A shmuckus - Poland is still superior to all Western countries due to balanced gender ratios, more feminine and humble women.

Sure it's not 2006-2009 anymore because back then the population boom from the 1980s created a huge amount of 18-24 girls going through their party years. Those girls now are older and more bitter if they are not married.

There is now less of those girls and the women do tend to get a bit more Westernized. BUT as examples of NYC have proven - gender ratios in the prime target group are king to hammer down an uppity hamster. I see that a lot of people on this forum love to look at our wallets and judge our wealth. Well, so maybe i will tell my story. I didn't even finish high school. I work in Wrocław as an operator of welding machine in Polish company hiring 30 people. We produce mechanical and optical parts, mainly for industrial customers from the West. I earn after 5 years of work up to 1000 euro net. My salary after working 160 hours is 3200 zł net (800 euro). It is enough for me to work in 3 saturdays to earn much more than 1000 euro. I was beginning from 1700 zł 5 years ago. My friends in warehouse take usually 1900-2200 zł netto (circa 500 euro).

I worked in Sweden on ships for almost 3 years. It was enough for me to save enough money to buy here my own 1 room apartment not far away from the center of the city. Property prices are averagely 5x lower here than in Western countries. It is much easier for a Pole to move out to the UK, work even for 8 GBP / hour, live in the same apartment with many friends (to pay possibly not much for rent) and it is pretty possible to save enough money to buy beautiful new 2 room apartment in Poland after 5 years of work. Most of my friends do it to avoid manipulating themselves into loan banks.

I earn averagly 3500 zł, i spend on electricity, water, trashbin, gas and internet circa 300 zł / month. If i wanted to save money on food, i could eat everyday in bar near my workplace - 10 zł for whole plate of potato, meat and salad. If i was really poor, i could eat in bar mleczny and pay for the same 7 zł. If i really wanted to save money - buying cheap food and eating in cheap restaurants - i could save every month at least 2000 zł. But i save only 1000 zł because i like good and expensive (on Polish standards) food in restaurant in the center of the city

I had a car but crushed it while driving drunk, they took away my driver licence, hence i take taxi very often. Circa 30 zł for 12 km from my workplace to home.

Show me a physical worker in the West without even high school education who can afford eating in restaurants in the center of the city almost everyday and take taxi to come back to home, please

Now story of my family. My mommy is a cleaner, my daddy works as a "stróż" (nightwatch) in university. My mommy earns 1600 zł net, my daddy earns over 2000 zł net (because he has big "staż pracy" - he worked a lot of years and accordingly to law he is given bonus raisings - his job is public, not private). But it doesn't really matter because they have over 400.000 zł of debt. They were taking a lot of loans in 90s, then one of them lost job and they took new loans to pay old ones - and that's how they fell into spiral of debt. Komornik (debtcollector) takes away their salaries - but he can't take all - he must leave them minimal salary on bank account (1300 zł / person). My mom works also "na czarno" (outside tax sphere) to fool komornik and earn money on side. They don't have their own apartment, they were given "mieszkanie komunalne" from city. Their rent is silly low, like 300 zł. City does fixing for free if something is broken. This new apartment that they were given looks better than my apartment that i bought Komornik (debtcollector) can't take away this apratment from them because apartment is officially a property of the city. They buy things like new TV sets, refigerators on my surname - so officially everything they have in apartment is my property. That's why komornik can kiss their ass. Two minimal salaries are enough for them to live normally and they even spend vacations in Croatia once a year.

Of course, we have a lot of poor people in the country: bums, alcoholics, homeless. But i don't think that their number per capita is much bigger than in the West. I also know that we have regions in the country with high unemployment that are fucked up - for example Silesia that suffers from destruction of mine-industry. But generally, i wouldn't really say that Poland is _much poorer_ than the West. If you take into consideration cost of life, prices, taxes, cheap property and so on and so on, differences in purchase power ain't so big anymore and they used to be 10 or 20 years ago.

