't got to bang him.

I might add that I Never really got to see the old series,and the recent ones were rather boring to me but I'm open to
The original two animated movies -specially the second one- struck me a bit as "I THE DIRECTOR HAVE READ WESTERN PHILOSOPHY BOOKS AND I MAKE ANIMU AS VEHICLE TO PARROT ALL I HAVE READ" (though I will admit I the live action movies directed by the guy of the second animated movie) but they did have a soul (or ghost?) to them which brings me to revisit them every now and then while this movie just felt like -bad punk warning- a shell.

Short version: the movie ended up being Robocop with tits to me.

The Confirmation with Clive Owen is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Unfortunately, super-cuck Patton Oswalt also has a minor role in it, but he doesn't ruin it. Excellent watch.

I ve only read the remastered version of the first book but I seem to recall the gunslinger was basically an expy of Clint Eastwood's rugged desperado characters?

Redboxed this one over the weekend. Loved the depiction of bumfuck west Texas, but the shallowness of both brothers had me hoping early in the movie that one of those concealed carry cowboys would double tap them both during a job. My expectations were admittedly high though, since I'd heard this movie compared to No Country for Old Men. But Jeff Daniels, if Oscars were worth a shit, would have won best supporting actor for his role. His character reminded me of some of the old timers, now dead, I used to know here out west.

Watched this last night. One of the best films I've seen in a very long time. I like it when the ending of films isn't predictable, don't follow the usual pattern of cops/good guy wins. In this film, the lines are blurred on the good vs bad front.

The film reminded me of my travels through the US by train and just how vast and empty a lot of the country is.

My favourite scene in the film is where one of the brothers stops the truck, calmly pulls out a machine gun (ar15?) and starts shooting at a bunch of guys who are chasing them.

Highly recommended film.

The fact that Dark Tower is so close to being released and it hasnt got any advertising tells me even Hollywood knows it will suck. Oh, and Idris Elba will be the main charactor. Solid actor, but this movie was likely ruined well before cast selection. Word is they arent sticking to the book storyline at all, but doing an "alternative path" inspired by the series. They should have just done a true to story series and released straight to netflix, people would gobble that up.

Even though I read only first book in the series, whole concept of Dark Tower universe seems intriguing to me, as it has for a plot devices pretty much everything that I am interested into. I am definitely going to watch movie, but at the same time I know that its possibly going to suck.
Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba are solid actors and it would be shame to see this movie as a stain on their careers.

Watched "The Accountant" a couple days ago. Definitely one of the most entertaining and enjoyable movies I've watched in the past 10 years. Fast-paced, intelligent, never boring, good action parts, and a big recommendation for everybody who is a little on the asperger spectrum.

Just came back from watching Guardians of the Galaxy 2 on the cinema.
A curious experience,as I went to watch the undubbed version on the cheap day, and since we are talking about Spain, I was the ONLY person in the room.
Got me kind of meditative actually...!


Anyhos, quick review:

-Kurt fucking Russel
-Shit ton of easter eggs (which reminded me what a horrible comic nerd I used to be) both for comic geeks and/or 80's nostalgia enthusiasts

The movie was quite a fun experience to watch, did see some red flag ideological stuff but I think at this point to pin point it is a waste of time,and as is the case with fringe titles of mainstream comics,the writers were given a lot more space to maneuver the script which leads me to say how disappointing it was at the end when it obviously needed to wrap up and forcefully established the good and bad guys to get on with the finale-then again the movie isn't meant to be deep but it does feel like wasted development potential.

The dad is cool. Other than that, one of the most preposterous films I've ever seen.

Some friends and I came up with this wild theory that Hollywood is now pushing a mentall illness/disability are better than normal people narrative. It was a funny movie and I guess people with debilitating mental illness can always hope to be serial killing money launders now.

I read time ago in a forum someone involved in the industry wrote that independents movies tend to be watched mostly by upper class people, and many times the 1% and up because a very common theme in independents movies is mental illness as the focus of the narrative, and because of upper class people tend to have some sort of mental illness it relate able to them since they can't relate to movies about everyday people.

I think many of those doing independents movies with mental illness as the focus of the narrative are now wiring and behind the scene working in big movies.
