It was only a matter of time really. If you're the type of guy that says " he only charged me 1-10 dollars extra, no big deal" Santa Marta will be great for you. But if you're the type of guy where the thought that he is trying to overcharge you just pisses you off and you daydream about shoving his face through a window. I would avoid Santa Marta. No one overcharged me but plenty tried. I think they feel you out first and when you give them that look , they back step.

My personal opinion is that even if you "dress down", you're a foreigner so they know you have money, at least more than they do, dressing down isn't going to change the fact that you had the money to travel to their country for vacation.

Unless you can really blend in with the locals, which most of us usually can't, just dressing down is a fake deterrent to reality.

Over thirty years of traveling throughout Latin America, several years living in a bad, or even really bad, area of one of the most dangerous U.S. cities and I've never been robbed, hit by a car, or struck by lightning. I have had plenty of things stolen from me. I just wasn't present when they were stolen.

This is pretty true. Despite being in Mexico 50 times, only once did something happen and that was because I left my wallet on top of an ATM and realized 20 minutes later.

Just did an overnight trip to Medellin.

Got to meet and hang out with Gringuito who is an amazing guy to spend time with. He has a lot of valuable business experience and tonnes of funny party stories. Really cool guy and completely legit as to the info he has dropped on the forum.

Met up with Newgame, really cool chill guy who is doing very well down here, for lunch and then partied with both him and Gringuito later that night. It's been one hell of a past two months. I've met some awesome guys here from the forum which is why I joined here in the first place. Thanks to them for putting up with some of the crazy shit they've seen me do.

Looks like I'm going to be rolling here in Cali solo for another month. It's not unreasonable for an American man in his early 30s to have accumulated 54k cash even if he isn't a corporate slave.

Linux has said he was in the military, ran a gym for a bit, and has some sort of job in the USA where he makes up to 40 k per year. If he saved 4-5 k per year since he was 20, he could have enough. Heck, maybe he saved half of that and got a modest inheritance from an Aunt or something.

Point being, buying a decent place in Colombia is well within the reach of the average American male, and is not some rich dude 1%er thing.

If you start working at 23 and you're making a paltry 40k a year then you should have that type of cash saved up easily by 30. That's just saving in the bank and not even investments.
