There's already a box to type in why you're reporting a post. I suspect most reports for posts in that particular thread typed in trolling or something.

Oh I have never used the reporting button before, so I assumed it was similar to the 'Like' button. I apologize.

RE: Request for clarification of moderator role
They say you can judge a man by his enemies more than by his friends. This thread was started a member who was warned for the following remarks:

(11-25-2014 12:09 PM)Phoenix Wrote:  I've said it before, and I'll say it again, if you're using a decimal point at any point in a description of a woman's attractiveness, there is a good chance that you're an idiot.

(08-29-2014 04:18 AM)Phoenix Wrote:  Not at all concerned with what or who you think this thread needs.

First one was my warning, second one was Roosh a warning. If the effect is "chilling," meaning you tone down your aggressive big-baller statements, then I'd say it did its job--which evidently it didn't in your case.

I knew from the first day, that because no good deed goes unpunished, being the hall monitor would automatically make me enemies. I've taken A LOT of shit over the years--certainly more than Roosh--on threads, random posts, through PM, on Twitter, and on outside websites having nothing to do with the RVF. All of this for little more than what amounts to the occasional thanks by PM from various members. That's it. With Roosh, you can conceivably say that it's "his house." With me, I take the role of the proxy; easier to try to take down or someone on whom you can try to say what you wish you could say to Roosh. When guys get the smackdown for it, they get even madder. I've accepted that massive cost in exchange for a continuance of a community that I value. I derive very little enjoyment from warning or banning dudes, contrary to your misreading of what the banning theme for newbie trolls was for. If you knew my real life, you'd realize this is the pettiest and least prestigious of my leadership roles--no disrespect to the forum.

Even with the rigged methodology of this "poll," I see that most people don't think my moderation efforts are "excessive." Though the sample isn't very representative. It'd be interesting to note where the highest value members stand, not johnny-come-latelys, members who have habitually danced on the troll line, or relatively long-standing members with very little rep.

Want less moderation? Then stop clicking on the "report" button so much.

I agree with this one, and to further expand on it, if you want less moderation then you have to stop snitching. The only posts I have reported were the credit card scams and really obvious troll posts.

The internet itself can't hurt you, and every time I get pissed off here I usually just fuck off and go do something IRL. Everybody has a right to an opinion even if it's poorly thought out.

Edit: Even then I voted that the moderation is just fine. While the poll is loaded, I don't think that Tuth or Roosh make decisions lightly.

RE: Request for clarification of moderator role
There's a report button?

I've had a couple of blow-ups on here, and I wondered why, when I normally have very flat affect. I suspect it's because I tended to stay away from social media and this site has made me more aware of things. As such, I've been working to let go of my anger over the last year.

Social media and current Journalism Construct is focused on getting people riled up and addicted to the chemicals in the brain that are released when you're pissed-off, so you end up crave being pissed-off and return.

You can talk about the education system, political-correctness and single mothers feminising men, but I see this as the main current threat to masculinity.

Men are being trained to have a heightened emotional response to what they read, and to react in an emotional manner. They are learning to react to stimulus the way a woman would. There's a huge component of men online who are now revelling in drama, and this is how maturity, stoicism and, particularly, the ability for men to talk through differences and find unity without throwing hissy-fits and encouraging schisms are becoming discouraged.

This is how men will become trained to put themselves and their feelings first, and men will eventually become as useless in a group as women.

If something on the internet pisses you off, sit back, close your eyes, breathe deeply and focus on your body to get outside of your head for a minute. I strongly-doubt the braindead opinion of a Female Typist is going to make any difference to your life when both you and her are going to be dead and buried in 50 years.

Take Lauren Messervey's attack on Roosh in the HuffPo:

Quote:In February of 2015, Roosh V proposed the decriminalization of rape on private property. His theory was rooted in the assertion that women would take better precautions and, "protect her body in the same manner that she protects her purse and smartphone." As a result, Roosh V claims that, "After several months of advertising this law throughout the land, rape would be virtually eliminated on the first day it is applied."

The woman in me was infuriated. The journalist in me was ecstatic.

She then demands this:

Quote:Do you believe that women, on a scientific level, are inferior to men?

Yeah, I could choose to get annoyed and irritated and go to her comments and prove my point, but you can't convince a narcissist of their inferiority, much like you can't convince a gender studies major of 110 IQ that they're not the intellectual elite.

So whilst I want to reply to her:

"Your inability to recognise obvious Juvenalian Satire reinforces that women, on a Journalistic level, are inferior to men, even when educated."

I don't bother.

If Gamergate really wanted to damage the sites it dislikes, all it has to do is stop repeatedly going to them to find drama to rebroadcast. It's probably half of Polygon's traffic.

