I hate the steadily creeping delay when transferring money between banks.

Ten years ago it was instant. Five years ago it was 2 days.

Today I find out it's now 3 days.

Douchebanks.

In the US, I sold a car and got a cashier's check for $14,000. I deposited in my account, with the plan to buy another car with the money.

Even though it was a cashier's check from a big company, they held it for 10 business days. You know the check cleared and they had the money in their account within 3 days, and probably 2, but they still held it the entire 10 days. Basically, they held my money hostage, because the law allows them to hold it for up to 10 days, so they kept it for the maximum time.

Fuckers!

Probably due to "fraud practices". Don't blame you being pissed though. How long have you had your account?

Whatever fags instituted a ban on incandescent light bulbs should have shattered glass and mercury poured down their throats.
These new bulbs cost an absolutely ludicrous amount for what should be a piece of glass with a tungsten wire running through it.
"Oh but it's so much more efficient! You'll save money in the long run!"
Sure, but if I chop off your legs with an ax, you'll save money on shoes. Doesn't mean you want me to do it.

Whether I want to pay an increased up front cost for savings down the road (which seem to be based on extremely optimistic usage scenarios) should be my choice. I don't need some dumbass "go-green" politician making it for me.

LED lights are not so bad now but I'm holding out judgement until they prove their claimed life span.

All previous "energy saver" lights I've tried are a joke because their claimed life of ten or more times that of a traditional bulb all turn out to be a complete hoax.

Wire nuts and solid copper wire. And shitty work ethic.

It just took me an hour of sweating and cursing to replace two 40 year old household outlets because whoever wired them originally was a fucking imbecile. Do the job right the first time motherfucker! It's at least ten times harder to fix something down the road than to just do it right to begin with.

Now I have seven more outlets and something like five switches to go. Yippee. No wonder electricians charge so much. This is a pain in the ass.
weambulance 路 2017-01-24 01:43:00 路 #1285
Dear Lord. It's like every outlet was wired by a different person. Now I have two outlets with really short wires because they used backstab type outlet connections, which would be great... except they're 12 gauge wires and they don't fit into the backstab holes on my new outlets because 12 gauge backstab isn't to code anymore. So I have to use the screw connectors with about 2/3 the wire I would normally have available.

Motherfucker.

I thought CFL bulbs were bullshit from the outset, most people weren't aware of all the toxic materials in those that are released when you break them. That was the biggest deal-breaker for me, you don't want to be breathing in mercury and other shit. That's why they're best left in offices where they're being changed out by someone who won't break them. As for life, they seemed to be fairly long lasting under my usage patterns, one lasted over 5 years. One of the reasons fluorescent lights are shit for home use is that on/off cycles kill them very fast. That's why only commercial buildings used them originally, because they're not getting flipped on and off constantly.

LEDs as an electronic component, on the other hand, have been around for a long time and known to be reliable. Only problem was they weren't all that bright, that changed recently. The bulbs you buy now are just a bunch of bright ones grouped together to generate a large amount of light, similar technology that lights up your stereo and other electronics.

I replaced a few incandescent bulbs in my RV with LEDs to cut down on battery drain, it saves a lot of power. They have tons of tiny LEDs on them:

The nice thing about there being 120 of them is redundancy if some burn out, these cheap ones from China eventually have a few pop after a lot of use.

Service windows.

"Oh, we'll be there between 12 and 4."

It's like, fuck off, we both know you'll be here at 4. Let's not make a game out of it.

Schedule an appointment time and stick to it, is it really that hard?

On a related note: How is it you can arrive early to a doctor's office 99.9% of the time and they'll be running late -- but the one time you're running behind happens to be the same time he's magically ahead of schedule, and you still end up having to wait for the motherfucker.

At the time this happened, it was 11 years. I still have the same account a few years later. I looked it up at the time, and the law gives them a maximum of 10 days for large checks like this, so they take the maximum time as a matter of policy, without any consideration of risk. This was a cashiers check from Carmax, a giant nationwide US company. Once the check cleared and they had the money transfered into their hands, they just wanted the 8 days of interest on $14k, before letting me use it to buy another vehicle.

I've mentioned before how much I hate fat people. God bless my mutha and her crazy ass Jane Fonda gotta stay fit attitude and hate fat people...I got it from her. Here's another great example.

I was in the little waiting room for a chiropractor adjustment (back issue getting fixed).