And yes, it is true that simple workers in shops, Biedronka, Żabka, this kind of shit, earn usually half of it (350-400 euro). Anyway, i have a friend here in Wrocław who works in McDonalds, and he was given a raising from 10 zł net / hour to 12 zł net / hour after 4 months of work. I also know people in Biedronka, who earn sum that is closer to 500 euro / month, but they are workes who worked few years.

And yes, it is true that GUS doesn't count salaries of so called "microcompanies" - companies that hire less than 9 people. Anyway, this kind of business is usually a family business. They love to hide income in order to pay possibly smallest taxes. And most of people hired in these companies are family members of owners. Anyway, i never saw anybody having his own small business who would be poor. These people drive good cars and have their own houses usually. Even owners of small shops. At least here in Wrocław.

A lot of these "microcompanies" are for example farms in Eastern Poland. But they hire mainly Ukrainians nowadays, they collect strawberries and do farming work for really shitty money, like 3 zł / hour or something. But their country is so poor that they agree on it anyway.

Been lurking this forum for over a year but just wanted to say how grateful I am I found this site for leading me to Poland. It seems a lot of the information on Poland here has transformed over the years giving the impression that Poland isn't what it used to be and that the degradation is starting to set in. Even though my stay was short lived I think I'm more than enough convinced that my time in the UK is coming to an end and want to research possibly moving to either Wroclaw, Poznan or even Lublin. If you are from EU is it just as easy as renting a place over there and moving over? Or is there anything I need to apply for etc... I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this sorta thing.

Also does anyone have any experience in the property market over there? I'd be interested to know any details regarding buying property from abroad and if there's any legalities and specifics I should know before looking into it.

Since I only stayed for a short while I'll say what I can, suppose it gives me an outlet to vent some of my thoughts on it.

So abit of backstory aside from my fulltime job I'm an athlete and performer just on the side for fun. I went to Lublin to perform in a 4 day long event called the "Carnival", it's the one time of the year where Lublin probably takes centre stage in Poland, I saw this event advertised during my stay in Warsaw and one of the girls I went on a date with also said it was advertised quite widely in Krakov, so needless to say a lot of people from outside Lublin come for this. Since it's only 1 time of the year I'll give a brief overview of it before going into anything else:

Lublin's town centre is called the Old Town and during the Carnival it is FULL of people, you will struggle to get around it's that crowded (book your shit well in advance). There are circus acts and performances going on all through the 4 days, most performers doing impromptu stuff on the street, others are properly scheduled in certain areas of the city. For game this means you can quite easily approach groups of girls in the street as and when you please, they are in no rush to go anywhere and are there just to aimlessly walk about. For me the DHV drop of me telling and showing girls I performed there was huge, it's a big thing to them which is funny cause often girls in the UK don't give 2 shits about this sorta stuff so it was really refreshing to get so much praise for being good at my hobbies.

Anyway I digress. There are approx 5 universities in Lublin and because I didn't go during term time I can't vouch for what it's like during this period. The girls I spoke to say there are more foreigners around during that time but I suspect there must be just as many hot young Polish girls as they also said Lublin nightlife really only comes alive during term time. I didn't experience nightlife I just went about my business in the Old Town and approached girls with a simple "hi do you speak english" opener, this was mainly because I feel english proficiency over there is quite low, I got that feeling as soon as I arrived and started eating out at restaurants where the waitresses could barely understand me and it was only more so confirmed when I started approaching.

This isn't too much a problem though because once you find a girl that has even a working knowledge of English she will mostly likely me intrigued as to why you are there, being a third tier city with a population between 300-400k and so-so transport links (I took the Polski bus from Warsaw to get there) foreigners don't frequent it often. So once conversation is established the second thing to take into account is the conservative mentality they have, they will most likely start probing you for a relationship if they are single. So if you aren't there for long, you lie, obvious I know but I got an instant date with one girl I approached and even though all was well and I made out with her by the end of it she would not meet me again because I slipped up and she found out I was leaving in the next week.