Maybe this seems like inaction and passivity but I just think it's a damn sight healthier for my mental state, in the long run. If I see something stupid or inflammatory on here, I simply scroll past. I just expect others to scroll past me in the same manner.

The asian walks to the ledge and says, "This is for all my people" and jumps off the roof. Next, the mexican walks to the ledge and also says, "This is for all my people" and then he jumps off the roof. Next is the black guy's turn. The black guy walks to the ledge and says, "This is for all my people" and then throws the white guy off the roof.

RE: Request for clarification of moderator role
I'd just add that just about every poster in this thread has, at one point or another, laid down some insightful wisdom, solid game advice, revealed deep personal experience that offered me useful reflection or is just a damn funny bastard at times. There's also the possibility that the unfamiliar posters will do this in the future.

Maybe I don't always let people know they're respected or valued enough. I have trust and connectivity issues with those I'm unfamiliar with - my personal issues based upon my upbringing and psychological makeup - as I have a lot to lose if my identity is revealed. I'm working on conquering this fear. If I'm disconnected or seem uncommitted - that's nothing women haven't repeatedly told me, but, even when we butt heads or disagree, I still think you're all a bunch of great fellas.

I just don't say it cause Gay

I think my best advice I could offer is to be the positive change you want to see. If politics are pissing you off, head over to the newbie game thread and offer some advice.

Almost certainly not anonymous. I didn't vote and so didn't test this, but I'm assuming you can only vote once like in most polls where you have to be logged in to vote. This means the temporary table that holds the poll results also holds the usernames of those who have voted.

It's possible that the table stores these usernames in a way that is unassociated with the users' selections, but I wouldn't bank on that. So if you have direct SSH access to the database, you can easily do a "Select * from table 'Poll'" and so on. But this is all just Tinfoilhat

Not sucking up but Tuth is our best guy here pre mod and one of the guys. He's the kinda guy you'd switch a flight to spend an hour talking to in a airport bar or organic lounge sipping aloe water.

Roosh is also a celebrity in my eyes but I think after a hour he may not want to hang out with me but I'd probably tone my shit down to wing and anti cock block.

RE: Request for clarification of moderator role
A few things:

1. "Live and let live" is an excellent attitude in many contexts, but it is not effective in maintaining internet forums of consistently high quality that continue to attract the best posters and produce content that keeps readers coming back. An internet forum is like a house or a lawn, it needs to be kept clean and tidy -- but not sterile -- lest it become overgrown with weeds and overrun by insects, spiders, and critters of all shapes and sizes. It's all well to say, "if you don't like something, just ignore it" but that is not how it works.

If the race/politics/religion threads in particular were not aggressively monitored and moderated by Roosh and Tuth, they would metastasize and take over the forum, and it would become a very unpleasant place to be, driving the best posters and lurkers away and attracting ever more cranks and trolls, until the whole place became a worthless mess.

2. It is easy to pass judgment on specific moderation decisions, especially in the absence of complete information. But the results speak for themselves -- this forum has grown and expanded dramatically over time in terms of its themes, scope, readership, and number of active posters, all while sustaining a truly exceptional quality of contributions day in day out, and for a period which is an eternity in Internet years. Through all this, it has preserved a unique atmosphere which is both frank and civil -- one where men can disagree with each strongly, but without rancor.

Whatever anyone thinks Roosh and Tuth may get wrong -- and like everyone else, they are not perfect -- the track record of the forum over time shows they must be doing something fundamentally right. And for this they deserve our thanks and appreciation -- particularly Tuth, who, as he correctly notes, has the most thankless job of all.

3. I think the black and white calls to "clarify" forum rules to either outright prohibit all race/politics/religion threads or, conversely, to allow them to run rampant and unchecked, lack subtlety and miss the point. First, the rules are clear enough; they would not necessarily be improved by going into ever more detail. As Wittgenstein put it, all explanation must come to an end. More importantly, those who wish for an either/or resolution misunderstand the delicate balance I was talking about earlier. It is not right or natural to disallow intelligent and proud men to talk about whatever they want when they gather, as we do here; there can be no taboo subjects or "safe spaces", that is beneath our dignity. But that does not mean that endless political/religious/race trolling can be allowed, either. There is some judgment involved, and it is sometimes more art than science -- and that's as it should be. It's part of what makes this a great place. I am more than content with Roosh and Tuth making those judgment calls.

4. I think the report button has been unjustly maligned. It is there for a reason, and the reason is to help posters keep the RVF a better place. It should not be abused -- hitting the report button because you disagree with a post is trolling the moderators, and it is probably best to refrain from using it with respect to posts that are related to you personally -- your judgment may be clouded in that context. But if you see a post in a random thread which you have good reason believe is a troll post, then reporting it is just part of doing your civic duty. Again, easy to say that the trolls will weed themselves out, but that is not how it works -- in practice, that just means you are leaving the work to someone else. In short, the report button should be used sparingly and with good judgment, but it should not be permanently ignored.

