Syrian military officials appeared to anticipate Thursday's night raid on Syria's Shayrat airbase, evacuating personnel and moving equipment ahead of the strike, according to an eyewitness to the strike.
Dozens of Tomahawk missiles struck the airbase near Homs damaging runways, towers and traffic control buildings, a local resident and human rights activist living near the airbase told ABC News via an interpreter.
Local residents say the Russian military had used the airbase in early 2016 but have since withdrawn their officers, so the base is now mainly operated by Syrian and Iranian military officers. There is also a hotel near the airport where Iranian officers have been staying, though it was not clear whether it was damaged.
Former National Security Adviser and ABC News contributor Richard Clarke said this attack, one of the quickest displays of force by a new president in recent history, is largely "symbolic."

I agree overall, but this is the line.
I did not vote for Trump because I wanted America to lead another regime change coalition. I could've voted for Yeb(!) or the hag for that.
Let the Middle East sort out its own problems. We need to stay the fuck out for once.

Quote:This morning, Arthur O. Sulzberger Jr. and Dean Baquet, the publisher and editor, respectively, of The New York Times, took it one step further in a letter emailed to subscribers. “Did Donald Trump’s sheer unconventionality lead us and other news outlets to underestimate his support among American voters?” they asked. Some subscribers may read that as just more excuse-making and not the plea for forgivenness they might have expected. But the letter also reflected the Times’ fear of losing all-important subscribers to its print and digital editions at a time of plummeting advertising revenue and challenges from online news venues.

Yes, they have their flaws, of course (were aginst us during Meetup outrage, Milo, some internal conflicts...), but still...they are a hundred times more credible than all the Opposition Media. The market (almost) never lies - they are more popular than any other Opposition Media outlet.Quote:One day after what was demonstrably one of the most-covered stories by the media focused on the “removal” of Steve Bannon, President Trump’s top adviser, from the National Security Council (NSC), he attended a council meeting, the Washington Examiner reported on Thursday.
“White House chief strategist Steve Bannon has attended the first meeting of the National Security Council after he was removed from the principals committee Wednesday,” the Examiner story said.

But if D. Trump is not the brave, efficient, intelligent, no-bullshit alpha man we all on this thread think he is, then, what hope is there for the Western world?
V. Putin can save Russia, and Asia will save itself (including its sick man, the Phils), but, as to the Western world, there is one single hope: D. Trump.
So we have no choice but remain on the Trump train and wait a few months more, and hopefully see how D. Trump's policies cure, reinforce and protect the USA and the Western civilization...
And if it turns out that his policies have no real effect, then it'll be all over in any case for the USA, and probably Canada and Western Europe. We'll see. Meanwhile, I personally remain optimist. Let's wait six months or one year and see how it all develops.
Actually, the Trump train analogy is very accurate: all of us and all of the Western world are on the Trump train. The train is running, fast, too fast to jump off (one would break his legs in the fall) it... So, we all hope this train runs towards a great and successful future and destination, and if not, we'll know soon enough. Too late for second-thoughts...
Note: concerning the 4 casualties at the airbase; it is indeed very unfortunate. Let's hope they were rogue Syrian officers or Iranian activists bearing some kind of responsibility in the gas attack?

I never "disavowed" Trump or mentioned any Jews and was very clear that we should disapprove but not panic or "jump off the Trump Train", so I don't know if I'm included in that, but I'd defend those who did because their outrage is fully justified.
We're talking about a public, clear, publicized, unprovoked launch of 50 tons of high explosive at a sovereign country after spending the last 4 years stressing that you'd never do such a thing. It's not people losing their minds over some random appointee comment or article quoting anonymous staffers or similar bullshit, but over tons of tangible explosives being hurled at a country across the world because - we were openly told - the President saw a photo of a strangled kid. There's nothing ambiguous here!
Do we really live in a world where 50 Tomahawk missiles hurled at a random country over a random piece of #fakenews is nothing to get worked over? Where chucking $100 million worth of weapons at one of Russia's allies is just an everyday event with nothing to worry about?
I'm starting to feel like I'm back in 2003!
