What is the validity of that pic? He does not look like Leroy Jones the famous trumpet player at all.

Kinda reminds me of the Jimi Hendrix stuff that came out a while back. God only knows how many white chicks he smashed.

I can understand how many of you guys with Caribbean and African roots feel about this stuff, but for me and probably many other Black Americans, this place is our culture and our reality. Whether we like it, understand it, or not. Our ancestors had their original cultures and values removed from them, for better or for worse. We have the opportunity to know God and be blessed. Despite their hardship it is better to be here right now in our current state and be grateful for what we have. Our opportunities are now limitless.

I used to think I wanted a girl from Louisiana for those reasons. Pfft. My mother calls my wife her favorite daughter in law and twice did so in front of others in the family without realizing she did it. I have had to pull her to the side to ask her to tone down the gushing over my wife so the others won't feel bad too many times. At the time relatives with Louisiana wives would not get anywhere near that much love from my mother.

It's funny in the regard that my mother begged me not to go to China the first time I went and promised to find me a good Louisiana woman. I laughed at her and declined the offer back then and continued on with my trip.

Funny how pre-conceived notions people have about other cultures, etc. can change when the fundamental basis of both cultures are very similar and the value systems are virtually the same. A belief in Christ makes it even more easy if he is put first and the culture of man second. Only if real Christian values are actually in play and not worn on the sleeve....

Just sayin...

All in All, American culture is just an ugly hydra with many heads. It's diverse but yet it's own unique beast. If I had known my DNA breakdown 20 years ago, would I had moved to France? Apply for a blood card with two Native American tribes that I can prove my lineage with? Nah. What's the point. For me we are all the same in Christ and that is good enough for me as long as the values we share are all the same.

Kai - I understand and this is not your first dance at the rodeo, so to speak.

I don't know many guys that are willing to travel around the world to find a "traditional" woman.

As for Holland - don't forget there is a segment of the population that sees us like this.

My UK cousin married a "yardie" so to speak, she is a nice girl and a badass cook.

I always wondered why he chose her over the tons of local girls he could have had.

Unfortunately, doing what makes one happy doesn't necessarily work. A lot of guys have done what made them happy and ended up divorcing or they keep entering relationships with useless lizards because they think that's their lot in life. This is a discussion about realising what options are available out there and at least having a plan of action.

Traveler, I feel you, bro but realise that everyone had their cultures and values taken from them. Caribbeans are Africans in the Americas..they came on ships just like everyone else. Even Africans back home don't have it sweet, on my last trip back to Nigeria, a family friend showed me pics of the latest Boko attack from where he lived (he had come back to the village for Christmas which is customary for us). The pics showed a slew of human bodies littering the street like a van of meat had just tipped over. Men, women, children, no discrimination. He had taken these pics himself with his phone, these were not Instagram uploads from some reporter's feed.

Some may say "Oh, Moma but that's Africans doing that to each other". There is more to all that but that's another story for a much deeper discussion. From a more cursory standpoint, everyone is feeling the heat, no particular group has it hunky dory in the diaspora. In the UK we complained a lot and I still to this day uphold that it's better off for a black person in America than in the UK. In the UK, we had zero representation in parliament, on television etc. Not until Idris Elba was forced to come to America to blow, did Americans even realise that we actually have a black population in the UK. I've been visiting America since the 90s and I was always regarded as a unicorn when I opened my mouth.

My point is, Americans will let you know what's happening which is in the constitution, freedom of speech (to some degree). In other countries, people have to suffer in silence and just bite the bullet. However, just because one grins and shows teeth, doesn't mean that they are not feeling the bite as much as another person who is yelling and screaming.

I've found that issues I've had in LTR's were never things that I could really prepare for.
- death in the family
- mental health issues manifesting
- history of abuse
- low self esteem..

And I'm talking about fully functioning, gainfully employed, educated, socially well adjusted women. Not bar slutz looking to glom on to any guy with a future.

These things don't tend to be culturally specific.

But Dimebait brings up a good point. One that I know Jariel shared in one of his posts.

Can she help you cope?

The real value in a partner is that she can calm you down, get your bearings right, and then get you ready for the next day.

You can't see that sort of value in her low cut blouse. And she might not have had to bring that to the table in a relationship before. You might not have ever needed it, to be honest.

But the time will come, and you'll find out whether she can give you what you need to keep pushing forward.