5. In my opinion, this remains the single best place for men anywhere online. Let's appreciate it for what it is -- a great achievement sustained by years of hard work -- and help keep it that way.

same old shit, sixes and sevens Shaft...

And obviously the polling categories are causing some confusion but I think I can help this out.

In the order they are presented:

Too weak: Homosexual
Mildly weak: Pussy Pass
Just Right: Top that, motherfuckers!
Mildly excessive: Oppressive
Excessive: Patriarchal

Also, there was no category of 'Other'. But that would be: Trans-Pansexual

RE: Request for clarification of moderator role
Here is the result of my review:

Sp5

Starting controversial thread with a picture of dead bodies. His intent was clearly to relay his political agenda on immigration instead of share news with the community. His 7 day ban was warranted.

Disco_Volante

Poured gas on the thread: "I dont understand why people cant just admit civilizations founded on white christian values are superior and more desirable to live in." When introducing absolutes that focus on race or religion, I recommend a more diplomatic tone (e.g. "Christian values do tend to create more societally stable nations.") His 3 day ban may have been too light.

Zelcorpion

His postings, while controversial, were factual and well sourced. He lost his cool briefly and did attempt to bring calm back to the thread. Introducing the Jewish question did increase the thread's tension, but the video he sourced did speak for itself. His fault, as Tuthmosis mentioned in the warning, is participating too frequently in race/religious threads and becoming a single-purpose poster. I reduced the warning to a 1 day suspension of time served.

Blick Mang

"Call me cold or calloused, but I would sink every one of those boats to the bottom of the sea. Any boat that makes it to shore would be turned around with enough food and water for the return trip. "

This is a public forum. Do we want to be associated with statements that call for people drowning? 7 day ban is warranted.

sixsix

He was very heavy on the white nationalism talking points, and seemed to use the thread to unload all of his opinions on race, white culture, etc. instead of staying on topic. He definitely added flames to the thread. He could have slipped by with a 3 day suspension, but he did have a prior warning and his post count is relatively low, so I'm going to let Tuth's 7-day suspension on him stand.

Cunnilinguist

He was ready to attack Sp5 for his views and used the phrase "shabbos goys" in a manner to suggest that Sp5 is a gentile sell out (personal insult). He was given a 3 day warning. I'll let it stand.

Feisbook Control

Self identifying as a neoreactionary, a group that autistically attacks me because I don't white knight for whites, won't get you much sympathy from me. That said, I don't believe he crossed the line here into a warning that suspends his posting privileges (he was given a 3 day). So I have revoked it for time served (1 day).

I have also given a 3 day suspension to Phoenix for creating a poll to purposefully use public opinion to subvert the authority of the mod team. Starting the thread alone to relay his concerns would not have resulted in a suspension.

I have also given a 7-day suspension to Texas_tryhard for publicly calling for bans and attacking others. "Now I'm being aggressive again...but I think this time I'm actually justified." Unfortunately you are not justified in breaking forum rules.

Tuth is a battle-hardened veteran of the forum who has seen dozens of men try to hurt our community. It's a better place because of him, and I rather he be too hard than too light. The only issue is to ask ourselves how much "real talk" we want to allow here considering that our members comprise many different races and religions. While we don't want to black out those topics entirely, allowing discussion that is too open almost always leads to huge flame wars. As long as your opinions are well sourced, based on empirical experiences, non emotional, and not personally attacking others, you should not be crossing the line, but we do look at single-purpose posters who always seem to participate in race/religion threads.

We have a system in place where members can make mistakes and not get permanently banned, and it's through warnings that a member can find out where the line is. At the same time, I know that taking a posting suspension is not easy. You may feel angry or that the action against you is unjust. Therefore I ask Tuth to not use humorous animated gifs when warning or banning long-standing members, since it has the effect or rubbing in the suspension and makes it hard for the suspended user to save face.

In summary, I have lessened the penalties for 2 of the 7 individuals who were warned, a fair result considering the scope of the warnings given from the thread. Moderation is not an exact science, but I don't know anyone else who is more qualified than Tuth to help me do it. I thank him for his longstanding service.

RE: Request for clarification of moderator role
I would like to see a revival of the old thread where the moderators would record when a person was banned, whether it be temp or permanent with the reason for it. It would be nice to have more exact details about why a person was punished and if applicable, a link to the offending post should be provided. This would serve as an example (as well as a warning) about what sort of material is appropriate for this forum. This could be used the same way precedent cases are used in judicial system, X poster was banned in the past for saying such and such in a certain matter and if you wish to avoid his fate, then avoid making the sort of posts the poster was.
