I was impressed with the story they broke this week about the apparently fraudulent loan for $440m that they made to a long-ago company in order to supposedly build a new upgrader:

Canada is well and truly fucked for the upcoming election, whatever the result.

Canada has not had a sustainable political calculus since Brian Mulroney. Given the demographics he was given, Stephen Harper did a fucking good job. Despite being elected three times, Harper's Conservatives nevertheless lost every election in a de facto landslide to leftwing parties (take the Liberal+NDP+Green vote and then halve the BQ vote and add to the previous total to conservatively estimate the number of leftwing BQ voters).

Three options are on the table:

a) Conservatives win with a mandate of 40% or less, with 1-2% more supporting Bernier. Country is nevertheless fucked because the majority of the country is not only against the Conservatives but for leftwing parties. Sans a Trump-style character, a personality Scheer is NOT, there's no stability with that kind of electoral noise and any rightward-leaning government (by Canadian standards) will be thrown out after one term.

b) Conservatives also win with a mandate of 40% or less, with 1-2% more supporting Bernier, but this time Scheer greets the noise by shifting to the left, making the idea of Conservative government a moot point ideologically.

c) Liberals win again and Canada is royally fucked.

Liberals+NDP+Greens = consistently 60% of voters polled.

Conservatives can only win through the flukey first-past-the-post system and even that's a long-shot. Conservative support is lopsided, tied up especially in Alberta and parts of Ontario and virtually non-existent in Quebec.

I've felt this way also and it looks like a sign we need change the culture around here if we want to unfuck ourselves in the long run.

How to do it in leftist areas though without socially/professionally ostracizing ourselves is the difficult question. I've found slowly drip feeding red pilled truths to friends/coworkers/family when opportunities come up in discussions/debates with a cool, 100% objective tone tends to at least be accepted without hysterical back argument and a bit of (probably/hopeful) cognitive dissonance afterwards.

That said, as successful as this may be on a micro scale, the forces of change against us are happening at a faster rate. Becoming more anti-fragile seems to be a prerequisite to be more outspoken and influential, though that also takes time to achieve. Totally need some radical ideas or a Trump catalyst here...

Quebec is always a wild card and difficult to predict, don’t be so sure that they won’t scoop up a few seats in Quebec after Scheer bent over for the dairy cartel. If I remember correctly, they voted in a record number of NDP MPs a few years back under Jack Layton as a huge fuck you to the Bloc Quebecois under Gilles Duceppe. That didn’t occur because they like the NDP, who have never done well there and certainly won’t under the turbaned Singh, it was a strategic vote that came out of left field.

One thing is for sure about the 2019 election: it will be a vote on Trudeau’s personality and style, not so much policy. His gaffes have been stacking up and scandals mounting, I think there’s a solid chance that he may be a one-term PM and deservedly so. If we kick Notley’s NDP out of Alberta this May (which we likely will), the Conservatives will pick up steam. As much as I don’t like his personality, Jason Kenny will be a major thorn in Trudeau’s side and his force combined with Doug Ford’s could show Canada a level of shit lordery never seen before, those two aren’t Joe Clark or Stockwell day types, they’re pit bulls. 2019 will be an interesting year in Canadian politics, there’s a lot on the line.

Quebec also just voted in a kind of conservative Provincial Government. So who knows which way they will go it will be interesting to watch. They are also very Nationalist (again provincially) so they are not fans of the open border policy.

I sort of like Kenny exactly because I think he will turn up the heat. I wouldn't doubt it if he spends a lot of time talking with Legault on Alberta / Quebec relations.

The run up to this election is looking like the track finals at the the Special Olympics.

Trudeau personally is grating on a lot of people and the Libs have been putting him front and centre for the media. There are some scandals in play and the policy I read about most is the carbon tax.

I don't know much about Scheer but he doesn't seem to be a wonderboy in the mold of either Harper or Trudeau. My understanding is that the CPC hasn't actually rolled out a policy platform.

The NDP haven't fielded a full slate of candidates yet and there is a chance that the leader might lose his by election. Traditionally, if that happens, the leader resigns and that would create all sorts of problems.

I was working at the Department of Justice until a couple of months ago. She instituted mandatory LGBTQ sensibility training, First Nations diversity training, women power training, and renamed all the meeting rooms of the Montreal office after First Nations name.

She also imposed feminist training for the judiciary and lobbied to stop the cross examination of alleged victims of sexual assault.

She was a disaster as AG and was always under qualified for the job, being a diversity hiring.

That cocksucker Gerry Butts quit today, seems a but fishy too since this whole SNC-Lavalin thing came about, it’s shaping up to be a Sponsorship Scandal aka Adscam (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sponsorship_scandal ) type event, this could be enough to sink the Liberals and make Trudeau a drama teacher again!

I never liked Butts, he betrayed his Scotian blue collar roots when he fucked off to upper Canada and went onto help the provincial Liberals of Ontario to fuck up their economy by waging war on heavy industry. He continued this trend at the federal level, after cancelling massive gas plant construction projects in Mississauga he saw that they were cancelled in BC (a 30 billion dollar project) and of course there’s the pipeline fuck ups.

I saw a meme going around on FB stating that the Quebec pension plan is heavily invested in SNC, who have major deals in Saudi Arabia, which is why they don’t want to have Alberta oil in eastern refineries. Fucking corrupt Quebec politicians and businesses fucking over Canada as usual, they’ve also given tons of money to Bombardier, who shifted production to Mexico.

I hope Canadians wake the fuck up to this blatant corruption, the Adscam scandal was enough to make me switch from Liberals to Tory back in 2006 when I voted for Harper for the first time, hopefully more will say fuck the Libranos, greasy fucks.