I don't know about that Moma. Caribbean folks vastly outnumber any "white" people, have their own unique holidays (Carnivals, etc), have stuff like Peanut Punch, all kinds of foods, etc. Blacks in America have the same stuff the whites have. Before some jackass says what about Soul Food or Fried Chicken, etc. that stuff is not exclusive to us. Southern Whites eat just as much of that stuff as we do. Who do you think we learned most of it from?

Nigerians have their own culture and stuff. Yoruba or Igbo, each group has their own stuff that goes waaaaay back. You West African guys can probably trace your ancestors back to Biblical figures and even BC figures like Askia and the Songhai. I cannot even get a good idea DNA wise where the fuck my African roots even came from. The best I can get is Bantu. That could be anywhere. Shaka and the Zulus are Bantus for example and they are South East African not Western like most DNA testing places thinks most Black Americans are.

Being married to a Nigerian was a massive culture shock for me. We had nothing in common like I thought I would back when I was blue pill and ignorant. Back then I thought black was just black. I though we were all on the same page and on the same boat. How wrong was I. She hardly identified as black and took offense to being called that. She was Yoruba first, Nigerian second, and African third. I am nothing like that as an American generally speaking. Our values systems were more different than the cultural differences even. Not trying to knock Nigerians but their notions and ideas of what is "fair" or "right" is not really the same as ours. I'm not calling you guys liars or cheaters, but you are far more opportunistic by nature than a typical Black American. To be fair a good amount of Chinese people are like this too, but not all nor most. It's really hard to describe and put to words but some may know what I mean.

I don't really think anything violence related, especially with radical Islamic Boko Haram, fits this discussion so I won't comment on that. If anything that just shows that Nigeria's 3-4 main groups probably should think about splitting up, like Iraq should. I don't know.

As for the UK, I don't know enough about blacks in the UK to really comment, but in regards to America (your last paragraph) that is a bigger discussion. Comparitive Politics is broad. UK and the USA have totally different systems. There is good and bad in it. You guys had no slavery and Jim Crow, yet you get terrible representation due to Parliamentary style government and having a lower population. We may have stronger voting blocs but it does not amount to much in many ways and is losing it's power due to dilution and Victimhood Olympics disagreements.

In the context of relationships and women, I think the values are more important than the culture alone. That previous poster that brought up his example of the Hispanic woman he divorced, should provide more examples of what went wrong. I highly doubt they got divorced for mere cultural reasons. Most divorces end over money, that is a fact. Cheating in all forms and bad events would come afterwards. I doubt they got into shit over Cinco de Mayo. In fact if his exwife was a second or third generation Mexican American woman, then we are talking about an entitled and possibly feminist woman with her own agendas, which is no different than being married to a White or Black American woman. It's the same bullshit at that level.
WestIndianArchie 路 2016-04-11 13:14:00 路 #1665
I think DB said he was dealing with work related race issues. Something most of us have been through. Rather than be in his corner, the implication was that she was looking for any reason other than race to describe what he was going through.

On one level, that's typical white privilege thinking. DB said that she was raised to not see color. I've known plenty of minority females that never see race, even when race is right in front of them and affects them daily. I've met clueless black people like this, many of whom didn't have an excuse like being mixed.

But the second level is that, even if he's wrong, or she disagrees with what the issue is, she's supposed to bite her tongue and support him.

That's the deeper level of betrayal. It's bigger than money because it gets at the foundation of the union.

For me, I uncover these beliefs very quickly. I couldn't even be serious with a chick like the one described

Kai - I will try and flesh things out more when I get home but one can't really quote slavery when they were born in the 80s. Jim Crow and slavery ended before then. The current wave of black Britons you see arrived in the UK in the 50s and 60s after the short Austrian geezer turned Europe upside down. Policies back then strictly stated "No blacks, no Irish and no dogs" for those seeking room and board. Europeans are a slicker bunch. Rudebwoy has shown you lot the blackface saga in Holland. When one tries to complain about that, people will laugh it off and say "why are you getting in uproar over a bit of fun?"

