RE: The Philippines thread
Just spent 3 days in the Philippines and got 2 notches, but:

1) First notch was from a girl I was talking online with; went to her place, ZERO LMR (easiest notch of my life), right in front of her screaming meatsack. Quite hard to ignore the crying baby 2 metres beside you fucking his mom, but a player gotta play.

2) Second notch was a massage girl who asked me 1000 pesos to fuck her, and since it was my last day there, I gave it a shot. Pretty average notch, but I was drunk so be it.

Other remarks:

- Taxis are scammers; I saw the taxi's meter at a red light go 80, 85, 90, 95, 700, 705. I opened the door and walked out without a word.
- Every fucking girl has a kid. There are almost no childness girls. Probably due to the lack of sexual education. Sadly, all children born outside marriage and where the father "just found a new girl".
- No virgins (at least, not that I know), so probably no chance of finding a filipino wife.
- Everyone speaks English. While it's easy to get along because of that, it's a perfect example of a country that lost its culture to Westernization.

Oddly enough, the traffic laws are actually enforced. We cannot drive Thai-style there.

That is strange. That is different from my experiences there. Sure, taxis will scam, but usually it's related to lying about not having change for large bills, or failing to turn on the meter. Are you sure the taxi meter didn't just have odd looking 1s?

I also think there's plenty of women out there without kids. Sure, many women will lie about it until you become attached, but even still, it was rare for me to come across single mothers in the women I dated. I also think virgins aren't super elusive- this was discussed a few posts ago in the thread.

I would argue that their English ability has done more good than bad. The American colonial period was pretty brutal, but one of the few good things that came about from that period was the influence of the Thomasites. They were a missionary group which hoped to impart a number of cultural changes into the Philippines, one of which was an emphasis on education. This was a reversal from the Spanish, who attempted to suppress education out of fear of competition from the influential illustrados.

It was quickly accepted, and the Filipinos, being a highly adaptable people, quickly adopted English proficiency and common law into their political structure. Part of the reason the Philippines wasn't granted independence was out of fear of takeover from other regional powers that were antagonistic to US interests. Their rapid adoption of the western educational system played a major role in them achieving independence in less than a century of American rule.

Yet to this day, the signs of westernization are relatively small compared to other countries. Catholicism rules the lives of many, and plays a much more prominent role in the lives of the people relative to secular western culture. Feminism has been largely rejected, and while it is making slow inroads, it has grown much slower compared to nearly everywhere else in the world. English has provided one of the few areas of economic strength. While it is a highly protectionist economy, the growth of BPO (business process outsourcing) businesses which provide low paid English speakers for Anglo businesses has been a major windfall for many Filipino households. The Philippines is also the English learning hub for most of Asia, bringing thousands of Koreans and other asians, along with their money into the country.

You will have a good time in Thailand then. Almost every girl there seriously believes in ghosts. That is also the reason why you shouldn't take a nap in the evening. Ghosts could come and you will never wake up again.

Or why you should never buy a house at the end of a crossroad

RE: The Philippines thread
Wow.......... finally made it to the end! Started on page 10 (figured the first 10 pages might be out of date now - maybe I'll read them anyway!) and have now arrived at page 139.

Great thread!

Hello everyone - my plan was originally to move to Shanghai for a year, learn some Mandarin and bang Chinese girls but the real reason was to work on my trading career. But the more I thought about, the less it made sense to move to Shanghai which is actually quite expensive (compared with SEA anyway) I won't be working, just living sensibly on some savings and trading hard.

I was interested in Vietnam having read about Victor Pride's life out there but for some reason the The Philippines was calling... Never been there, been to Thailand and HK but never the Phils.

I'd also like to get back into my PADI diving, do some specialist courses and become a Master Scuba Diver™(not a Divemaster)

I'd also love to go and really try to learn to surf, it's such an awesome sport; Philippines looks like a great place to learn.

So... if you don't mind, I've got a pile of questions I've been making as I read the thread.

I suppose the first and most important question is... where to make my base? I like big cities - I loved Bangkok. But for some reason, I don't fancy Manila. I was thinking Davao but then hearing your adventures, Cebu sounded good. A Pinoy told me that Davao is dry heat, not so humid and that usually typhoons bypass Davao - these are good factors. The beaches down that way look great too.

But small cities make me bored very quickly - I don't like "the quiet life" - I found Chiang Mai really dull. Would Davao be comparable to Chiang Mai in vibe?

I plan to stay in the Philippines for 6 months -that way I can rent an OK place, set up my trading desk, get decent wi-fi installed (or whatever) and do some work. What do you think?

