Hey...

Is there anywhere in Manila that is similar to the MBK Center in BKK? ie a good place to pick up second hand mobile phones etc?

I was thinking I might get a few burners - could come in handy!

Thanks.

At least a few months before going to the Philippines (or Asia in general), I'd recommend getting your hepatitis B antibodies checked. If they're low, get a booster, or the 3 shot regimen if you've never been inoculated before.

I've read that as much as 20% of women in some Asian countries have hepatitis B, and many of them are unaware of it. It can be spread through sexual contact and is much more easily transmissible than HIV/AIDS.

I found a store in greenbelt in the area where the stores kind of look like they belong on the flea market (ground level). I was able to buy a refurb rio droid phone for something like $60.

Hi DVY

Out of interest, how long are you planning to stay for? Is it just a holiday?

There are a series of vaccinations you should do before going to SEA whether you sleep with girls or not. These include hepatitis, tetanus, typhus, and also japanese brain fever if you're venturing out of the big city.

Furthermore if you're in one of the countries considered "risky" health-wise by Filipino authorities, you will have to go through the department of quarantine once you try to extend your visa, where they will force you through a series of checks and will force you to swallow a polio vaccination (even if you had it in the past). US is not on that list though.

Oh OK - so you're based in Davao most of the time then? I was thinking that would be where I would go but the more I've read, the more I think I'll make a base in manila and travel out to other cities and locations from there. I just don't have the capacity for small places any more, kind of used to big cities... Undecided

There's loads of hot Korean and Japanese girls on boracay but gaming them is provng difficult due to the language and cultural barriers.

I know that there are threads on Korea and Japan but they are huge. Can you guys think of any members or posts that break down how to deal with this? I've searched but for me it's proved fruitless.

RE: The Philippines thread
Kona - thanks for the rec on that surf camp. I checked out their website, place looks very legit, and affordable at $40/nt. I'm shooting for a month long trip to SEA, most likely Philippines, in Aug or Sep this year. I would like to spend a week or 10 days while there either taking surfing or kite surfing lessons (complete beginner with both). A half day surf lesson and board rental at that camp is only around $35. A 9-12 hour kite surf beginner lesson package is around $300. These rates are much cheaper than what I was looking at for some places in the Caribbean and the US.

I had never heard of Siargao before this evening. A 5 second google image search made me question what the fuck I am doing in the Southwest USA. (I guess the same thing could be said for an image search of just about any island in SEA)

I'm going to spend some time reading through this thread and some of the others here to figure out if Davao, Manila, or Cebu make the most sense for me for the rest of my trip.

The only question I have at the moment is does it really make a difference what time of year you visit the Philippines? From what I have read it sounds like the ideal time is Nov-Mar but I would prefer to go in Aug-Sep due to some family obligations late fall in the US and a sense of urgency to go in 3 months rather than 9 months.

Not sure what the MBK Center is but lots of malls in Manila have a little section with a lot of phone stalls in a market kind of set up that sell second hand phones, cases, sim cards etc. The biggest one that I've been to is Greenhills (not Greenbelt) which has a whole floor of that kind of thing.

There are also quite a few local Filipino and Chinese brands of Android phones and some of them are really great phones aside from the camera for prices much cheaper than the global brands. I'd recommend Cherry Mobile.

RE: The Philippines thread
Chauncey, if you want to learn how to surf on Siargao I would recommend you to stay at either Paglaom Hostel (best place to meet new people and only 250 pesos per night) or next door at Jing's Place. Jing is the name of the owner and probably one of the best surfers on the island. He also gives lessons to complete newbies. One hour is 400 Pesos I think (incl. the board). If you want to learn it by yourself, board and motorbike rental are 350 Pesos a day each.

Regardless if you are into surfing or not, Siargao is a real gem. Definitely one of the most beautiful places in Asia.

Well I have a different relationship w/them so I can't really say how best to grease.

The best way is just to be friendly and ask how can I take care of you....

And go from there.

I usually just buy them food from the 7-11. Hotdogs and sodas and what not. ~150 pesos or so.

Greasing is cheap here in the Phils.

Some of the rich dudes here pay off the security guards to do lines @ Palace complex for 100-200 pesos.

Doesn't take much but thats about the rate.

RE: The Philippines thread
Had a hysterical moment last night:

Im walking out of Palace pool club area, and this girl goes hey, your cute and pulls me down. I sit w/her and this girl is just absolutely blasted. We talk for a bit. Her friend encourages me to go home w/her. I laugh. i call grabcar.

