There's only one survivor of this year's cryptocurrency slaughter: VeChain

I think that the capitulation of the market is not that so bad overall: I would have never bought in case of boom of the price, but instead VeChain below 3$ is an opportunity to accumulate and take some risks betting on the blockchain technology. I agree with Tim Draper that it's like the beginning of internet and now we can finally see good price as entry point.

Do you think if BTC goes to 5k/6k or even 3k, VEN's price will remain at the 3$ level?

Vechain are the best in the world at what they do. A true marketing machine. That CNBC article is a fantastic appeal to all the plebs out there.

I signed up an X Node. Was expecting a dump afterwards, it was only minor vs ETH so haven't bought more tokens yet to upgrade to the next tier node.

Teeka and CNBC pushing them. A lot of "partnerships". Marketing superstars. Masternodes. This is as good as it gets in crypto. Hopefully they're actually legit.

VEN's marketers are the best in the fucking business. Absolutely no doubt about that. If they were promoting BTC instead of VEN the stuff would be worth 300k a coin and we'd all be posting from our flying lambos on the moon.
VEN's google trends has ticked UP over the past week, which is absolutely astonishing in this shitty bear market.

Not being a trader honestly the actual price doesn't bring me massive headaches. Of course the decline of VEN is connected with BTC and ETH pairs. Seen the number of partnership lifted in Q1, the actual price should be different, but that's crypto. A strong rise of the price will come with adoption, we know that there is a pool of VEN to be distributed to privileged clients under certain conditions of partnership. But the rest of the clients after the mainnet will have to buy VEN in the market to produce THOR and this will lead the price up. Let's remember that Kevin Feng have declared that there are over 150 projects in the pipeline for 2018.

Have there been any projections for what VEN's pricing would look like absent speculation?
Kind of curious.

Kind of curious.

I know this isn't what you're asking but VEN got to $9 when the crypto market cap was $800bn.

Unless they do a coin burn or take millions and millions out of their circulating supply, it's not going to be a $100 coin, unless the crypto market ends up getting to close to $10trillion. That's not out of the question, but will take a very long time.

It's making me rethink how much I'm putting into VEN, but should we keep dropping more and more in the crypto space, and we start seeing sub $2 VEN, then I will load up so that my $100 long term target is more like $50 which is more realistic by the end of next year I think.

No, that definitely isn't what I was asking. I'm curious if it's a self-sustainable form of passive income absent speculation.

RE: Vechain (VEN) Thread
That would depend on how much THOR is worth really, won't it? I've got enough VEN for something like 1.2 THOR generated a day, but if THOR is worth $5 then it's shit.

People are looking at NEO/GAS as an idea of what to expect, and when the crypto market cap was at its highest, GAS was about $50 I think.

I'm not sure we can expect THOR to be the same, because I think Vechain want it to be stable for their clients, so huge price increases and decreases isn't going to work for them. This is why I hesitated to get an X node. For an extra 25% of THOR a day, I can't see the huge benefit of that unless THOR is worth at least $50, which again, I think is highly unlikely.

If you don't mind my asking, how much VEN do you need to get 1.2 THOR a day?

RE: Vechain (VEN) Thread
I just did some basic math:
Circulating Supply is 523,270,505 VEN
We'll assume 70% is staked, 'cause that's pretty standard for masternode-style coins.
Staked VEN: 523,270,505 * .7 = 366289354 VEN
Projected Amount of THOR generated by network daily according to thorcalc.com = 263728

This is probably off a bit due to their complicated node system, but it should be in the ballpark.
Monthly: 7,911,850
Yearly: 96,260,842

So for THOR to be worth a buck a thor, you'd need 100 million dollars being spent on THOR yearly. 5$ would require 500 million dollars, and 50$ would require 5 billion.

Am I doing that right?

No idea if you're doing that right or not!

You can check https://thorcalculator.com/

I had about ~2500 for 1 THOR to be generated daily, I think.

Am I doing that right?

The available supply of VEN is 873,378,637. Each VEN produces 0.00042 THOR daily. For 1 THOR/Day you need 2,381 VEN, for 1.2 THOR 2,858.

The daily THOR production is 873,378,637 * 0.00042 = 366,819
Annual THOR production 366,819 * 365 = 133, 888, 945

After each transaction on Thor Blockchain 70% of Thor is burned and 30% goes to Authority Nodes.

There are 101 Authority Nodes that stake 250,000 VEN and were approved in December by Vechain Foundation.

THOR is an inflationary token which means its price will decrease if there is not enough demand for it. Depending on the demand it may skyrocket or dump.

P.S. The Foundation can adjust Thor production anytime. It can also set Thor price per transaction. I think they will try to appease both VEN holders and their potential customers. I think $20-30 per Thor is not unreasonable.

You don't need a node to get Thor. You can earn Thor by simply keeping you VEN, no matter how many, in an official VEN wallet or a participating exchange after the mainnet launch in June. There is no info on participating exchanges yet but Binance will most likely distribute Thor to VEN holders.

Spent a bit of time reading about VEN's token economics model.

Seems pretty goofy, and very focused around keeping short term token price up.
I think I'll look elsewhere for my passive income needs.

Good stuff having a direct fiat pair in South Korea, that might increase the pool of potential investors in the country. Let's wait for more EUR and USD pairs.

RE: Vechain (VEN) Thread
I'm waiting for BTC to drop some more so that I can put a few more grand into Vechain. I think that should we see BTC drop to around $5000 as predicted, then it's not unreasonable to expect VEN to drop to around 0.0003 BTC.

If it does happen, I'll aim to drop 1 BTC into VEN which should get me close to 3,500 more at those figures.