Secondly - in Thailand, almost everywhere had a pool - it would be nice to get a place with a pool in PH. Is it less likely? Or cost prohibitive? I guess, $500 US a month for rent as a ballpark figure.

I need a good gym - free weights, smith machines, pull up bars, dip bars... benches. The basics. I'm quite a skinny fuck and want to bulk up, take it seriously this time. Maybe the food won't be great from what I've heard but for bulking up, pork and chicken and rice seem ok. Do folks eat a lot of fish? Would be crazy if they didn't, so plentiful around there.

What else... As this is gonna be a long trip, 6 months in PH then maybe move to Vietnam for 6 months, I'm thinking of bringing two large suitcases this time, plus a carry-on. In Thailand I just had 1 large but I want to bring biker gear to PH and rent/buy a motorbike too. I've been riding for 6 months here at home and will take my full test soon to ride unrestricted size bikes. I'll apply for the international driving license and bring it with me, could be handy. Also bringing some scuba gear. It all adds weight and bulk. Not so sure what to do. Could make it a real problem getting smaller flights like Air Asia with all that shit in tow.

Safety - I'll be bring a couple of laptops, camera kit, some video bits n' bobs. Do people get burgled much in the Phils? Thailand always seemed very safe to me.

You guys discussed it earlier but how do beards, tattoos and jewelry go down with girls there? Obviously, not all people are alike but I noticed in Thailand among the younger girls, beards = cool. Tattoos = cool. Rings etc.. some thought it was bad. (low-class) I don't sport a beard or any tats but might grow a bear when I'm off surfing - see how it looks.

How does flying to other SEA countries and back affect visa etc? In Thailand, when you left, that was it, one visa used up. Phils seems much more relaxed but what's the score?

How important is Facebook? I deleted mine a few years back as it pissed me off but have a fake one with zero friends for Tinder - maybe I should bulk it out a bit to make it look less fake.

How does the daygame thing of running up to girls and stopping them in their path go down? It gets a good reaction in the West but I should imagine quite badly in the Phils! Knowing Asians they would probably get freaked and/or embarrassed. I'm assuming it is much lower energy over there. ie just walk up and say hi.

On the bike thing, would any bikers recommend scooter or big bike for the Philippines?

Anyone ever found a cool Philippino guy to act as a kind of guide, someone who knows all the best spots, unusual places, hidden beaches etc? I found Thai men a bit weird and immature tbh, never befriended any.

What is NAIA?

I'm thinking of stopping off in BKK first for 2 weeks to get a suit made - never know, it might come in handy. Any tips on what type of accommodation to get for 2 weeks that's good for girls? I had my own condo last time but this is just 2 weeks - some air b n' b thing maybe - I've never used air bn'b.

Lastly.... what are my chances of having a threesome with Pinnays? Smile I tried with Thais but it never came through... I've read good threads here that lead me to believe it could finally happen with some Pinnays... am I dreaming? Haha.

Thanks a lot, look forward to meeting any of you who will be out there from 1st of June onwards....

I think the only way to answer your questions is real life experience. Go visit all of them for a month each. I personally didn't like Manila as a city. You will not have problems making friends with guys there, the people in the Philippines are as friendly as people can get. Vietnamese people are also very friendly but nothing compares to Philippines. Thai people I thought were only friendly when you're in their business spending money for the most part.

Hi samsamsam

Yes, it is a bit tl;dr... didn't get a chance to edit it in time.

OK - ignore the long one - the most important question I guess is:

Manilla, Cebu or Davao for a 6 month stay to primarily do/work study online but also a bit of play - diving, surfing and girls of course.

Manilla - the good: big city, I like big cities like Bangkok. The bad - bit more expensive and maybe not as nice as somewhere like Davao, in terms of natural beauty.

Thanks.

I'd AirBnb it for a month before signing any kind of contract. Absolutely triple check that the place comes with reliable high speed internet, preferably Fibr.

Internet in Phil is probably the worst in Asia in general.

You're over analyzing everything else. Just arrive and go with it.

Look at AirBnb for a sense of the rents and the quality.

Phil is not cheap if you want to live like a westerner.

$500 won't get you far unless you want to live like a local.

There are some good dive spots in Palawan that are worth checking out.

From what I've heard, the best spots are Siargo and Baler, and they become good at different times of the year. I would double check in the surfing thread though.

Don't knock a place until you try it. I've never been to Davao, but heard it's nightlife is relatively tame. Cebu has some nightlife but I thought there's almost nothing worthwhile there. I think Manila would be your best bet as far as the Philippines goes. Internet is going to be worse than you're probably used to, but it's possible to get a decent connection in Manila. You shouldn't have too hard a time finding a condo with a pool and gym, though you might have to be more flexible on the price. Might be hard to find a proper gym.

