It will be interesting to see how Venezuela turns out now. Continue Chavez's policies? Will their be a power vacuum? A lot of former Venezuelans and Expats will try to regain their influence in the country.

Not sure about prices but gas is veeeery cheap there.Taking a cab is the most common mean of transportation

I have a good feeling the answer is yes, and that it always has been, but too damn dangerous and a pain in the ass. Even exchanging money, you have to buy it off the black market if you want a good exchange. I've been wanting to go. I have a good connection there. My buddy used to play professional basketball out there and recently hosted a surf competition. He invited me out before I went to Colombia and I really wanted to go, until I saw the tickets were $1500 one way. I couldn't bring myself to pay that. He always raves about the women though. I suspect the country is going to need 5-10 years to deal with the violence and fucked up problems it has. But I'm hoping for positive change. Just about anyone has to be better than Chavez.

I heard very mixed things about him so I will not profess my opinion but I'll say that he was one of the few leaders that tried to fight against the status quo of the world and he was seen by many, even outside his country as a guide.

I read a good biography about him that was written by two Venezuelans and eventually translated into English. It paints a picture of a guy who was marginally attached to socialist ideas, but was really more concerned with power.