I got a ONS with the friend of a girl I had approached the day before (there was some heavy pre-selection shit going on there), while we were all out to dinner one night. I got rid of the one I was originally with and her friend offered to walk me home since I had a lot to drink, but then again so did she so she didn't decline my offer to come up to my place when we walked by. The regret she had after it though, holy shit, so I think I got away with murder on this one, I'll say a ONS is possible but don't come here expecting it.

If you come here try get a place near the Old Town, I used AirBNB and there was some nice modern apartments you can get at fair prices, then just daygame in the streets, it was a lot of good fun. It's worth repeating that this is small city life. I was only there for almost 2 weeks and after a few days I was already walking through town saying hi to people I'd already met. Don't come here if you don't like that, it can be good if you social proof yourself early and get a decent network going but it can be bad if you mess up and your mistakes start gradually catching up on you. Because I'm familiar with small cities I don't use online dating as it can be a hindrance as much as an aid, girls you could easily score in person you might mess up with online, and chances are you would've run into them at one point or another (just my 2 cents on that).

A lot of what you said is true.

Yes, Poles are a weird bunch, mostly the men and older generation. They are very against immigration, yet they load up the Sinbad buses and immigrate abroad. They don't assimilate into the country, but they create their own little communities and do work cleaning toilets, picking strawberries, and doing repairs. It's okay for them to invade other countries, but not ok for others to do the same to their country. Weird concept, but it is what it is. Polish people have benefited a lot from the EU, yet they give very little. Oh, another funny one. If a Polish person says something negative about Poland it's okay. However, if a foreigner says the exact same thing, all the Polish people get patriotic and start the "Polska is the best" non-sense.

It's very easy to get a job in Warsaw or another big city if you speak good English. There are more than enough international companies looking for foreign workers that were educated abroad. If you're a native English speaker it's a major bonus, as lots of companies prefer that over someone that speaks broken English sounding like Borat's half cousin when dealing with clients abroad.

As for the girls, you can easily find a good one without any of these so called "handicaps". Polish girls are not looking foreign guy necessarily, but the guys in Poland are awful, that when a foreign guy that's cultured comes along it's an easy choice for them. For a comparison, Polish guys in Poland are what UK girls are in the UK. They have little to offer, so you can see the dilemma Polish girls have, the same as the UK lads. A lot of Polish guys don't really realize this, that's the best part. However, if there is a good looking Polish guy with game, he is top of the food chain, it's hard to top these guys. Since these are very rare, you have nothing to worry about. Think about this like English football, you're a Premier League player and your competition is basically players from League one and two. Even if you're not Premiership material, being Championship material is enough to get girls.

Anyway, NewMeta, if you're serious about it go try it at least a half year, that's the minimum to know if it's for you. Some people find the culture rather dull, the food shitty, the people boring to talk to, or little to nothing to do and don't like it. For me, I lived there for over a year, and the above didn't bother me. I had an internet business which generated enough income to live a higher end lifestyle in Poland. I wasn't there to make friends, I was there to game. End Result: I found a girl to take me out of the game for now.

Even if it wasn't for the girls, it would still be a sweet deal if you are getting paid a foreign salary.

For example. I live here and get paid around 18,000zl per month into my polish bank account. I have a registered company here and somehow i managed to only pay 8% tax per month. Then another 1000zl for social insurance and healthcare or whatever they are called (ZUS / US).
My cost of living is fuck all. My apartment is above the market square and is 1500zl per month. Internet is included. All I have to pay for is my phone bill which is 30zl per month and my gym membership which is 100zl per month.
So basically I am left with 14,500zl per month to feed myself and do whatever i want.

Previously I lived in the UK, Norway and Australia. There I would burn through that money pretty fast. But here, it is impossible not to save a big chunk of money every month.

Sure it is hard to find local friends. But you just go on facebook and find a expat group from the city you are in. Usually there are a couple of cool people who want to go out for beers.

So, apart from not having my mates around, it doesn't really make sense to live anywhere else atm.