Riding a motorcycle in Manila seems dangerous to me. It's not nearly as bike friendly as Thailand from what I've read.

Phils is relatively safe, isn't as safe as Thailand, and most crime is property related like theft or pickpocketing. If you're in a nice area like greenbelt or BGC, or you're just going between the mall and your condo I don't think it's much to worry about.

Quote:How does flying to other SEA countries and back affect visa etc? In Thailand, when you left, that was it, one visa used up. Phils seems much more relaxed but what's the score?
That's generally how many people reset their visa (traveling to other Asian countries) so they can live indefinitely on a tourist visa. After 30 days you have to extend to 59 days, then you can extend for another few months, and so on. The extension process requires going to the Bureau of Immigration.

Filipinas can be very shy, but they're generally pretty friendly.

Better to ask a tour guide (if you're at a vacation spot), or your condo owner/local expats in the cities.

I wasn't even really shooting for a threesome and had one fall into my lap my last time in Manila. I think your chances are good compared to other places. Face and reputation are a big deal, and everyone gossips, so they're going to want your assurance on being absolutely discrete about everything. I'd look for at least one of the chicks, preferably both to be openly wild/slutty. Best case scenario if they're friends and already comfortable. Otherwise it's good to have them meet casually and get comfortable before you give it a shot.

Also, I'd echo what other posters have already said. If you're planning on living long term, the best idea seems to be to give yourself at least a couple weeks at each place to scope them out before making a firm commitment.

I've been to Siargao 2 years ago.

Cloud 9 is arguably one of the best breaks in the world. Its a right with some really evil coral very close. Its not at all for beginners.

There's a north swell from around November to April.

Stayed at http://surfcampsiargao.com. It was a really nice place especially by surf camp standards. The downside was drunk Australians.

I flew there straight from NAIA (Ninoy Aquino International Airport) after nonstop from HNL on PAL express. Looks like most people get there through Cebu.

Aloha!

RE: The Philippines thread
Davao is better for a more relaxed pace of life. It will be easier to go to the beaches and scuba diving, but the nightlife scene is very small and everything closes at 1pm sharp. It's also a small town type of atmosphere. Also smoking is outlawed except for inside your apartment. The condo choices are slim, but they are building new ones over the next few years.

Manila is of course much larger, more girls, more nightlife, more condo options and it's infrastructure is more developed in that it has sidewalks, green-space, etc. The internet connection will probably be much faster there if you get a place in the right building. You can find specific info in the Living in Manila thread. That's only 54 pages. Haha

I've never been to Cebu or anywhere else in Asia. Also it's been almost 2 years since I've been there.

Quote:"What do you mean by trading career? Day trading stocks?"

Not day trading but longer term outlook, like 1-3 month trades (but maybe some day/swing trading on the side - I know the internet in PH might not be fast/reliable enough for fast trading, so...)

"There are some good dive spots in Palawan that are worth checking out."

Yes I've made notes from the thread and will do online searching too - so far so good - Philippines looks like a giant swimming pool in some places! Such clear water.

"From what I've heard, the best spots are Siargo and Baler, and they become good at different times of the year. I would double check in the surfing thread though."

Cool, didn't see there was a separate thread for surfing, good tip. I also bough the book Global Surfari which someone mentioned, so I'll be trawling that.

"Don't knock a place until you try it. I've never been to Davao, but heard it's nightlife is relatively tame. Cebu has some nightlife but I thought there's almost nothing worthwhile there. Yeah, maybe basing in Manila is going to be the way forward. Or doing what's suggested and trying out the cities first. Internet, living-costs and girls are the main concerns! For a gym, I'm looking to find one in the city, not necessarily in the apartment complex.

"Riding a motorcycle in Manila seems dangerous to me. It's not nearly as bike friendly as Thailand from what I've read."

Didn't someone else just say that unlike Thailand, they actually seem to follow the rules of the road a bit more here? Admittedly, I don't really like the idea of riding a bike in either but it's so useful for these cities to get past the traffic and have some freedom. Guess I'll check it out on arrival.

"Phils is relatively safe, isn't as safe as Thailand, and most crime is property related like theft or pickpocketing. If you're in a nice area like greenbelt or BGC, or you're just going between the mall and your condo I don't think it's much to worry about."

I was kind of thinking about getting a more private house than a condo this time - I got kind of sick of the guards in Bangkok always watching me bring different girls home, from what I've read on here, they're potentially worse in the Philippines! But, that adds the extra risk of leaving items unattended when away on a trip or out for the night if I'm in a place without security.

