RE: Hugo Chavez Dead
I disagree that Chavez was "Anti-American" or "Anti-Imperialistic".

Yes, he was "Anti-USA" in his words, in his rethoric. Chavez was a great showman, a quite unique charismatic entertainer who seduced the masses over and over again.

But there is a difference between his show, his words on stage, and the actual background of things.

His "Socialism of XXI Century" was financed with US dollars acquired through very steady and intense trade with the USA.

During the rule of Chavez, trade with the USA actually INCREASED.

- The USA alone is responsible for 56% of Venezuela's net income from exports and is the country's Nr.1 partner! (the percentage would be even higher if their oil output wouldn't have decreased due to gross mismanagement of the state oil company).

- The USA is also the origin of a steadily increasing share of Venezuela's imports (now over 30%), making it, again, the Nr.1 trading partner of the country!

Don't be fooled by speech:

Confrontation, grandiose rethorics and a Manichean split of the world between Good and Evil, oppressors and oppressed, is essential for this political agenda and for clinging to power.

But, in reality, the bogeyman USA is the very source that feeds the "revolution".

Without close relations with the USA, there would be no "Anti-Imperialistic" show.

And none of the new friends (Iran, Russia, Belarus, Cuba, Ecuador etc etc), alone or all put together, could provide comparable funding for the heroical struggle of grandiloquent, empty words and finance the handouts for the poor and the enrichment of the new local clepto-populist elite.

Paz couldn't catch him, although he tried his hardest.

Herol Graham was an amazing defensive fighter.

Which is part of the reason that Julian Jackson KO was so devastating. And well, it was devastating.

That was such a great era of boxing. Endless spectacular fighters. Many of whom would be household names if they fought today.

Lol. Come on man. No one can just inject cancer into you. Its not possible. The funny thing is that thats what Chavez has believed all along, that US CIA agents caused his cancer. My theory is that he caused it by drinking all that coffee since he was born. He said in an interview years ago that he drank 30 cups of coffee a day.

Ok, doctor.

Why don't you inject yourself with live cancer cells right now and get back to us in six months and tell us how it went.

You should have no problem with this since, "it's not possible", right?

It is great having a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine on the forum with an expertise in cancer research.

Where did you study? University of Illinois?

@GM: Im just going by logic. There is no way live cancer cells can be injected onto someone and having them get cancer, there is no research needed to understand that logic. Or maybe I just know a little bit more about cancer than the average person since Im a survivor myself (10 month remission). We all have cancer cells in our body or should I say regular cells but they die everyday and form new cells, cancer cells do not die and grow rapidly in our bodies. I also dont believe there are "live cancer cells" that you can inject yourself with. If I get injected with cancer cells tomorrow, nothing will happen to me, those cells will probably die out the next day as you need very huge amounts of toxins and drugs to damage them in order for them to rapidly divide and cause tumors. Im not claming to be an expert, but I know my fair share on this subject because I had to learn a little bit of it. Im also not a huge fan of conspiracy theories.

Like I said.

Put your health where your mouth is.

Do it now.

And report back to us in 6 months.

You can inject yourself with cancer cells and survive. Depends on your immune system and the quantity of cells you inject. Cancer cells multiply rapidly, so as long as you destroy them faster than what they are produced you are fine.
For this to work it would need to be as a transplant and lots of science involved here. Probably normal "cancer cells" from a john doe would wither quite fast, because the body would immediately recognize it as a strange body.

However, it would be stupid to inject someone with cancer. If something like this were to happen, it would be "better" to put some radioactive material on his bed/desk/chair, and it would be more than enough, and there would be no physical evidence.

Without oil Chavez would not exist. He came to power at the right time. Without oil he would have gone nowhere.

If you want to be popular and eventually become a president, do 2 things:

1. Make sure to make some poor folks happy, give them bread and a toy, then do whatever you want. Corruption, etc. won't be matter of importance.
2. invent an enemy to define yourself and your program (AKA "be populist")

You can do this whole:

"Without ______, ____ would not exist" thing with almost everything.

Without Hollywood, Ronald Reagan would not exist.
Without idiots, George Bush would not exist.
Without stupid rednecks and dorks, Fox News would not exist.
Without male cheerleaders and closet homosexuals, the Republican Party would not exist.