Then her white foreigner friend (guy) pulls up in an uber and just mad-dogs the shit out of me. The girl won't let go of me. She holding on like a baby on a pacifier. Her filipina friend had to pry her fingers off me. Drunk girl then runs back to me and demands my phone.

The whole time the white guy is staring me down, angry as shit.

Finally the drunk girl gets in the car.

I laugh.

Then I notice the taxi guys looking at me and dying of laughter. The guys are like "you should call her and take her tonight."

Bwahaha.

Drunken moments

The forum doesn't condone this type of thing in any way.

This piece of shit and his buddies defending him won't last around her very long and I hope they run into some RVF guys over in Phils.

RVF guys are the least of this guy's worries. The action starts when this girl finds out that she was just a pump-n-dump and her brothers/male members of her family gets a whiff of this story.

For the other lurkers who may be thinking of going into the Phils (or any 3rd world/developing country) to play 'alpha' and 'aggressive', take this as a warning: The karma you may attract through your actions is nothing to be taken lightly. I am speaking as someone who grew up in such a culture. The violence, poverty and corruption we grow up seeing is uninhibited and extreme. Combine this with a patriarchal system that place high value on the chastity of their women. This is an example of how tourists get killed in the worst possible ways. This is how people dissapear. This isn't Japan, USA or EE. Jail-time or getting beat up is the least of your worries.

Don't fuck around.

This guy should leave the Phils as soon as possible.

Rape happens more frequent than we know in third world countries.

Go to any small town, or city for the matter, and people will tell you about it. Older niggas will come by and rape bitches or they will "kidnap" them and take them to another city to wife them up.

Not sure where this "sweet innocent virgin girl" pedestalization comes from, girls from "developing" countries can be, and are, sluts too.

True in many cultures

WTF are you talking about? In this story a chick was forcefully deflowered, watched herself bleed and started crying, while a guy she just met forced himself on her with zero remorse. This was by his own words and could have been much worse in reality. No one is claiming that women in third world countries are all innocent virgins, neither should you claim that they're all worthless, emotionless sluts.

It's been hard to get apple cider vinegar for the better part of the last year.

There's actually some kind of "shortage" that prevents them from receiving large enough orders to keep up with demand. I believe it's tied to a poor apple harvest and/or the weather where they make the vinegar.

If you're here long term, you can get the place Healthy Options to put you on their list and hold a bottle when they get their next shipment in.

I know that there are threads on Korea and Japan but they are huge. Can you guys think of any members or posts that break down how to deal with this? I've searched but for me it's proved fruitless.

I don't have link to specific threads, but I think the general consensus here is that bagging a Korean in the Phils varies between nearly impossible at worst, and difficult at best. I have no intel on the Japanese broads, they seem easier than K girls especially when on vacation but I didn't run into that many on my tour there.

You will most likely have more language issues with K girls there on vacation, they are totally hit or miss.

But the good news is Philipines is language learning central for Koreans who can't afford to go to a 1st world country (USA, UK, Aus, etc) to learn English but still want an "immersive" environment. So, that means that if you choose the right spot, you can potentially meet some hot Korean gal who would love an "English Language Partner".

So that can solve your "language issues", but you still have a whole mountain of other issues to contend with most of which are going to involve other Koreans as they hang in really tight packs most often.

The press in Korea paints the Philippines as a seriously dangerous place, with innocent Koreans getting killed and mugged left right and center, which is totally untrue, but lets just say the Phils has a really bad rep here in Korea. A lot of people would never even consider going there. So getting a hot little K girl alone is going to be a serious challenge because they like to travel together.

So in my experience, I say not impossible, but yes extremely difficult. You could get really lucky and find a drunk one at the clubs, but if that happens it is like winning the lottery, as most times her friends will most likely not let her out of their sight.

The best option is to daygame it, cafes, or the nicer malls, especially if you find an English language school nearby with lots of Koreans enrolled. It is possible near there and they may even be alone, though your strikeout rate may still be very high.

At some point you may wonder why are you wasting all this time and effort trying to nail a korean when there are so many easy hot local pinays around? Sure they are hot, but is it worth it? Your call. Sometimes I would like to try and chat them up for a change of pace, so there is at least that novelty factor.

My best advice to do so is this: approach when they are alone or out of sight of their friends. Many may like you, but Korea has enormous social pressure and she will may not feel comfortable if you approach her in her group. Alone, it can be a totally different story. Doesn't cost anything but time to try! Happy hunting!

Oh, and it may give you an extra few seconds of her attention instead of instant rejection if you learn how to say "hello, my name is Poker, nice to meet you" in Korean AND you have a good backstory as to what you are doing there.
