However, if Sony announced they were going to reboot Ghostbusters again.
This time doing it 'properly'.
Ironically despite the disliking for the constant reboots of other franchises, I'd imagine most would be happy for another GB reboot.

The verdict is in, and Ghostbusters 2016 was a box office flop; estimated to have lost between $25-70 million. There won't be any sequels and Sony is allegedly laying off many of the employees who were responsible for this monstrosity making it into theaters:

This movie could have been avoided if Bill Murray wasn't such a prima donna and a prick about not doing Ghostbusters 3. Yes, he's funny and has done funny movies but he also has an ego. There was also the time he had a falling out with Harold Ramis during the making of Groundhog Day and they never spoke since. Yet, he'll also do the Garfield live action films and their sequels so figure that one out.

Apparently, the original four returned to do the 2009 Ghostbusters video game and they all had to record their lines separately due to tensions. Even Dan Aykroyd said the game is the third film that we're never going to get. The plot managed to connect parts 1 and 2 altogether through various nods.

I didn't bother to see it, but most of my poker buddies liked it. I remember reading about a leak that Bill Murray was contractually obliged to star in the next Ghostbusters or else they would pursue legal action against him.

At least in the remake, Bill got what he wanted to have his character die off. I remember when Ghostbusters 3 was in development hell and Bill stated he'd star in it if Peter died in the first 10 minutes and came back as a ghost.

The remake could've been the third film with the Ghostbusters out of business for a while and the team for the remake gets mentored by Ray, Peter and Winston to revive the business.

Please - blaming Bill Murray for it is just unnecessary. Murray was always the rather non-mainstream fellow. Ghostbusters without Murray would have worked as well - they would have just needed another popular comedian. The franchise was strong enough after part 2.

The video game company which developed the Ghostbusters game went bust as soon as the game was released. They put all their eggs into that basket and hoped that it would do well.

Also - the movie lost at least 70-100 mio. $. A loss of 25mio.$ might have encouraged them to do a sequel with a predominantly male cast and Chris Pratt as the hero.

The losses may have been bigger.

It cost them 144 mio. plus at least 70 mio. in marketing, it may have been also 100 mio.

The studio gest roughly 50% of ticket sales of the 229 mio. meaning 115 mio.$ - maybe 125 mio. $. They did a lot of product placements and certainly got a few million out of that, but at best 15-20mio. $. They lost 100 mio. $ I think - that is why it is such a disaster.

Mattel tried to claim that the toy line was selling well - then put them on clearance a few weeks later. Pretty sure they were lucky to break even.

Moral of the story is that SJWs will rally around films sight-unseen based on casting-quota thinking. I'm sure out of those who defended the film before its release, some finally realized it wasn't worth putting on a pedestal, and the rest are too proud to admit the film sucked and was at parts actually sexist as well (like the gratuitous queef joke).

But that's kind of how entertainment has devolved. Actually enjoying a film based on its true merit no longer matters matters. People just want to use the topicality and name-recognition of a media event to get on social-media and beat their chests.

Nah, Bill has a level of standards about the work he does and we should be glad of that.

He also doesn't have an agent, and the (possibly fake, but still fun) story about Garfield is that when a dude left a message on his answering machine about doing a movie "written by Joel Cohen", Murray heard it as "Joel Coen" of the Coen Bros and immediately agreed.

Clearly, this feminist agenda pushing bullshit was the wrong way to go, and has become essentially a black eye on the franchise. They should have done GB3 as a animated movie. Hell, they could have just used the story line and voice work from the 2009 Video game, which would have allowed Harold Ramis to posthumously return as Egon, and if something needed to be added, insert a voice sound-alike.

Considering Bill Murray did the video game, he might have participated in something like that.

He also shot 4 dance routines - one giant ones where all the cops danced - all 4 were cut, because no one except a few gays wanted to see them.

Amy Pascal was fired over this. Hiring a feminist producer who wanted to produce a superhero movie called THE GLASS CEILINGS - that it the biggest problem. Sony is already in the danger zone and could soon be sold, because no company can afford to make 1 bio. $ losses each year.





This movie tarnished the careers of multiple people including Melissa McCarthy since she started insulting the core target audience of the movie by claiming, that if you don't like it, then you should get out of your mom's basement more often.

They learned a bit from it for the Wonder Woman flic and the Rogue One where they cut entire feminist scenes, but of course not completely.

They will wait until they can shove that stupid shit down our throats because feminism and social justice is their madness of the day.

A good point about the idea possibly working without Bill Murray, but his reluctance to join in didn't help. But without Ramis either . . . nah.

Nah.

She was fired because of the Sony leaks and because of the "racist" messages she sent. She stepped down in May 2015 while Fembusters was only released in July 2016.
