How's the water in the Seattle area?
If it's dirty, do the hawks hunt closer or further away from the city.

Someone look into this.

RE: Super Bowl XLVIII
You can write up all the 5000 word posts you want but if you believe Russ is a game manager you don't know football, period, you just have no clue. When guys who have defined the position of qb are in awe of the gifts/intangibles/smarts/arm/feet of this kid are laughing at the notion hes a game manager you better believe you're talking out of your ass. At this point if you're not seeing it, it's only because you have a reason for not wanting to see it. In the upcoming years as the big contracts start to pour in for the young talent and the hawks dont have the embarrassment of riches they currently possess he will likely need to start putting up gaudier numbers and thats when you fantasy stat guys will come around but make no mistake about he was always capable of it just didn't need it, yesterdays game should've shown you that. Hes played some of the nastiest ds in the league all year when faced with a d that shut down brady and rivers but well below what hes used to seeing week in week out he was moving the ball effortlessly, barely bothered, if you dont think he could've gone for 300+ and 4+ scores you're crazy, he didn't for the simple reason that the game was in hand but again he was capable. Every win this year, every 1, every signature win that led to the ultimate signature moment of holding that lombardi had a Russ handprint all over it. A game manager doesn't influence and change games the way Russ does.

and Matthew Stafford.

Clearly not in the same category as Mike frickin Glennon. Stafford's a great QB.

Fine, I'll give him credit for that accomplishment despite his having a relatively weak past couple of seasons. Take Stafford out and replace him with Matt Cassel, Ryan Tannehill or a multitude of others.

Either way my point stands.

RE: Super Bowl XLVIII
People don't watch football. You have a bunch of airhead folks in here whom just look at box scores and big plays, hence the Wilson hate.

Wilson playing on third down was enough to give him MVP. He was extending drives at critical points all game, it was impressive to watch.

Zero turnovers for Wilson and he exposed the weak points of Denver's secondary all game long. Wilson zero'd in on Champ Bailey on middle rolls that Champ's slow ass couldn't keep up with.

Right now Wilson is in the same boat as Brady and Big Ben after their 2nd seasons and he shares the same upside as both of them. I agree 100% with @mikey, the average football fan isn't watching football, they just watch stats for fantasy reasons. Even the "talking heads" on TV are idiots and can barley see it, only high IQ football guys are seeing what Wilson is doing, the dude has skill. He is basically Joe Thiesmenn, Doug Flutie, and Aaron Rodgers rolled into one.. that's scary shit. This guy is still a kid in the game and still has a lot to learn.

I will say though Wilson has only one minor flaw that is glaring and obvious, but see but haters don't even notice it because they don't watch the games.Wilson has a baseball windup when he is about to shoot bombs down the field. It's minor, but it does cause him to take one extra step to set his throw and that adds on X amount of split-seconds, but it's clear the receiving units timing all takes that into account because timing is still in sync with it. That is just a mechanical flaw but it could be fixed in a off-season or two.

Wow, the Wilson jock-sniffers are comparing him to an elite talent like Aaron Rodgers now? In what universe is this comparison valid? The mediocre Seattle passing game led by Wilson has merely been along for the ride all year as the defense, special teams, and running game carried that team to a SB win.

And no, I don't just pay attention to stats, I've probably watched 10-12 Seattle games over the past 2 years. It's a pretty good sample size to reach a conclusion that Wilson is a slightly above-average QB with limited upside who does a good job playing within his means and let the defense win the games.

This is all complete BS and plenty of evidence has been given in this thread to make that clear, but I'll leave you to it if it makes you feel better. Your conclusions regarding Wilson clearly have no rational basis, and therefore cannot be reasoned away.

Broncos got stomped. As a total football newb, I was more impressed by the Seahawks QB performance. Every hard pass he threw connected. Manning started throwing into nothingness after a while. Broncos sucked, Manning sucked too after enough frustration.

One thing I gotta say about the Super Bowl is that it had some of the best officiating I have seen in a major professional sport. It was amazing how many small things the refs caught the players doing, and then called them out on it.

I'm going to miss this heavily when the World Cup rolls around this summer. That is undoubtedly the worst officiating of any major sporting event IMO.

RE: Super Bowl XLVIII
Wilson got it back together at the right time. You can't deny that he was struggling the last couple weeks of the season, and against NO in that first playoff game @SEA.

Main reason I picked SEA in this game was because it looked like he regained some of that regular season consistency in the game vs. San Fran (especially in that 2nd half) Also, San Fran's offensive line couldn't give Kaep more than 2 secs of protection in that NFC Championship game, so what did we expect against a Broncos offense who has the most immobile QB in the league?

I doubt anyone was expecting a blowout, but Denver had a lot more problems than just the secondary. Peyton was getting no protection for most of that game, and it was the reason he had to resort to those 5 yd drag routes vs those 15-25 yd crossing patterns all game long.

Super Bowl XLVIII Believed to have been Rigged and Currently Under Investigation by NFL
[Image: Screen-Shot-2014-02-02-at-10.54.31-PM.png]
EAST RUTHERFORD – After The Seattle Seahawks victory over the Denver Broncos at the NFL’s 48th Super Bowl with a final score of 43-8, NFL officials have just discovered that the game was most likely rigged. NFL officials have just found clues that might prove the game was rigged. Officials believe the Broncos intentionally lost the championship in exchange for a large amount of money.

Super Bowl referee Terry McAulay told reporters he sensed something strange when he overhead Broncos Quarterback Peyton Manning allegedly asking Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll “When are you going to pay up?”. McAulay immediately became suspicious and notified other officials and that’s when it all started. The NFL is currently investigating the situation and looking for evidence to prove the game was rigged. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told reporters “This is like that Chicago White Sox scandal back in 1919, I can’t believe this, they ruined the sport, I just can’t believe it”.

