I was in work looking over some data last night and watched Dark Skies while I was at my desk.
Jist of it: Family has weird shit happening in their house (ie. food all over the floor, kitchen stuff balanced around, then progresses to their security system going bananas, and finally walking outside hypnotized/losing time). Turns out, yep, it's fucking aliens.

Watched it because alien abduction movies actually scare this shit out of me. Turned out to be kind of lame though. A couple parts I enjoyed though, and one part early on where I definately jumped out of my chair. I thought Schillinger (for those of you who have ever watched the HBO show Oz) gave great advice about dealing with ET.

'Basically, they aren't going away, so lock-and-load.'

Anyways, not a bad flick if you're into X-files stuff.

By the way, good call, KorbenDallas. Leon is a fantastic movie. Maybe Gary Oldman's best role.

Finally got a chance to see Gravity tonight. No complaints. It was absolutely stunning visually. I think everyone should see the movie just to appreciate the space imagery.

The film was a little emotionally draining too. How I wish Clooney lived.

Watched 3 movies in the last week.

2 Guns: Don't waste your time with this. I usually like the cheesy Wahlberg popcorn flicks good for one-time watches but 2 Guns sucked. I thought Denzel and Mark would be good together but they had no chemistry, the story was all over the place, and the dialogue was bad even for a Wahlberg movie.

The World's End: Decent one-time watch movie. It's not laugh out loud funny but it's got a story which is interesting enough to make you wanna watch.

The Great Gatsby: I suppose you could call it a one-time watch as well. I would strictly watch it for the stunning visuals. I assume most of the forum has read the book and the movie doesn't deviate much from the book. Gatsby was the ultimate beta. He died taking the blame for a woman who didn't even really love him or want to spend her life with him. Daisy was the typical North American woman playing two men against each other and getting away with murder (literally).

I'm on December break so I've been watching quite a few movies. I just finished watching Dead Man Down and Seven Psychopaths.

Dead Man Down was good, but nothing special. The acting was better than the plot (which I found to be rather typical of the genre). There was one scene in a movie that actually really pissed me off and made me literally pause the movie and Google the laws about assault when pertaining to children when they attack first...I won't spoil the scene. Hahaha. Anyway, I think this movie is better than it gets credit for.

Seven Psychopaths was a really good movie. Lot's of late reveals, which I like in a movie. I'm sure the movie was very symbolic and had tons of deep meaning but I didn't think too much about it and simply took it at face value. I really liked the acting by Christopher Walken and Sam Rockwell. I'd recommend both movies, but Seven Psychopaths will definitely be the more entertaining of the two.

I just watched the new Coen brothers movie (the guys who made Fargo and No Country For Old Men) Inside Llewyn Davis. The movie didn’t really have a plot and moves at a somewhat slow pace but I was still entertained. The titular character wanders 1961 New York’s music scene trying to catch a break and has a few interesting/crazy adventures during the course of the movie.

One thing I found funny due to my red pill education is (SLIGHT SPOILER ALERT) a thread that involves the main character impregnating a girl. He gets this chick pregnant and she blames him and tells him he has to pay for the abortion. He goes to the doctor’s office and the doctor says he doesn’t have to pay him because the last girl he impregnated ended up not going through with the procedure and the doctor never paid the money back. The guy is essentially homeless, drifting from couch to couch with his guitar and he still gets regular pussy and appeared to be paying for abortions on the regular. Anyway, the sound track is great, and apparently the main actor Oscar Isaac performed all the songs himself. I'll definitely download the sound track and I usually don't even like this type of music.

Check this film out if you’ve enjoyed previous Coen brother’s films, otherwise maybe wait and download it.

American Hustle - dragged on it parts, could have used a better editor. Used this faux-Scorcese voiceover technique that was a bit tiresome. Amy Adams, Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper were all great, but Jennifer Lawrence was the ultimate scene-stealer, playing a Borderline Personality Disorder-type. A couple cool cameos as well, which I won't spoil.

After Earth with Will Smith and his son that looks like hes about to cry every second. This was the worst movie I've seen in a long time. That M Night director is so shitty.

My brother got me a French movie called 'The Players' for Xmas. Haven't watched it yet, but the blurb on the back of the box looks very promising.

Apparently it got criticism in France for being 'sexist'...sounds like it could be a good one!

I know what cameo you're referring too, and I was supremely disappointed that someone wasn't whacked right then and there. I was a little bit let down, but the theme of the movie was pretty strong. (Everybody's hustlin')

Saw Wolf of Wall Street today, and I had originally heard that it was 4 hours running and rated X. They cut it down to 3 hours and a R rating. Half of the movie was soft-core porn and the other half was him ingesting enough cocaine and other drugs to kill a squadron of elephants. Thought there were some really funny scenes in here. Not sure if it's good enough for an Oscar, but DiCaprio really put himself out there for this one.