I'm extremely bullish on VEN, and I'd expect it to hit $50 in the next 18 months - potentially more if the crypto market exceeds its ATH.

I was originally targeting a $100 VEN before cashing out, but if I've got the chance to drop 1BTC in at a low level, I'd be aiming more for $50 before cashing out.

I think the mainnet launch in June is going to be huge, especially if NEO's boom is any example to follow.

I think this is HUGE for them. Tim Draper is a legend in VC industry and someone who understands blockchain, cryptocurrency, and bitcoin.

I would say that he is also right on this one that VeChain has a huge potential in the future. I believe in Tim.

Only for small numbers. You get large enough and it becomes n*log(n), not n^2. Also to nitpick slightly further, the value of a network is proportional to square of numbers of users, not exactly equal to the square of numbers of users, ie. you get

Value = A*n^2 for small number of users
Value = B*n*log(n) for large number of users

A, and B depend on actual empirical data.

If you're really curious, here's a bit of a longer read:

https://spectrum.ieee.org/computing/netw...w-is-wrong

Regardless, VEN does have a lot of potential.

In terms of top 10 coins, they tend to be platform coins, not specific application coins though. I guess it could change in the future.

I agree it will really depends on how many dApps will be built and how many clients they will able to get on board. For the moment it is mainly Chinese clients, but given the pilot projects with BMW and Louis Vuitton, I hope they will be able to expand their synergies in Europe too. Particularly interesting will be this VeVid dapp that can be a solution for the KYC of financial companies and not only.

RE: Vechain (VEN) Thread
Summary of the Harvard meet-up with Sunny Lu

https://www.reddit.com/r/Vechain/comment..._sunny_lu/

More bullish than ever!

Quote:English White paper coming soon.

More than 200 projects and use cases in the pipeline.

Initial use-case deployment takes 4 months for 1st client. Deployments for future clients only take 3 days. VeChain is building a library for ecosystem evolution.

New luxury goods use case for big brand incoming

BMW announcement coming late April at Beijing Auto Expo

In three years, the public will be using VeChain every day and never even know. To say to my daughter, “Everything you do everyday—I was part of that” (tcp/ip analogy)

Moderated by Ted Breyer - Jim Breyer's son

85 people in six offices around the world.

We grow at crypto speed.

Sunny sharing about how evolution of blockchain indebted to Ethereum for what it opened up

But now what’s next

Problem with crypto is that there has been no real world applications with real value.

Room for all types of block chains private and public

Governance and Economic model are what matters.

He’s explaining value of the VeChain governance model for all important decisions. Votes but also steering committee. Blend of central and decentralized...

Dr Gu has spent over a year building the VeChain token model to create proper valuation

How to solve the problem where utilization causes high cost, but high cost discourages utilization. What to do? VeChain model to solve that with two coin system

He’s talking about some serious math related to stock valuation

He just gave a good analogy about two tokens. If you want to start a business you need an office. Maybe you buy office so you don’t pay rent. Or maybe you pay rent so you don’t buy office. Depends. That’s how two tokens works. Figure out what is best for you

White paper coming in English soon

We need more people in block chain industry

More than 200 projects and use cases in the pipeline

Blockchain core (highway)

Tools and services (gas stations)

Enterprises (cars)

Tokens (fuel)

VeVid is going to be essential if you wanna play big time with VeChain

KYC must happen. If you don’t like it sorry

It might take four months to develop a use case for one client. But then the deployment for the second client on that same app is three days. Building a library of apps and smart contracts for ecosystem evolution

We will be offering certified dApps certified by PWC and DNVGL to make our services more appealing to enterprise users. Taking testing and certification to a whole new level of professionalism and stability.

VECHAIN IS ONE OF THE ONLY TOP 20 COINS WITH A CFO!!! Company’s holding hundreds of millions in a crappy wallet. Enterprises don’t trust that stuff. VeChain offers a professional standard and enterprise governance to make our clients “feel like they are talking to a grownup and not a kid”.

Sunny can’t touch any VeChain wallets or coins. He follows the best practices of governance established by PWC

How many coins can say that

Governance

Regulation

Economic model

Infrastructure and tech

Manufactures

Distributors

Supply chain and logistics

Regulators

Retailers

Consumers

Forms the total collaborative environment.

New luxury good use case for big brand incoming (i won’t steal his thunder) But it’s been hinted at already in this channel today

BMW announcement coming later this month at big auto show

He’s presenting another auto use case that’s amazing related to the vechicle Passport program. Will be game changing for insurance, leases, etc.

We will be empowering consumers to make money from data sharing.

VeChain is an essential partner for DNVGL because we make it possible for DNVGL to trust the data that customers provide from their own IOT. (This is complex and I can’t type it all out now)

Formal presentation over. Q&A now.

SUNNY JUST SAID I WANT THE COMMUNITY TO KNOW WE HAVE THE BEST COMMUNITY IN CRYPTO. COMMUNITY SET UP HALF OF VECHAIN CLIENTS INCLUDING BELGIUM DUDE

Ethereum white paper was what gave sunny the confidence to quit his job and do crypto full time

What is the five year dream for VeChain?

Five years too long. I dream in three years.
In three years, the public will be using VeChain every day and never even know. To say to my daughter, “Everything you do everyday—I was part of that” (tcp/ip analogy)
Number one ground rule for hiring: passion for VeChain. People who can operate in teams

It’s more important to understand what TPS you need, not how much TPS you can produce.

Sunny got asked about Coca Cola kid: I don’t know who the guy is, and I really don’t understand the tweets

Sunny is sharing about the carbon bank. I would say that we shouldn’t expect anything anytime soon but that it is something being developed as a best in class example of what blockchain can do.