However, NFL officials do not think every player on both teams were in on the deal, but only certain players in both team, If evidence is found that the game was rigged, those players will be heavily fined and suspended for a very long period of time if not banned from playing professional Football for the rest of their lives.

Well after the last superbowl the seahawks made it to this shouldn't be a surprise. I guess it's just karma after they started throwing flags for no reason 8 years ago when the "wrong team" was winning early.

RE: Super Bowl XLVIII
fwiw my take on Wilson re. the Superbowl:

Denver came in with a solid run defense. The only guy they couldn't stop on the ground was Percy Harvin. Lynch didn't have a horrible game but other than his touchdown it was not spectacular. But Wilson and his receiving corps tore apart the Denver secondary, making key plays at all the right times.

Denver's offense played so poorly and Seattle's defense so well that, with 20/20 hindsight, it's easy to say any other decent quarterback in the league would have likely won the game. But there was no way to know that going in. At any moment the Seahawks fortunes might have changed. An untimely injury or a few lucky plays for Denver and suddenly every point counts. Wilson went up against one of the better defenses in the league for the Superbowl and played a phenomenal game. There's really no doubt about it he deserves lots of credit for the win.

Yeah, that was horrendous. The bias was painfully obvious from the start.

Nothing is worse than the World Cup though, and even worse, FIFA is reluctant to do much about it. They say it's "part of the game."

Pretty pathetic considering that the WC only occurs once every four years.

RE: Super Bowl XLVIII
All I will say is I expected much more out of Peyton. The game was such a trainwreck.

One of the reasons I think the media is running with the Seahawk's defensive superiority -- not that the unit didn't earn the victory -- is that the Bronco's play was so bad and unexpected it shocked everybody.

From the first play, I was astounded at the poor planning, bad throws from Peyton, the utter inability of his receivers to get open and his offensive line's poor play. It truly was the biggest letdown ever in my Superbowl memory. After Harvin's return TD, it was like the Bronco's conceded the game. Fuck that Bronco's punt in the 3rd. You play to win, not hope your defense can get a stop with a measly 20 yard cushion. Put the ball in Peyton's hands.

I have always admired Peyton -- his work ethic, he's a Republican and a family man -- but this game really soured me on him. The damn 49er's had the Seahawks on the ropes IN Seattle. Kaep had less receivers around him on Seahawk home turf. Peyton wasn't even in this one. Russell Wilson basically slept-walk through this one because he destroyed the Bronco's secondary on just 25 throws and let the defense do the rest of the work. WTF did the Bronco's do the past two weeks? Wilson lit them up like a Christmas tree and the defense limited Peyton Manning to eight points.

What a bizarre turn of events.

I don't think this is coincidence.

Quote:Funny thing is if you look at the stats without watching the game, it looks like Peyton played reasonably well. But nobody watching play by play thought that Manning was anything near his normal accuracy, strength or overall performance.

True. Advanced stats and efficiency stats bear this out, though. Manning wasn't even remotely close to his usual output. Wilson, meanwhile, had one of the best games of the season maybe even of his career.

Game Summary

If you watched the game, you probably remember Manning throwing lots of completions for "not quite enough" yardage, failing to get first downs or good field position. One way this shows up in stats is in Average Yards Per Attempt (AYPA).

Manning's Superbowl AYPA: 3.8 (season: 7.0)
Wilson's Superbowl AYPA: 8.2 (season: 6.0)

Also, you can see that 280 yards is not that much for Manning, in fact it's his 4th lowest yardage total of the season.

Good point. Quick google shows 1999 Rams are #10 and the only SB winner in top 10. Reading an interview with Richard Sherman, it sounded like they just did their homework on Peyton. If Peyton had changed up his game plan, Seattle would've been screwed, at least until the half. Incidentally, I think this is what NE did in their first meeting.

I'm a Denver fan and still in shock. With a safety 12 seconds in, I knew it was going to be a rough game. The thing is we knew the D has big weaknesses, but they played OK and made some good stops, especially early on. The special teams totally fell apart and Orlando Franklin got owned by the D line, and Peyton, well he played the way he plays when the game plan falls apart. It's like these guys thought the game was supposed to be on Monday.

Suckiest thing is that they get lousy draft position and no ring. And these guys are old, they need a great draft this year to do anything next year.

I was worried all along, because in 05 the cowher/bettis retiring saga made the NFL "give it" to the Steelers. And if Manning had come out and said at some point that he was retiring at the end of the season, I am certain Godell and his goons must have ensured a broncos win.

But it's not "hating" to say that I don't share your lofty opinion of Wilson, and to say that I don't see that same future for him that you do. I never said he sucks.

One thing I've learned in 25+ years of watching pro ball is to predict when a QB will rise to the cream of the crop after a few seasons. I haven't been wrong in the last decade. And I won't be wrong about Russ.

I don't think it's condescending to say that after watching for a few more seasons you'll develop that same skill. You'll come to realize it isn't all about stats. There are some intangibles. An it factor.

Honesty I don't hate Russ at all. I hope I'm wrong. In every picture of the guy he's either at a children's hospital or hanging out with his dogs or his family. From all accounts he seems like a great guy.

I'm shocked they "went for it" on 4th and 2 at the end of the 1st half when they couldn't move the ball all half. They could have kicked a field goal and made it 22-3. It's still was a 3 score game either way, but psychologically you cannot let your team go into the half getting blanked. Incredibly bone-headed mistake by Coach Fox.
