Only the US is a semi-success. We have to realize that Ghostbusters is a massively recognizable brand. Also they pumped 100 mio. + into marketing.

There is not much competition in that area for now and the SJWs and feminists are more numerous than we thought. Maybe all the aging women are going to watch the movie to feel better for 2 hours at least.

But the true catastrophy is in the foreign markets. Even in Singapore where they went full retard with a KKK-like crowd and all the stars went there for the premiere - they made just 740.000$ - that is nothing.

Usually in our times many movies make more in foreign markets than in the US - sometimes 2 times more. Ghostbusters would have had the potential, but feminism and SJW memes are much less tolerated overseas. Also the viewership is more Red Pill, so starring older fatter women in an action movie is just nuts.

The US might reach 100 mio. $, the foreign market 40 mio. $ at the most. So essentially Sony is looking at a loss of 150 mio. +. It would be highly risky for them to produce the entire franchise and the Slimer spinoff. The brand has to be rebooted again after the people have forgotten about the Cuntbusters.

In terms of a flop you can't look at it as just a single film's standalone budget.

Sony and Feig fucked up the branding and marketability of an entire franchise.

This means Ghostbusters as a franchise is likely done for a long time until they can reboot it again. This is easily over a billion in lost revenue from sequels, merchandising, etc..

Even if this film does eke out a profit the damage done is severe. Usually after a mediocre franchise start the audiences dry up for any sequels. See: Amazing Spiderman which ironically Sony fucked up too.

Anytime a studio fucks up a known brand like this it's disastrous. Just think about how long it took for them to make another Batman after Joel Schumacher pooped all over it in the 90's. The Sony leaks revealed how SJW executives took over the studio portion in the U.S. and the Japanese and other financiers were wholely ignorant. They slid all their chips into the hands of a feminazi head named Amy Pascal.

Sony had to broker a special deal with Marvel studios to reboot Spiderman so it could ride the wave of the rest of the Marvel studios movies. That's how much the U.S. Sony branch sucks. They couldn't even do anything with a very well known brand..unlike Fox which spun a very successful franchise out of X-men.

Sony also greenlit "The interview" which was a Seth Rogan/James Franco pet project which couldn't even be released properly. It was a huge waste of money.

I like reading about this Hollywood business shit because in many ways it's the weather vane as to how far the degeneracy has or will spread in pop culture. It's not just show biz related it has a broader effect on U.S. and sometimes global culture.

On Saturdays the station does reruns/recaps of the past week, so I'll be listening to try and catch it again.

Funny part is, that station usually has a few options for prizes. And the movie tickets are usually just for the theatre, not for a specific movie (unless it's an early screening).

The fact that there were no other options for the caller (who didn't want them) is mind blowing.

Terminator Genisys wound up making - $440,603,537 at the cinema over a $155 million production budget (add in ~$155 million for marketing to ~$310mil overall).
Yet was considered a dud, is doubtful to get a sequel, which the main female star, Emilia Clarke, is not interested in doing either way.

Warcraft made $432,237,160 on a $160mil production budget (guess ~$300mil with marketing) & there are reports Warcraft is still $15mil in the red due to it's particular deals & so forth.

Then if either of these two movies does get a direct sequel, it will only be due to the Chinese market.
TG earned $113,175,898 in China.
WC earned $220,841,090 in China.

GuntBusters misses out on the Chinese market & has to contend with Star Trek, Ice Age, Bourne & Suicide Squad in the following weeks.

Theater gets half + 100 mill in marketing, I am not even including all the crap they spent on toys and what not.

They need 400mill world wide to break even. Anytime a big movie does not do well, you have directors/producers and a guy from the studio coming out and saying "all we need is this much" to get our money back. The same thing happened with Watchmen and John Carter. what happened to those "franchises"?

Occasionally you get a complete clusterfuck like fantastic 4 where its impossible to save face.

Its similar to when a tv show is not doing well, and the show runner plus someone from the network comes out and says "we are not worried at all, we are only concentrating on the show and not the ratings", soon after that same show is cut to only 12-17 episodes and then pushed to summer and then never heard from again.

Fuck this reboot horseshit. Just make Ghostbusters 3 properly, have the old guard pass the torch. I don't even care if it half women squad, just do the 1980's franchise justice and do it within that storyline.

Ghostbusters has been out for one week, made 80M worldwide, but only 20M from outside of the usa, sucks for them.

In this day and age where big movies regularly pull 100 mil plus on their opening weekends (Deadpool, mentioned in this thread, did 130 in its first weekend...while costing a third to make and being an R rating), 75 million in its first WEEK is approaching flop territory.


200 million worldwide is the likely neighborhood, which is about half what the movie needs to break even.
