'Backlash' is maybe too strong a term, but it could be a sign that normal people have had enough of the latest gun-control attempt here in La Belle Province. So props to Les Soeurs Boulay for putting this out there, no doubt aware of the risk they were taking (financially, artistically etc). In a place like QC, this is edgy.

The immigration system in Canada is actually a lot better than it might seem. There are 3 ethnicities that make up a large % of immigration, Filipinos, Indian and Chinese.

The Filipinos come mainly as low skilled workers or caretakers under LMIA work permits. LMIA is a labor market impact assessment that an employer must file to the government showing the effort they put into hiring Canadians but failing to do so. The process takes a few months and needs to be quite detailed.

Indians come in droves as students hoping to convert to permanent residents after graduating and working in Canada for a bit. It seems that the entire country is trying to leave for greener pastures. Before the USA was a top destination but now theyre all scared of big ol' Trump lol. Plus converting to PR after studying is difficult there. The skilled workers have an oppurtunity to come directly as PR but the main criteria nowadays require an advanced level of English, which only the top 10% of Indians might have..If the English requirement were any lower, Indian immigration would shoot to the moon.

Chinese also come as students, plus there is that contingency that come as investors and businessmen, albiet small. What limits Chinese immigration is their low level of English.

Now back to your question of why isnt there more diversity in immigration. It stems to the craze people have in coming to Canada. There are literally visa consultants on every block in India, catering mainly to Canada and Australia.

I doubt that craze exists in Europe and Latin America. It is picking up in Africa, but there are other factors involved there.

Now if people in France want to leave for greener pastures, away from Macron's army, its very possible, as language scores would not be an issue.

I feel like this English level of many Indians is greatly overestimated. Just because all of India wants to leave doesn't mean we willingly have to accept them all. There are 1.1 billion Indians and they could form the majority in every nation if they all immigrated to the west.

There is a desire in Eastern Europe and Latin America but we made immigration so hard for them to come. I know many people in Ukraine who would love to come here but immigration is big hurdle. The craze does't exist since we don't accept them unlike Indians where we accept them in droves.

This mass immigration of one ethnicity without assimilation has lasting effects on our culture. Since it is 'racist' to promote Canadian cultural onto immigrants, they have no desire to assimilate. All these Indian people (even ones who are 3rd generation) still practice many Indian cultural norms such as those multi-generational households and even gender abortions (they all want sons). Also it has resulted in so much nepotism. Heck the current leader of the NDP only got elected because he was the first Punjabi candidate running for party nomination and thousands of Indians registered for NDP membership just to vote for him (Mulclair was much more better leader than he was).

Your right about Filipinos and they actually make up the largest source of immigration now but they don't have such a large established base like the Chinese or Indian people.

Again I am not trying to bash Indian people but my observations come from spending time currently in a neighborhood in Toronto full of them. But I can feel the negative affects being a minority in their communities. I have seen Chinese people transform neighborhoods as well and nepotism in their communities. What I am saying is that we should limit immigration from China and India, and promote immigration from the rest of the world.

Bernier has some clear policy, plans, has some balls. I don't consider myself a libertarian, and his French accent does annoy me, but in the age of SJWs' and hate speech laws I'd like to see his partys' influence grow. 250K/year immigration is reasonable, although obviously still too high. In many cases he is the only one who will approach topics honestly.

Scheer has only done well in that Trudeau is a total fuckup. He got quite lucky with this scandal, but in October when the election is on, the scandal will be backdrop, not front and centre. Scheer won't make anything but safe moves, so he bends a knee to progressive BS, you can see it in his personality. The conservatives are a centrist social / slightly right economic policy party these days, with the libs and NDP on the far left.

With that in mind I say let the centrists elect him. He isn't courting my vote and that's ok.

I don't think 250k is too much as long as they are immigrants not "refugees", but it can't be 250k Chinamen it needs to be spread out a bit. Bring in some skilled Venezuelans and Europeans.

A friend of mine was a substitute teacher here for a couple years before he got full time work. He traveled to almost every school in every ethnic neighborhood and gave me a rundown how they go together. He himself is a gay half Korean/Chinese born in Canada.

- Filipinos from the Main St area. Their grades suck, attention span rare. Girls time was spent on nails and hair, guys dancing and playing basketball. Nicest kids though and very respectful. Do not send your kid there if you want good grades.

- West Side whites. Wealthy, clique, hard working and charming. But can be ruthless (girls) and the boys can be violent. Nice to your face, and very respectful. Send your kids there if you have the status and money to ensure your kid is not outcast.

- East Van First Nations from Hastings. Violent, hungry (said kids ate from vending machines), massive home problems, zero attendance. Counselors worked full time with most of them and class sizes were often 10 students. 20% graduate. Lots of drugs, booze and sex. Most girls had babies by grade 11 and dropped out. Do not send your kid there for any reason.

- South Vancouver Indians. Good students and good respect. The girls were very high achievers and the guys were smart but sometimes didn't care about much other than hockey or drinking. A good amount of violence. Send your kid there if they are tough and cool with Indians.

- South West Vancouver Chinese. Disciplined. Hard working. Respectful. Send your kids there if they like studying and clubs and are cool with this type of Chinese.

- East Van Chinese. Hard working, respectful. More thuggish and lots of drama between groups. Girls getting into it too. Lots of relationship drama, fights on weekends, drunken stupidity. Do not send your kids there unless its the Tech High School.

I could go on for a bit but you get the idea. Immigration of one core group fucks it up for the rest. Even the Chinese can't deal with each other. Spread the immigration out and make some room for people who can't afford to buy citizenship but have the necessary skills to make the points.

I'm working at a client in Suburban Toronto. Big private office in an office park, I'm guessing 200 people come into work there every day.

A buddy who works there shows me a picture of the Shitter. It has a paper towel with shit on it, on the ground. Apparently, there is at least one guy (suspected brown) who refuses to use toilet paper. He takes paper towel into the stall, shits, then wipes his ass with the paper towel and throws it on the ground. This has been going on for a year - every day!

We are figuring out how to do a sting and get the guy fucking fired. This is ridiculous. He must be some sort of untouchable caste.

I work with a brown guy there a lot, we were joking about his people, how terrible they are at low balling, how 10 of them will move into your house. As a brown guy, he is more aware than anyone how fucked up they are, and is open about it. Its when us whiteys assume there is a level of respect or honour in dealing with these people

I've met lots of cool brown people, but between my professional business dealings, meeting with potential tenants for a student house who were brown, and the shitting all over the place....they are quickly dropping to the bottom of my immigration list.

Canada today has roughly the same percentage of Sikhs in its population as India, about 1.5%. By the next decade we will have the higher percentage of Sikhs than India or any other country in the world...

Both you and scotian have brought up valid points. Why are we only bringing in only Sikhs? India has over 1000s ethnicities so why are we only bringing in only one kind?