British hooligans are the worst in the world, you go to any football (soccer) game which is by far the biggest sport in Europe and you have fans making simian sounds and throwing banana skins on the pitch to taunt black players. This practice is also done by the home fans. On mainland Europe, some will heat up coins and toss them onto you so that the hot copper burns the exposed human flesh. Can you imagine James Harding getting a banana tossed at him during a home game?
Remember that the laws in Europe are not as stifling and strict as the US. That taunting stuff will usually be laughed off when reported. Your claim about the States is the psychological baggage and I'm by no means downplaying that. My question is, for the black American guys on here and most are born in the 80s and later, when have you directly experienced the brunt of a Jim Crow law or slavery?
Not too trivialise it but I can match a majority of all accounts in the 80s with a British equivalent. My doing so just illustrates that it's sadly not unique to US of A.

I would like to preface this by saying, I have many decades of dealing with non - black women on two different continents and in many countries.

I will also state the vast majority of women I have dated have been white. So for those reading this, please do not get the impression that i'm racist or anti anything.

Moma was telling me a story about a girl he knew, she was a lover of black men. She had a decent job working in HR but for whatever reason made the choice not to hire black men. To me this is a perfect example of the understated racism that goes on nowadays. The racism is never blatant.

I had another friend, who got a job at a big company. He was the only black dude out of a 1000 employees working there, yet many women seemed very curious and almost amazed that he was working there.

Now if I relate these stories to a non-black person, I am sure they would say I am making this up and over-reacting.

Personally, I know too many black guys who shuck and jive to be with white women. They absolutely disgust me and I'm most definetly the other end of that spectrum.

I once dated a girl, who was a "bottom bitch" to me, we got into a dispute once. She did use the N-word but of course apologized later on, I laughed it off. The joke was several years after we broke up, she called me saying she wanted to have a child at age 40. I hung up the phone and stop returning her emails.

We may not have had slavery in the UK or Jim Crow, but the struggle is very real all the same. When I grew up there was a political party called the National Front, their platform was too send all the "darkies" back to where they came from. Even today there is a party that has the same ideologies, called the BNP (British National Party).

Growing up there in the 70s and 80s was no joke, fighting racist dudes was a common thing.

I didn't really see myself as being different, although I went to a predominatly "white"school with me being the only black kid. Once the TV series Roots came out, many kids took that opportunity to try and knock me down a few pegs. I fought on a regular basis, even once beating a kid up so bad that I thought I would get expelled.

Whoa there Moma.... Jim Crow and Slavery may have ended but racism never did. I and many other blacks born in the 80s or earlier can speak about racism easily. I spoke about this before with you and Rude on the show. I have been kicked out of a classroom and called a nigger by a teacher before (She wasn't fired or disciplined either). I was chased 2 different times by Klansmen and jumped by one group of them. One of those times I was even with my mother.

Guys I know around my age have even been refused service at a McDonalds in East Texas in the late 90s. Young blacks born in the late 90s and 2000s probably won't see shit like this, but don't think for a minute that because Slavery and Jim Crow ended decades ago, that the lasting effects of slavery and Jim Crow just magically went away.

In 2009 I was house hunting with my exwife in an area I do not like that is known for having too many ignorant ass rednecks. I went inside the model home and started talking to a sales guy about the homes they were building in that area. A white couple walked into the model home and then the guy said to me and my exwife, "Excuse me, but I need to go talk to some real customers." Then went over to them. Needless to say I did not buy in that area as a result. I stay in the multicultural parts of Houston for a reason. Outside of the actual city and you have to put up with bullshit like this sometimes. Sometimes rednecks in big trucks will try to run you off the roads outside of Houston. Not sure if it is always racism but you cannot help but wonder. It's still ridiculous.

I have a really good Dutch friend and he is definitely racist. He has said plenty of fucked up shit that is not politically correct at all. The only reason why I bothered to stay friends with him is because he would make fun of Mexicans, Scottish guys, and Asians too. He loves Japanese things and cars and all kinds of non-white things. He loves rap too. Once I asked him about all this shit, and he told me that is just the way they are. They have no filter and will make fun of anything. As years went by and I came into contact with more Dutch people and saw what they do internationally it started to make sense. They have a fucked up/dark sense of humor. It really isn't that funny, but what can you do? If he was not such a kind-hearted guy that would do almost anything to help me out, I probably would not fuck with him.

Blackface and bananas would not rile up a black man my father's age at all, but a Black Lives Matter/Millennial black person would literally go berserk on the spot. It can be harder for someone that has never had Klansmen try to kick his ass walking in a neighborhood with no one else around, have the thickskin to let a banana thrown slide. That just goes to show you how much better things have gotten.