Fuck that's so nice, gets me excited just thinking about it. My cost of living is also really low and I make about 8,500zl per month after tax which I still somehow go through damn quick over here in the UK. Over there though, seems I'd be living like a king.

Since you brought up tax though am I right in assuming I would still be paying UK tax rates if the company I work for is UK based? Don't really care either way just curious, also thanks for mentioning social insurance and healthcare, since healthcare is free over here I totally forgot that would be something I'd have to look into as well.

Well. The way I do it is, I got my work to take me on as an interdependent contractor.
So I just write them an invoice and they pay me the flat sum of money into my polish back account and its up to me to sort out all the taxes n shit.
You need to have a registered business and a VAT number. But it's Poland, I'm sure you could easily figure out a way to get paid without doing that and avoid paying taxes here.
The only down side is that no money goes into your retirement fund.

If you are getting paid from a British company into your British bank account and paying British taxes, I think you just have to keep on doing that.
BUT
Every country has some rule where if you spend more than x amount of day (usually around 90-100) outside of the country, then you don't have to pay tax to that country.
But I don't know if that means its tax free or you would have to pay the ridiculously low tax rate of Poland.

Nice thats a really smart way you've gone about it. I just need to pitch this idea to my boss somehow haha.

Edit: If I don't manage to do that my bank charges £22 for transfers of up to £2000 when making payments to foreign accounts so even that isn't too bad a trade off all in all.

Most of your information is very similiar to my experience when I visit my family in Poland. Poland in general has a lower standard of living than western countries, but it is still an acceptable standard.

But not everything is true as you say it.

1) If you work as a industrial welder / operator of a welding machine in Germany with more than 5 years working experience you would easily earn 2500€ Net or even more (most welders are in very good labour unions as IG Metal and earn a lot). What you would then spend on food and accommondation varies a lot in which city you live but 600€ for a small flat and eating every day in a normal restaraunt will be around 12 € * 30 = 360 €, so would still have more than 1100€ you could spent on whatever you want. So despite the maybe cheaper real estate there is not so much difference.

You also should remind that the health and social security system (imagine you have an car accident while driving drunk and are not able to work as a welder any more) is way worse than in western european countries.

2) Also I remember that there is a huge difference in Poland on costs of living depending on the city you live at. You can not compare your costs of living in Wroclaw (a former industrial city, now more a student city) to Warszaw, Krakow or Poznan. There you will probably pay a lot more for rent or real estate and food restaurants.

3) I have heard some rumors that the gap between rich and poor in Poland is increasing. Therefore the hottest polish woman go more for the very rich guys instead of the "average joe" earning his 2700 Zloty Netto

so i met a 'wing' in krakow; unfortunately it's some british 'pua' clown who does 'workshops'... there certainly seem to be a lot of these self-proclaimed pua around ripping people out of their money.

So if gaming wasn't the number one priority (#2) and sight seeing was #1, which major city would you guys recommend?

Being a history guy I really enjoyed Warsaw. Tons of museums and monuments due to the cities very tragic history. You really get a feel for what Poland went through over the past 100 years and how it spite of it all, the nation survived. I did the history shit during daytime and partied at night and it was a blast. Probably not the best place to game in Poland but it can be fun.

I have yet to see Krakow but it was highly recommended to me by friends.

I see / hear so much stuff like this coming out of Krakow.
Leads me to believe that Krakow must be overrun by foreigners trying to get one night stands with traditional girls.
Which makes me think that they are all probably sick of foreigners trying to get into their pants and their perception of foreigners on holiday here have probably changed. Especially with all the girls telling each other things like "ohhh Magda once went on a date with an English man, they slept together and then he never spoke to her again".


You guys need to stick to the smaller cities. Where having hair, not wearing a tapout shirt and a bum-bag is the equivalent of driving around in a Ferrari.
The only downside is that the level of English proficiency is a lot lower.

This situation will go on till the beginning of September. Historically, July and August are the worst months in Krakow in terms of nightlife, due to the british touristic flow and the lack of students.
Summer tourists are probably happy to dance all nights surrounded by themselves and a few british/american girls.
