I watched Solaris (2002) again recently.

Lush with a laconic, absorbing quality and a love story that seduces you. As long as you like aesthetics and don't need to have everything explained, it's worth a go.

Stars George Clooney, directed by Steven Soderbergh.

The electronic, slow-moving soundtrack stood out.

Tee Dub I wasn't that impressed with the Dawn of the Apes. The first one with Franco was a lot better! It wasn't a bad movie but I expected more.

I enjoyed that movie. I understood it like a story about the golden generation, millennials and the new one, gen y. For example gen y had overpowered women, a CS bro and competent fighter. They behave like kids and cant do anything right (they even get captured). The movie made me watch the previous ones.

The plot is one giant mindfuck, especially the ending. You will not be disappointed.

I recently watched science fiction film Coherence. It takes place during a dinner party. There's a comet that passes overhead, power goes out, phone screens start cracking, weird shit happens. One of the party guests finds a box with photos of all of them inside of it and it gets stranger from there. It has an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. Anyone into weird movies or sci-fi should check it out. It's not out on DVD but you can get it on Amazon instant or probably itunes as well.

Is there a Russian edition of movies nowadays without such scenes?

That is a huge problem nowadays as Hollywood continues its hand at social engineering and trying to force such vile bilge down the public's throat. I find it just as distasteful. I refuse to knowingly watch any movie with a homosexual theme or scenes, but Hollywood always seem to sneak one in.

Just rewatched "Scent of a Woman". That final speech stirs something in me every fucking time. I think that every boy going into college should be made to watch that movie, and especially made to understand that speech.

I'm sure it's been brought up in this thread already but I just watched Tombstone and it is the fucking balls. Never thought much of Val Kilmer before but that performance was virtuoso.

Tombstone is one of my favorite "modern" westerns, along with Unforgiven. Val Kilmer is a very underrated actor. Watch him play Jim Morrison in "The Doors." I am a huge Doors fan and I have watched a great deal of Jim Morrison footage. Kilmer really nailed that part.

Watched this based off your recommendation, it was a really engaging film that made me anxious the whole time. I'll second your recommendation for sure, and would suggest viewers go into it blind without watching the trailer.

I watched this film Chef a couple of weeks ago. I think I might have seen it discussed somewhere on the forum but I did a search through this thread and didn't see it. It's a movie by Jon Favreau (Swingers) about a professional chef who has a bit of a midlife crisis and finds himself blah blah blah. It sounds really cliche, and to be honest it is. Yet the characters are likeable, it's got some mouthwatering food porn, a good soundtrack, and it's just an enjoyable, light-hearted flick. It's also got Sofia Vergara, who makes Scarlet Johannsen look ugly for 1.5 hours.

The last movie that I can remember that made me anxious and sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time was "Unthinkable." The pace of that movie was unrelenting and it was also psychologically unnerving.

A great "what would I do in that situation" movie.

I'm really high on Exam. It's a British psychological thriller that takes place in one room. Kind of like, survivor, but with a test, in a 500 sqft room, with a test proctor called the invigilator. Go for it, you wont be disappointed.

Just ordered it. Looks interesting.

I can recommend a movie that I recently viewed by one of my favorite directors (Ridley Scott) titled "The Counselor." It has an all-star cast, including Brad Pitt in a supporting role and the same female-duo from Vanilla Sky (Cameron Diaz and Penelope Cruz). If you liked "No Country For Old Men" you will enjoy this film (same author).

Just watched The Equalizer, the new Denzel Washington movie.

Denzel befriends a young prostitute (girl from Kick-Ass) who is severely beaten by the Russian mob. Denzel decides to take matters into his 60-year-old hands.

They tried to make Denzel's character into an interesting person by showing that he reads books like The Old Man and the Sea and Invisible Man but ultimately he's an action hero in a movie not different than Taken, A History of Violence, and other similar "retired but has to use his skills again" type of movies. There's a crazy over the top scene where he walks away from an explosion, with badass music cued in the background. At a certain point I forgot what triggered the plot until near the end. The movie tries to be something more than it is. I will say that it is always entertaining and no one plays unflappably cool like Washington.

Go see this movie if you have nothing better to do, otherwise skip it and wait to stream it.

I just finished watching Triangle, a 2009 suspense/psychological thriller. I wanted to see a weird movie and found a recommendation on reddit; 82% on rotten tomatoes. I thought it was going to be a dumb slasher based on the promo posters, but I think that was just to lure stupid people to see the film.

This movie is 1 part slasher, 9 parts what the fuck is going on.

The film is about a woman who goes sailing on a yacht with some friends, encounter a storm, and are seemingly rescued by a large freighter. It seems there's no one on the freighter though, until some seriously weird shit starts happening. If you like mind-bending movies (a twilight-zone type of vibe) then check this one out.

I am a huge fan of James McAvoy, and Danny Boyle, especially due to two Irvine Welsh novel to movie adaptations. James McAvoy in "Filth" [highly recommended weird sexual thriller], and Danny Boyle's direction for "Trainspotting" [if you haven't seen it, do].

But last night I watched the 2013 "psychological thriller" called "Trance". I have a bit of respect for both, but especially Boyle because he is the director. The movie has a "positive review" online. It is nothing more than a racist and feminist propaganda piece. It takes the girls are not victims and this is what they should do to the next level of crazy. It reminded me of feminist "pacifists" posting on FB cheering when a girl or her father cut off an accused man's penis or balls. I watch a lot of movies, and this has one of the worst messages of ones I've seen.

Recent films for me:

Gone girl - watched in theatres, strong recommendation.
Gran torino - did not disappoint, I had mild expectations. The end triggered some emotions I wasn't expecting
Boyhood - a bit too long, although enjoyable. Best parts were the nostalgic ones (I lost my shit when I saw the kids watching DBZ)

Just watched "Shallow Grave". Danny Boyle and Ewan McGregor's first film, just before "Trainspotting". Incredible style [similar to Trainspotting] but more of a thriller. A lot ofgreat imagery and symbolism.

The ending does not disappoint, and is even "red pill". At less than 90 minutes, I highly recommend it.