That said, anyone around my age that grew up in the deep South, may know what real racism is. Don't think for a minute that we have no idea just because shit is much more lax than the 60s. James Byrd Jr. was dragged to death in East Texas in 1998, not 1960. When did something like that happen in the UK? Crazy stuff really did not stop until the Politically Correctness wave started. Only then would anyone yelling nigger at others result in getting fired, lambasted on TV media, and followed by media trucks for weeks. Nowadays the only people getting away with yelling nigger at people are protesters/tea party/etc. at political rallies. Even then some of them get doxxed and people send photos and videos to their places of employment. The Information Age has changed everything, now that we are into the thick of it. If that teacher that called me a nigger did that today, I or others would have recorded it on iPhones or reported it in mass, and she would have lost her state teaching license within a few weeks. She would have even been on CNN. I think my mother was the only person that complained to the district and the state back then. Nothing happened to her at all and I had to go to a different school... Some food for thought.

I think the racism in Europe is problematic for blacks there due to the lack of numbers of black minorities. How many people can flood the street over a blackface incident? Over here too many are able to protest and shut down some shit economically (for example Alabama buses and business feeling the pinch). Also, whites there can downplay it down to just speech stuff. When was the last time British people dragged any blacks outside their homes for a beating/hanging/etc. Over here racist speech often turned into violence, so we are more sensitive to it on stopping the hate speech before shit gets out of hand, because of the history and culture of the US.

Europe has been more homogeneous Scandinavian/Aryan/Anglo/Teuton/etc. than American ever was. Black people have been here since the beginning of the country and even before that. Europe stopped all kinds of slavery/slave trading and indentured servitude long before America did (The French ended it in 1300s for example). No European country had 600,000+ people get killed over slaves in a stupid civil war (I know it was more about state's rights but slavery had alot to do with those states rights).

It's hard to compare European racism to American racism in a tit for tat style comparison. You have to look at alot of different factors such as history, societal structure, geography, political system (style of democracy/monarchy/etc.), economics, etc. A KKK guy here hates blacks for very personal and even religious reasons, whereas some Europeans hate minorities because they consume jobs and social entitlements. It's just much more nuanced than a surface level comparison.

Most racism in America is cloaked, it likes pornography. As the late Justice Stewart put it, "though I cannot define it, I know it when I see it!"

It starts at an early age, our young boys are taught in public schools by predominately white females who feel physically and sexually threatened by black boys which leads to increased discipline, followed by the criminalization of young and adolescent behavior. Now you've got a criminal record at the age of 14 for stupid shit you did in high school.

Next, its the predominately white police force who are unable to empathize and even see you as human being who will be six times more likely to arrest you for something they'd let a white college kid (to whom they can identify with) off with a warning for. (lets say smoking pot)

Now, you've got a prior record entering the American Criminal (in)justice system where nearly 97% of all cases end in a plea bargain whether you're truly guilty or not. You take a plea for possession and go on about your business.
Now, you've got a drug conviction and find out you no longer qualify for things like; financial aid, certain jobs, housing, and legally owning a fire arm.
So I can't go to school without paying cash, and I'm limited on where I can work and where I can live. Time to make this money, the best way I know how.

The cycle continues . . .

I know the aforementioned sounds entirely avoidable, almost like a choice, but you'd be amazed at the number of us who fall into this trap. I myself fell into it as a young man of color and pulled myself out only with vigorous intervention from my parents. Many of my brothers aren't so lucky.

1 out 4 Americans have criminal records, however 1 out 2 black men have criminal records! Being convicted of a crime (especially a felony) is the new Jim Crow legal form of discrimination here in the U.S. This shit is real and has had disastrous effects on our community.

Its part of the reason why there are 1.2 million more eligible sisters than there are brothers. I can empathize with the frustration from black women who see the "eligible" ones then choose someone unlike themselves.

As someone pointed out, there are black folk who can't even fathom the depth and design of this trap, let alone those who are privileged.

What's popping for the new season?

You tell me, bro, you are the fashion hub! I'm in the South so I can get away with slumming it somewhat (or so I believe). I'm also in the process of designing an updated body to get some of that passive in-CUM.

Spring/Summer = brighter clothes, fabrics that you breath, white sneakers/shoes, swim trunks.

Bout to bite the bullet on this Bogota trip. Everytime my finger hovers over the buy button, I think of the cash I'm losing by not working.