I just saw the Wolf of wall street too. Highly entertaining but I didn't get a sense of any moral/philosophical questions out of it like I usually do with good movies (aside from the whole greed and most people being dweebs thing) great speeches by Wolfie though. Right up there with always be closing

That being said maybe I missed some of the deeper aspects since I had a boner for 2hrs after seeing the blonde wife naked. I nearly pinked out in the "mommy isn't wearing any panties" scene

Man of Steel: Superman movies are hard, not because of anything difficult pertaining to his mythology or anything to do with casting; it's because he's boring. A superhero who can do literally anything but develop a personality and interact with people one-to-one? Wake me up when you have some real problems.

Weak script. Even Amy Adams (nearing the wall), who is usually at least very good, you could tell was struggling delivering the exposition-heavy dialogue. The previous Superman Movie (Superman Returns) was superior, but at the same time they suffered from opposing problems; Returns did a great job humanizing Superman but had precious little action, while Man of Steel made it clear that he wasn't and could never be human (thanks to about 80% of the dialogue being one character explaining something to another character), but brought it with the action (the final battle was dope). 6/10

The Wolverine: A pleasant surprise. I'm as tired as Hugh Jackman gruffing up as Wolverine as the rest of you (though I understand that by now it's an easy gig for him and he probably commands about $15 million so I can't hate), but at least this story had good flow and pacing.

It started fast with him in Japan, protecting the daughter of a man he befriended during WWII. Great action scenes and good character moments were only a little weakened by a far-fetched story (I still don't get it but from what I gather...he wanted Wolverine's abilities, so he cheats his own death, let's him bang his hot grand-daughter, builds a robot, and...profit?) and an overwrought conclusion with a typical happy ending, and I'm really getting tired of all of these Xmen movies, but still, 7/10 would watch again.

The Family: Is Robert De Niro out of money? He was in The Deer Hunter, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas and Casino and yet he has to mail it in for crap like this?

From what I gather he rats and relocates his family to France, hi-jinks ensue, there's a Goodfellas screening (Goodfellas: 10/10) that makes him unravel and the movie goes through about two-dozen tonal shifts; it has no idea if it wants to be a Mafia movie, a thriller, a fish-out-of-water tale, a comedy or a conspiracy caper. About the only bright spots were Tommy Lee Jones as a grizzled FBI agent and Dianna Agron playing his sweet-but-psychotic daughter. 4/10, Dianna Agron: 9.5/10



Finding Nemo: My 2-year old nephew, who I am visiting, loves this movie, and I've seen it 4 times in 3 days; I'd have rather been watching sports or maybe Scarface or Jurassic Park (both which the guide has shown have been on), but I get that he's just 2 and those movies aren't appropriate for him yet. There's a sequel starring Ellen DeGeneres coming out, and while some may hate, I actually like Ellen; she's funny and she doesn't use her fame to feed an obvious god complex (looking at you, Oprah) or to push ridiculously suspect science onto the unwashed masses while being a mangina (and you, Dr. Oz). I will probably see that when it comes out, provided I can get some good mushrooms. 8/10 WALL-E is still better.

As for new movies, there are a few I want to see (The Wolf of Wall St., The Hobbit II, American Hustle, 12 Years a Slave), I really just can't bring myself to do the movies anymore. Believe it or not the last movie date I did was way back for The Hangover II and I still remember it cost about $70 (drink date: $45), and by myself? I'd rather wait a few weeks and watch it online, but that's just me.

World War Z was blah. A zombie disease is infecting the world and Brad Pitt has to stop it. Decent action and special effects. It has a hideous wife that looked creepy when they kissed and a tough army girl whos kicking ass. 2/10.

Blood In, Blood Out - Ghetto classic. Some cheesy scenes but the good ones make up for them. Some good, raw prison ones.

I didn't like it as much as I had hoped. I read the book before seeing it. It didn't emphasize the brotherhood aspect as much as I had hoped. The ending became a hollywood ending and wasn't like the book.

American Hustle was IMO terrible. Can't believe this shit got a 90+ rating on rottentomatoes. The movie was 2 hours long and I wanted to leave within 15 minutes

American Hustle like Rusell's other films was over rated.

Interesting cinematography and style, good acting (probably Renner's best) but going into the movie after watching the WoWS hearing tons of praise for AH I was expecting more (the same way I felt last year with Silver Linings)

But the film and its story for the most part was boring. Reminds me of watching the student films that come out of local film schools.

It wasn't the best plot or sophisticated movie scheme. The only interesting thing from the movie's story was how you could relate the ice fishing story to Polito, Irving and DiMaso.


Now the WoWS, that was entertaining! Maybe two hours too long but I still enjoyed it. Was funny to watch people walk out of the theater (some people brought kids, lol)

LOL, maybe I misquoted it being a spoiler alert. It was just more that the book does not compare well with the movie. And the ending is fictional. Only for those who read the book - if you didn't no biggie.

Go see Rush if you're a fan of motorsports, fast cars, and competition. If you're not, go see it anyway because there's a lot of Athlone grade eye candy, gorgeous cinematography, and the story's portrayal of conflict and rivalry is superb.