See how easy that is?

The point is that _____ did exist.

RE: Hugo Chavez Dead

A quick 7 min run-down on Chavez and his years in office from a critical view - I appreciate Abby's take on the end when she points out that being an enemy of Chavez means your down to be enslaved and a whore to the Status Quo.

I am working on the White Paper noted in the piece but just some titbits as I go along:

* 92% of the workforce is employed, via the private sector at a rate of 75%
-"REAL" Unemployment is at 36%; USA "REAL" Unemployment is at 41%

* 71% of Men of 15+ are employed in Venezuela in comparison to only 57% in America.

* Its Debt is at 32% to GDP; USA: 101% to GDP

The man in his years performed better economically, and run a more open and fluid Democracy in America. No errors on his part are unique, he fucked up a ton but that is expected when you’re in power for over 10 years. Over the past few days the same 4-5 stigma to negative attack him have been recycled, nobody takes a critical stance or offers how he could of done things differently because they understand they look like fools if they try to play armchair QB. Like I have said let his critics jot down how they would of run the nation differently given the exact same circumstances. America does worse to its own people and it would be good for them and the rest of the world if they finally took the time to notice it.

Then if any American's need more red pill jammed down their throat of how everything they THINK is real is all bullshit. Watch now how you’re being fleeced like sheep and don't even know it. In time the rich will steal all of American's wealth so that they will be eating dirt like the people of Venezuela were doing 15 years ago.

I can't hate on a man whom tried to fight that.

Chavez and his $2 Billion?
And the stat that he is worth $2 Billion. I am having trouble finding any verification of it. It stemmed for a think tank called: CRIMINAL JUSTICE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATES LLC which has offices in VA, and Miami. Its run by a guy named Jerry Brewer whom has counter-terrorism and intelligence backgrounds and can speak Spanish.

Here is Jerry Brewer's piece on Chavez from 2011 in which he writes a loaded piece with no sources, well except for the few Wikipedia Articles he sourced. This guy can't even get cash to run a legit website, nor have any legit sources and the MSM Media reported his words as truth....

I would get thrown out of school for handing in trash like that but 'respected' outlets like the NYT or CNN will source him....

THINK...

He has no published record on his archives of him typing those very words in which his group is sourced for providing, and the interview of him on Univsion on this matter does not appear to be up any more.

Maybe you folks still like to cling onto lies but I dismiss that claim as complete bullshit. Nobody can produce a raw source to it it’s all "he said ... she said"

But hey what do I know, the news would never be scripted, or lies to us... I got to trust everything they tell me because it’s just right, and I got to hate on a man whom has never done nothing wrong to me just because it’s the right thing to do.

The news tells you to jump… You jump… They tell you to fall... You fall.

RIP Chavez. A Man is measured in retrospect once he is gone for how many people's lives he helped and changed the monuments he built with his effort, and the children he brought and raised into the world. We as men will be measured more in are death then life, how will you be remembered? Will you have millions morning you, as well as many enemies whom did not like how you were not a conformist?

Tyrants don't fill the streets when they die. Mussolini was hanged in a public square, and not many showed up to mourn Hitler, when you are ‘truly’ hated nobody will give you the honour of respecting you on your last ride on your way away from earth.

A Man whom has built monuments in his life and has given people a chance fills the streets:

Claiming he was a hated tyrant is a insult the the Venezuelan people. Whom voted him in 4 times with 70% margin with 80% of the populace showing up. Claiming these things against him shows your ignorance not theirs.

Chavez was Red pill and a ally against the Status Quo and conformity. He was fighting against the things all Men should. He took on the Father role of a broken nation and did his best to raise it how he saw fit. He commanded the nation like his home but like any home he ran it to ensure stability and respect.
Though not perfect he ran his nation as any sensible Man would try and run his home and family.
Though not perfect you put the best effort with what resources you have to make sure you can stabilize and grow your family. Chavez did no different, and you would have done no different placed in his shoes as a real independent Man, I can assure you that.

RIP.