"That's generally how many people reset their visa (traveling to other Asian countries) so they can live indefinitely on a tourist visa. After 30 days you have to extend to 59 days, then you can extend for another few months, and so on. The extension process requires going to the Bureau of Immigration."

Yes, seems easier here than Thailand - that was a real pain going to the Immigration at the end of the BTS plus long taxi ride. Then those damn minivans to Cambodia -deadly!

"Use AirBNB, get a condo." - OK, great, I'll check it out.

"I wasn't even really shooting for a threesome and had one fall into my lap my last time in Manila. I think your chances are good compared to other places. Well... fingers crossed then I guess! Thanks a lot for your in-depth responses. I shall report back any new information I find to the forum when I'm on the ground.

Yes I read about the no-smoking thing - I take it that is a policy of Rodrigo Duterte in a bid to decrease "criminal elements" in his city? Along with the DDS. Not sure if that's quite the scene I want to be a part of! Manila is sounding more likely by the minute...

Trading as in financial instruments trading online? I think you underestimate how awful the internet is in the Philippines. If you need real time executions on a regular basis simply forget it. If you do long term trades and don't mind paying some slippage every so often, then that's more doable.

I think the no-smoking is more about a powerful man being the big Father. Not much different from how Bloomberg was as mayor of NYC. Some things they do for a city are very good, but they can take things too far when encroaching on people's personal life choices.

I wouldn't worry about the DDS. From my conversations with ex-pats there, foreigners get handled very differently than Filipino's when it comes to the law. They want foreign investment. Last time I was there I saw what was called "Tourist Police" at the mall, or something of that nature. Probably a dedicated faction for special handling of issues with foreigners, though I'm not sure.

There were a group of foriegner's kidnapped from a boat marina on Samal island last September. I don't believe they've been recovered yet. The marina was run by a foriegner the past several years and he was one the guys who was kidnapped. I believe they are being held for ransom since one of the men is wealthy and holds an important position at a corporation who does business there. In other words, it was probably targeted.

I'm not trying to fear-monger about Davao because I think anyone would be perfectly safe in the city, and I most likely will go back there later this year. Myself I would feel vulnerable spending the night on Samal or Talikud island.

Quite a few situations i've been running into lately are young girls who were dating a married man without knowing it. Then when she gets preggers he drops the marriage bomb and exits stage left. In other parts of asia most of the time the guys will have the decency to keep her on as a mistress. Not in the Philippines though..preggers usually means the local dude is moments from riding off into the sunset like a cocksman cowboy.

They are definitely out there. Very traditional though or super innocent types. You won't be meeting them most of the time without the whole chaperone thing which I refuse to waste time with or usually only in a mixed non party social setting.

Quote:- Everyone speaks English. While it's easy to get along because of that, it's a perfect example of a country that lost its culture to Westernization.

Deeper language comprehension is pretty bad in the Philippines though. Use of words and grammar often makes no sense. Critical thinking and forward planning is almost non existant with the general populace.

RE: The Philippines thread
Would you guys say that low english proficiency in the Philippines is an indicator that the girl comes from a poor background? In most other Asian countries that is definitely not the case but in the Philippines I feel like there is a correlation between English skills and social class.

Edit: I am talking about grammar, spelling and really understanding english. Things that you notice just from texting with girls. Because obviously, almost everyone speaks English but their written English can be really terrible sometimes.

I definitely think that's the case. Filipinos are obsessed with flaunting their status, and English proficiency is seen as something only the highly educated do. Sometimes on TV, you'll see upper class Filipinos speaking in taglish because they often forget some Tagalog words. There are some exceptions in cases where poor women work for call centers or teach English, but by and large English proficiency is a good proxy for socioeconomic status.

RE: The Philippines thread
^ It's not just Filipinos (unfortunately). Many fresh semi rich do it, flaunt their assets so to make sure everyone understands they are more or less rich now. They also tend to get deeply, deeply offended if you appear to doubt their financial status.

As opposed to people who come from 'old money' families. Proving others they're wealthy simply doesn't do it for them since they don't have an ounce of insecurity about it.

I've met a couple who even went out of their way to hide their wealth since they didn't want people (especially girls) to shape their opinions about them due to their money.

Exactly the opposite from the 'new rich'.

I'm sure there are cases for and against what old money does. I'm friends with an old money Chinese Filipina who grew up in Singapore, and she literally gets upset when I use Tagalog phrases instead of English.

If I remember correctly it sort of works in shifts. I think 10pm was very Korean and midnight became more local when I was there. Give or take an hour or so.
This was also a while ago so things may have changed.

Oddly enough, Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar is the new health fad in the Philippines. Walking off the shelves.

Dr Johnson rumbles with the RawGod. And lives to regret it.
