RE: Communicating with the less intelligent
I read a little bit of the OP's blog, and it sounds like he's surrounded by colossally stupid white trash. While this doesn't affect the validity of his points, I'm sure he'd be less occupied by such topics if he lived in a big metropolitan city where he could carve out a decent niche. Just giving some context.

Wow, the guy lives in Kalamazoo.

I've never even stepped foot in the USA and I've heard things about Kalamazoo.

Apparently it's divided by a railroad, and on the one side of the railroad is where all the nasty people live, and on the other side are
all the extra-nasty people.

If that's the case, I can understand the chip on the shoulder.

Hey guys, what are some of your favorite blogs written by intelligent men, for intelligent men. I'm talking primarily non game-related.

Using the definition of Intelligence as being the ability to adapt to new challenges, I'd say:

Sovereign Man

and

Zero Hedge

Because both blogs revolve around a different way of looking at today's financial problems.

Otherwise it's hard to think of anything. Hyper-intelligent people tend to be geeky, and have geeky blogs. Like this barbecue blog. The guy even recently broke a world record by having a barbecue for 62 hours non stop. Ridiculously intelligent in terms of practical business sense and lifehacking, and a member of Mensa, so he's in the top 2% of IQ scores.

Joseph Perla seems to be pretty intelligent too, but his blog runs all over the place. I did find his card game method of getting work done to be extremely useful

I forgot to mention Hade's Fitness Blog - I like the way Hades seems to test and research every aspect of his workouts. It reminds me of the Stronglifts blog when it was still being updated.

I used to have a buddy who wasn't useful for conversation, but he was fun. The kind of guy that organizes activities for the group. And an amazing driver - he could drive backwards at full speed up and down twisty mountain roads. He seemed to have a sort of meditative awareness - very present.

In groups of guys deficiencies in one area are more tolerable. Actually, that's a good reason to date more than one girl.

I used to have a blast in Kzoo. I had some good friends there and partied there a lot. Cool city with a few colleges.

RE: Communicating with the less intelligent
I think Samseau hit the nail on the head with the pussy/bully dynamic in regards to smart people and this reality has always been something that has bothered me. I won't argue against these realities, but I could just never understand, as a person of high intelligence and multiple graduate degrees, why almost all of my peers (other smart people) had to fit into these two categories.

When I interact with random people, I talk like a normal guy and almost exclusively use lay terms. I see no point in using technobabble if not necessary. I make no attempt to sound smarter than people I interact with or to imply that I'm smarter than they are. I.e. I don't bully.

RE: Communicating with the less intelligent
I know the OP was trolling, but the actual argument it spurred is an interesting one. Basically, is being smart a legitimate excuse for not relating to regular people and having difficulty communicating with them? Speaking as a self-proclaimed genius, no it isn't. I'll back it up with the best kind of evidence: anecdotal evidence.

I recently invited several friends over to play a board game. Three of these friends had played the game previously, two were new to it. The two who hadn't played before were people who I'd characterize as being fairly average. Of the three friends who had played before, one was fairly clever but more oriented in creative pursuits, while the other two were highly intelligent science/computer geeks. What makes this story interesting is how these oh-so-intelligent strategic geniuses proceeded to lose themselves the game.

For starters both the geniuses had to bombard the new people with their encyclopedic knowledge of all the rules and strategies, to the point of talking over me while I was trying to explain the basic rules. Of course this ensured that the new people had no idea how to play and were just confused. But the important thing was that everyone acknowledge how smart the smart people were, not to actually make sure everyone has a good time, right?

As the game went on, smart guy #1 managed to get drunk and continued talking over everyone, eventually antagonizing the entire group to the point that everyone one attacked him, giving him last place at the end. Smart guy #2 took the opposite approach of being very quiet and not making the mistake of engaging anyone in polite conversation, similarly leaving him as an unsympathetic target.

At the end of the game, the creative guy who had social skills won the game, I took second, the two new players took third and fourth, and the geniuses were at the bottom. #1 accused us of ganging up on him, unable to realize that he'd precipitated it by behaving obnoxiously, and #2 had a whole litany of excuses as to why his master plan had failed. And of course I didn't bother to correct either of them and point out that they did poorly at the social aspect of the game, ironically I condescendingly assumed they lacked the proper faculties to grasp my point.

The ship has largely sailed on this thread but I want to add my two cents anyway.

(09-16-2012 08:15 PM)scotian Wrote:  Advice to my intellectual superiors: be nice to us simpletons, we out number you, if you treat us like shit, we can and will make your life a living hell, this is especially true at work.

Its all about respect guys, even if a co-worker or underling is dumb as a post, treat them with respect.

This is the key right here.

Those "little people" so many seem so keen to look down upon are the same folks that we depend on everyday.

It is not wise to fuck with the people who make your food, keep your vehicles running, keep your power on, get all the pricey food and other materials you want to buy to your stores (by land, sea or air) so you can spend inordinate amounts of money on them, build your homes, and build/maintain the roads and railways you use daily. I could go on and on listing the things these people do, but suffice it to say that they keep our society going. We all depend on them.

And yet too often the same people who benefit most from their work (which, let's be honest, is often quite difficult and doesn't pay as well as the relatively cushy office jobs that those who consider themselves "more than" might aspire to) are willing to write these people off and talk them down, the way a high-born duke in medieval England may have scoffed at a foreign peasant. One such person is trying to run for president right now, and the fact that he has even a snowball's chance in hell of contending for that seat tells me a lot of bad things about the state of this country right now.

The bottomline, however, is this: have some respect for people. Don't undermine them or where they come from. Do not talk down to them or demean the institutions they respect. Do not treat them like inherent inferiors under any circumstances-I do not care what schools you went to or how much money you have.

The better you are at this, the further you'll go.

Also very true. Never be too proud to think you can glean something from somebody who, for whatever reason, doesn't have as much money as you do or didn't go to the kind of school you did.
Pride always goes before the fall-he who the gods strike down, they first fill with excessive pride. Reign it in as best you can.

If you can't relate to regular people (seemingly regardless of your intelligence) it's because you're a misanthropic dick, whatever the reason why.