Sorry man but those numbers sound cooked to me. Now I've heard people say that the US unemployment rate is perhaps double the official figure by liberal estimates when you factor in people who have given up looking for work, but I've never in my life heard anyone say the "real" figure is 5x the official figure. You'll have to produce some solid evidence of that. As for Venezuela's "low" unemployment rate, you may also want to note that Cuba has a low unemployment rate of less than 2%, however the average wage is $20 a month. Of course you can have full employment if everyone is living off less than a dollar a day! Unemployment rates mean nothing unless you are also looking at the average worker's income.

Quote:* Its Debt is at 32% to GDP; USA: 101% to GDP

Are you aware that Venezuela's debt increased by nearly 5-fold under Chavez?

Quote:The man in his years performed better economically, and run a more open and fluid Democracy in America.

Yeah, if you happened to be on his good side. There were essentially NO checks and balances on his power. The article I list at bottom makes a good point, he was essentially an elected autocrat. We just had a thread in the forum about whether autocracy is the most effective form of government. Apparently this is what Chavez believed. You sound like one of his fan boys.

Are you aware that inequality has been falling across Latin America in general and that Venezuela was just part of a larger trend? Brazil and Peru have even more impressive numbers on closing the inequality gap and they are 100% capitalist. Sorry, I'm not impressed with Chavez and this notion that only communism is the solution.

That was quite some hagiography there. Take a look at this article. It's neither right-wing or left-wing but just presents the facts as they are: http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/03/...e-details/

People who support Chavez are doing so for nothing but purely emotional reasons and I see nothing red pill about that. It's no different than women voting for Obama because he makes them "feel good" or something. When you look purely at the results, Chavez was a FAILURE. Maybe a visionary, maybe charismatic, maybe even well-intentioned but he was incompetent and there's not much to show for it.

Spot on. Politics of emotions is what is at stake. It's all beta, emotional, hysteria when we look at what happened (and happens) in venezuela. Chavez played on the people's emotions. Whati is nicer than giving something to the poor? None of the 80% you make happy will analyze or criticize your rotten and corrupt administration. Your hairdresser might become your surgeon, and vice versa, it all gets fucked up. Wrong people at the wrong jobs, economical disaster. It happened in Argentina with an emotional alike, called Eva Peron.

It's all abot emotions, not about management.

Don't cry for Chavez like most brainless people do. Both Eva Peron and Chavez died of cancer, adding up to emotional hysteria when they got burried. Nothing logical going on here.

Hopefully there is more competent people out there to give a better future to their country.

RE: Hugo Chavez Dead
My two cents on Venezuelan "democracy" and "investment climate".

Concrete example:

An acquaintance of mine ran, with his associates, a well-known, very traditional Venezuelan company that offered financial services in the local retail market.

All their financial products were legal and approved by the Central Bank and related authorities, even during the rule of Chavez.

One morning, Mr. Giordani, who was and still is Venezuela's minister of finances asked for these guys to be arrested.

Mr. Giordani, and later El Comandante himself, shouted on TV the two main accusations: these guys were responsible for the country's inflation (!?!?) and their financial products were illegal.

So, the company was closed down by force and all of its assets were confiscated. The personal assets of these guys were also partly confiscated and partly frozen.

And even the non-profit cultural foundation, then autonomous but originally funded by the company, had all of its works of art confiscated (Chavez stole the national art gallery as well, but that's another story) and was closed down.

My acquaintance and his associates spent 3 years in jail. Their direct families fled the country.

NO FORMAL CHARGES were ever brought against them however, but they were kept in jail anyway.

Their lawyers showed a video in which the minister praised the very same financial products that he later claimed were illegal. They also found a similar positive recommendation in a book the minister had written not long before the case.

The claim that these guys were the source of the country's inflation, well, that was indeed very easy to prove false.

The thorough auditing of the company undertaken by the authorites also didn't produce any evidence of illegalities, tax evasion, or rules that were broken. Thus El Comandante had nothing to use against them, except his famous confrontational hate speech against the enemies of the nation.

In the meantime, these guys remained in jail and appealed to the court for their release (remember no charges were ever brought against them, it was all TV circus and the only concrete fact was the theft of property/assets).

But everytime the judge who was in charge was asked to pronounce himself about their fate, he resigned from the case entirely.

3 consecutive judges resigned claiming health problems, retirement, whatever.

