Even more than that: rule 40(b) isn't about winning 8 states, but winning "the majority of delegates from 8 states" (per http://www.realclearpolitics.com/article...29012.html)

So the only way to do that is get over 50% of the vote in a state where delegates are split proportionally, or win one of the few (~13 or so?) states where it's winner-take-all. With so many names still in, getting 50% is tough; Trump is poised to do very well in winner-take-all states. Because the rules seems to say "States" specifically, it wouldn't matter if someone sweeps the territories (Puerto Rico, Marianas, etc.) as, from what I understand, Cruz is on top of all those territories. Caucuses are always a question mark.

I read that Washington Post article and it's assuring. I ran some math of my own the other day - earlier in this thread - and the flaws in the WP article I'd say are as follows:
-He assumes 30% everywhere when it's really more like 33-35%
-He's not differentiating for those states (which are many) which give delegates on a district basis; the top vote getter in a district gets 2 out of 3 delegates for that district which would result in a "35%" Trump getting a lot more than just 35% of the delegates in that state
-He downplays the possibility of Trump getting 50%+ of the vote in New York and thus winning all their delegates. It's his home state, after all, and with delegate numbers equivalent to Florida

Good assumption is he gets zero RNC super delegates and zero unpledged people which I assumed too, but yeah; math is looking better unless one of Cruz or Rubio drop out asap.
