They do completely different things.
I use the big mouth juicer for only carrots, beets, and celery stalks.
The vitamix for kale, parsley, spinach, bokchoy, and anything else to sweeten things up.
I've had the vitamix for a few years and it can take anything I throw at it.
The big mouth juicer I've had for six months and is starting to fall apart. After I do a few pounds of carrots it starts to make weird noises and clog up, and I have to rinse it to continue. It also doesn't completely pull out the pulp like a higher quality juicer does. But at 50 bucks it's a decent value.
BallsDeep:
Do you believe that the Hamilton Big Mouth is doing something different with the carrots, beets and celery, as compared with attempting those same types of items in the Vitamix?
I have blended carrots and celery in the Vitamix, and it seems to handle those very well. I have NOT tried beats, but sometimes I have tried coconuts and other items of similar consistency to beets. Of course, you can choose how many of these fiber dense products to put into the Vitamix, and whether to mix those with water and whether to include other liquid dense ingredients? And, with the Vitamix, using the plunger too can make a difference to make sure that you are getting a churning of the items.

I got the BigMouth because when I put carrots in the vitamix it turns into slush. And if I add water it tastes bland.
I have no idea how many nutrients I get from juicing carrots with the BigMouth vs putting them in the vitamix and adding water, but the taste and consistency of doing it with the vitamix is so bad that I'd never be able to drink that.
I don't put spinach, kale, parsley etc in the BigMouth because nothing comes out. So all that goes into the vitamix.
Supposedly, juice from masticating juicers retains more nutrients than juice from high-speed blenders like the vitamix, because the blender blade breaks up the cells as it cuts and the fiber slows the absorption of nutrients by the digestive system. But, you lose the fiber etc,. If that's true, then perhaps the best way would be to run everything through the masticating juicer (my masticating juicer (Olympus) was able to extract juice from greens), then combine the pulp and juice in the Vitamix and blend it all up, then drink it down. Seems like a lot of work to me. Perhaps if I have pre-cancer or a serious auto-immune condition or something like that I would go through that much effort.
I used the Olympus upright-masticating juicer for about a year, but I eventually got tired of how long it took to make a cup of juice- sometimes up to an hour including prep and cleanup. It also used to jam a lot until I figured-out to run the softer vegetables and fruits through first, then the tougher ones like greens, and finish up with carrots and cucumbers to help push all the residue through the screens.
I switched to a Vitamix several months ago and like it better, even if the overall nutrition is lower. I like being able to add frozen fruit, avocados, bananas, honey, apple cider vinegar, soy milk (yes, I'm aware it can lower testosterone) and yogurt to the mix. It also uses less material since it retains everything, so my grocery bill is lower. The prep and clean up is about 30-40% less time than that of the masticating juicer.

I don't do dairy and I am going to eliminate red meats completely.
Personally, I do NOT know why anyone would eliminate red meats from their diet unless they are the product of misinformation based on either vegetarian propaganda or environmentalism propaganda? I am NOT saying that the ideas of vegetarianism is bad or even concerns about the environment and sustainability are bad; however, if we are talking about personal health, there is a lot of nutrition in red meats (probably even the industrial raised ones), especially if you make sure that you eat the fat also.
Surely, it is better if you can get truly naturally grass fed beef, but, I remain of the conclusion that eating industrial beef is better than eating other processed foods containing either processed carbs or various industrial fats (which should be cut out first).
In my thinking there are a lot of processed things that could be cut out of our diets and even cutting back on some of the carbs in order to achieve better health parameters, but red meat should NOT be one of the items that we cut out. Probably good to eat red meat at least a couple times a week, if NOT more.
If Rudebwoy or anyone has some coherent logic (that is NOT based on misinformation) regarding alleged health benefits of cutting out red meat, I would like to hear about it.

RE: Health: Juicing
JayJuanGee - this is something I have played with for many years, I have done the research and I honestly think the negatives outweigh the positives of eating red meat.
The main question is where the meat comes from, I can't afford to buy grass fed meat all the time or drive to the nearest farm to get it.
Supermarket meat is bogus, you don't know where that meat comes from, how it was raised, when it was killed and if the animal was even healthy to begin with. To my knowledge, you should only eat meat that was killed two days ago max.
Look at the mad cow situation in Europe a few years back, they were feeding dead cows to living cows. Who is to say they weren't doing that in America/Canada.
Another thing I have researched is eating animals that have blood. I can't explain what I have read so I will leave it at that, a lot of it goes into spiritual stuff which I don't want to preach here.
I eat chicken, not too often because I really don't enjoy it unless it is fried or seasoned like mad.
My vice is fish which I simply love, fresh fish is amazing.
Health wise I am fine, both of my folks have high blood pressure and I don't. My parents aren't in bad shape, my 70 year old father got carded the other day at the border. lol
I know guys who have the same mindset and they are in great shape, I myself am in good shape.
I wanted to start a thread but I know what that would have turned into.

Ultimately, if you are refraining from red meat for religious reasons (or spiritual), I cannot really argue with that for anyone who makes that kind of choice - the same is true if a person is really into environmentalism or concern about the sake of the animal. I personally will think that it is the wrong vision, but I still accept that other people have different religious viewpoints and also different levels of ideology concerning what they consider acceptable behavior.
Certainly, you can get some of the same red-meat nutrients from other protein sources - eggs and seafood are good, yet I am NOT much of a fan of heavily emphasizing chicken (especially the feeding of GMO grains to chickens - but if a chicken is eating bugs and grass, then its meat is going to be pretty nutritious). Generally, I am too cheap to buy grass fed beef, but like I mentioned above I believe that overall it is probably better (health-wise) to eat the industrial meat than to eat the grains ourselves. Surely a large number of industrial cows are injected with hormones and antibodies yet I doubt that mad cow disease should be a major likelihood.
I still suspect that for health reasons, there is NOT really a strong case to be made to suggest some systemic health problem in eating red meat - but seems that we are merely at logger heads here.. and maybe just NOT worth pursuing further - especially in this thread.

RE: Health: Juicing
I am not refraining from red meat for religious reasons, mostly health reasons.
I agree if a chicken is eating naturally then I have no qualms about eating it, for example in the Caribbean you see animals in the back garden and next minute they are on your plate. That chicken tastes a lot different than the crap we get in Canadian supermarkets, I have a friend who is a wholesaler of chicken and he hardly eats it. So what does that tell you! I do know the chicken is cleaned with ammonia and injected with crap to make it grow quicker etc.
Fish is the same now, unfortunately most of it is farmed. Again who knows how long it has been around before it reaches the supermarket and gets on your plate, most fish smells. The smell lets you know it is bad, but yet people buy it including myself and we pay good money for it. I could use the "third world" Caribbean example again of what fresh fish tastes like.
Now as for red meat, there are many studies that show it leads to early death and high blood pressure. I can't be bothered to google the studies but I am sure you have read or heard this. You didn't quite answer the question on how our beef or cows are raised?
I am sure it is the same GMO feed and like you stated hormones are added to the beef, perhaps that is what explains pre - teens developing earlier than normal.
I have gone to the trouble of buying grass fed steaks during the summer, to be honest they are not as filling or tasty as the supermarket crap.
