I'm a Rousey fan, but I saw the Holm fight as a "typical liberated bar slut" vs. a midwestern religious girl, and I'm glad Holly won. Holly seems like a genuinely good person who is just here to fight.

But more than that this is a huge blow to women's MMA. The reason it was as popular as it was is because you had one girl cleaning up her division like no one had ever done. While I'd argue that she was a badass at it and impressed me, she wasn't this ultimate dominator like she was hyped to be. Anderson Silva's reign was more impressive in a lot of ways, and so was BJ Penn's, so was Renzo Gracie's, and so was GSP's based on the talent these guys faced.

Fans act like the women's divisions are as stacked as the men's and it's just as impressive to dominate them, but it's not. People forget that the hype was starting to get to Ronda and she started believing she could be some kind of role model who knew what was best for people. The girl is a fighter. She's a great fighter, but she isn't a once in a lifetime thing. And no one could have known that until tonight.

Holm deserves it more. She stuck to her style and made Ronda look like a god damn amateur with that boxing.

You MMA fans are a bit difficult.

The one's saying she is the best are new fans to the sport that know zero about it.

Men's MMA has had Olympic Gold Medallists Judoka's handled with ease. Ronda is in a division of 30 ranked opponents. 30 in the entire planet! There are egg and spoon races with more competitors.

Ronda has Judo and that's it. In a mens division if she walked straight forwards, hands down with no defence she would be knocked out in every single fight she has had. She's a hack.

The media, the fans and everyone who would listen claimed nonsense that she would beat men, Mayweather, male MMA fighters etc etc. We even got fed the line that she was "The greatest athlete ever".

Anyone saying she was anything but a hack was either a shill or clueless on the sport. Finally she versus someone who can implement basic lateral movement and a simple jab and guess what? She's out cold.

Those saying "She's the best" aren't MMA fans. They're noobs and shills.

Rhonda tried to get into Holm's face and starting trying to get all uppity when Holm refused to be intimidated. In the interview right after weighing in she goes on some rant about Holm's "fake nice girl act". The whole time Holm keeps calm and doesn't snipe back at Rhonda.

Day of the fight Holm offers to touch gloves before the fight gets underway and Rousey rebuffs her.

Makes this so much more satisfying



EDIT: Also forgot to mention that Rhonda got in a cheap shot right after the horn went off for the end of the 1st round.

I guess that's what happens when you take your eye off the ball. Ronda was too busy riding her own hype train and basking in the spotlight to work on her head movement it seems. It was virtually static the whole fight. Also, whilst the head kick was great, Holm absolutely embarrassed her throughout the fight. Her movement, her footwork and the strikes themselves. Ronda had no answer for any of it. Great fight. Can't wait for the rematch.

I'm no fan of UFC, MMA or whatever people like to call it but when people start to say some woman can take men on is not in this reality. So all fights will be conducted with a ref, non-hard surface and rules?

To convince women that all you need is UFC training and an ability to arm bar to take a man on is dangerous. Its like telling your daughter it is ok to walk home through dangerous areas at night.

I don't understand something. On the one hand society tells us it's wrong to ever hit a woman. On the other, it promotes women's fighting, even after studies have shown women's bodies are more fragile and they're more prone to injury.

So on the one hand, it's OK to show women beating the shit out of each other, but on the other if you shove your girlfriend out of the way, you do jail time.

We are a confused, hypocritical society. It's no wonder kids in college are all over the place emotionally. We send them mixed signals and then expect them to deal with it.

Exactly, if someone hasn't trained their opinions aren't worth shit. Unfortunately on social media everybody considers themselves an expert.

It's extremely annoying when I see the guy who just signed up to our MMA school about a month ago make comments acting like he's an expert and all his non-training facebook friends are in awe of his 'knowledge'. The same guy who's getting smashed daily.

At least he's training, I'll give him that so his opinion is worth more than someone who's never stepped foot at the mat. But unfortunately we now live in the culture where people lack critical thinking skills and just go along with the crowd. That guy who took one class says Rhonda's the best, of course she is!