Because if they would have actually judged the case, they would have had to free these guys immediately (and open the way for their money to be given back).

And freeing "enemies of the people" would cost a judge his head in the Venezuela of Chavez.

It didn't matter these guys did not break the law and that no charges were ever pressed against them and that all of their assets had either been confiscated of frozen. The Comandante had spoken and that's it.

But these guys have obviously good lawyers and they appealed to international forums, including some UN organization. Some international organization, I don't remember which exactly, I think it was a UN commission of human rights, agreed these guys had been unfairly arrested and demanded the government to release them.

And that's when El Comandante made a decision, supposedly in order to avoid an international embarassment for the country.

After 3 years of illegal detention, without charges, and nothing ever proved against them, they were released under the following conditions:

- They'd be put under house arrest indefinitely (they still are as we speak).
- No confiscated assets were to be given back, including personal property.
- Property that was frozen, remains frozen.
- No contact with the press, otherwise they'll be sent straight back to jail.

So, if El Comandante is your hero and you really believe his speech you might conclude the following:

- These guys are enemies of the people because they were rich and, worst of all, they were independent and did not embrace the heroic goals of the revolution.

- These guys were capitalists. And capitalism is the devil.

- These guys are from the elite. Although nothing was ever proved against them and they paid their taxes and had a clean record, they don't have to break any laws because, no matter what, they're criminals by definition.

- If you belong to the non-revolutionary elite you're personally responsible for the misery of the poor people, no matter what.

- Thus the new revolutionary society is morally entitled to take revenge on you, personally, and confiscate your property, close down your business, arrest you indefinitely and present you on TV as a public enemy. Again, having a clean record is irrelevant.

- Yeah, the poor are doing great with their handouts, as in several other South American countries. Chavez is a hero!

RIP.

Big upset.

The Chavez haters (ie alpha haters) got smacked around on this thread.

RE: Hugo Chavez Dead
Politics aside, if we just look at the objective metrics of the Venezuelan economy, crime, business growth, etc., he was a failure. He was well-liked by the poor because he gave out dole money.

Its not that simple.

He was well liked because he was the first Venezuelan leader to actually acknowledge the lower classes, the mestizo and Afro Venezuelan population: their existence and aspirations for a better life in a society that is extremely classist and racist. - however misguided his collectivist/communist/ideology may be.

Just giving lip service to these issues ensured his massive popularity - the dole is icing on the cake.

sometimes people want to feel that they matter and not be looked down upon or ignored and they appreciate a leader who acknowledges them.

This explains the popularity of most of the other Latin American leaders who don't come from the traditional Euro elite and are actually trying to address the issues affecting the
largely mixed, inidigenous, Afro populations who live essentially second class status. - Lula-Roussef in Brazil, Evo in Bolivia etc.....

You have it switched. Dole ensured popularity, the fiery speeches were the icing that gave them pride.

This doesn't actually work outside of movies. In the real world trying to assassinate someone by giving them cancer with radiation is like trying to give someone a cancer with second hand smoke. You can give someone a near fatal dose of radiation and that will just somewhat increase their cancer risk. Exposure to high levels over a time period is guaranteed to ruin your health in numerous ways but still not at all guaranteed to give you cancer. And if you do develop cancer it's in no way guaranteed to kill you - radiation can only start the mutations that lead to cancerous growth, it has no influence at all on the severity of the disease.

So, for example Marie Curie who made her house so radioactive that no one will go near her kitchen tools without a protective suit today actually developed a ton of radiation related conditions and died of anemia caused by radiation exposure but she probably never had cancer. Radiation is a killer but the cancer stuff is mostly just hysteric myth.

In any case, the Cold War is over and despite all the speeches the guy kept the oil flowing which is all Washington really wants. There's no obvious benefit to killing him as the next guy is not likely to be any more favourable but if something went wrong getting agents caught trying to kill a head of state would be absolutely disastrous. Public figures tend to only get assassinated by crazy radicals, if you want to see state agencies murder someone you're much better off checking unexplained deaths of no-name nuclear scientists working in countries with secret weapons programs.

For completeness - here's a recent piece about the Chavez family's wealth. Semana is a very credible news source.