Here are the facts: 3 obese white chicks waiting...I should say, 3 obese pre-menopausal white chicks, since I give a slight bit of leeway to older women who physiologically have a tougher time not putting on fat. These chicks don't have that excuse.

My thoughts: They all work in hr departments. I wonder if they can wipe their ass after they shit. I bet they smell. Do they have any idea how disgusting they are? How often do they eat pizza? How much sugar do they eat?

They wonder why they're having joint issues...gee I don't know, because you're unhealthy and dying.

Oh and then one is telling how she got flowers from some guy she met online...Both girls all giggly.

Ugh.

I'm with ya. And it's so rampant here in the States it's becoming the norm. People joke about being fat all the time and they don't do shit about it. I see memes like "I'm into being fit....fitting this whole pizza in my mouth hahaha" I mean...funny, I guess. It won't be funny in 10 years when you have diabetes and die an early death.

I think more than that for me though is the accountability these people aren't taking for their health. They won't get off their fat asses and DO something about it. They'll joke, they'll whine, they'll bitch they don't have the time, and they complain about being fat shamed. It's fucking pathetic.

I hate people who ask "who's going to be there?" when you're organizing an event.

I hate people who exaggerate grieving. A relative died that you gave zero fucks about when alive and now they're your hero. Funny thing is these people crave tragic events as it gives their otherwise depressing vanilla lives a sense of meaning.

I hate people who are pronunciation Nazis, especially when the correct pronunciation butchers the conversation flow and is rarely used. These guys love correcting you mid-sentence as if they cannot let you proceed until they rectify the pronunciation. Examples: Goethe, niche. Extreme example: La Rochefoucauld

I hate victims, especially in regards to being overweight. "It's my genetics, you'll never understand." The vast majority of these people have never touched a weight in their life.

I hate HR.

Ink on a woman is revolting. God's great gift to a woman is beautiful, soft, clean skin. To pretend like it is a canvas for some stupid cherries, a dinky flower or some porn star "stars" is anathema to me. Right on.

I hate Captain Obvious types.

I fucking hate drunks in bars that take anything but absolute praise as a dare to fight. Had some guy the other night try to start shit for no reason at all, he even came outside when my friend and I went out for a smoke and said oh you guys better not come back in here! This guy was not the owner of the bar nor at all intimidating.

I hate Slip and Fall artists. Seriously fuck them and their mother.

I hate cheap companies who don't ensure their employee's have adequate safety equipment.

I H-H-HAAATE my flatmate. I mean I hate this dude in an unhealthy way.

First of all, I hate him because he sold himself as a totally different guy than what he turned out to be.

Secondly he is not a bad guy, just a poor beta dweeb who is DEEP into his western european brainwash matrix. He's anti-Trump, pro-refugees, male feminist.

He came to Brazil in a funk hoping the change of scene would help pull him out of it. Seven months later, he has not even looked for a job (which he said he'd do on his first day here). Instead he just hangs out at home watching Netflix and John Oliver all day, everyday.

He says he suffers from work burnout and years of stress, and that has depleted him of all of his energy and he can't get well. I consider depression a disease so maybe he's got a point. But he takes no steps to improve his condition. What would he do if he had no money saved up? Curl up and die? Nah, he'd deal with it.

He's always sick with the flu or something, probably because he's mindset it so terrible.

He asked me for girl advice his first week here. I gave him the blueprint to banging Tinder chicks and getting some momentum. He felt it was too manipulative, he's a "romantic". One day later he got a date with a 4, went out in the rain to meet her and got stood up. Has never brought a girl over, and most likely has not banged in at least a few months.

I hate him because he's got potential but he's in such denial that he would rather remain ignorant and unhappy.

He's leaving in two weeks and plans to live on unemployment checks in Europe.

I somehow missed the lightbulb disscussion when it came up.
When incandescent light bulbs were banned here a while back, I had intended to go and buy a lifetime supply from an electrical wholsaler that I knew had them in boxes of 100 but I never got around to it.
Not that it would have mattered, they'd worked out the secret to giving them a pre-determined lifespan by then anyway. I'm going to tell you a true story...

My Aunt's house was built in the 30s or 40s. She bought it in 1971.
I remember her telling me about the light bulb in one room of her house which had never been changed since she had lived there, while the rest had blown countless times. She was convinced that the quality of bulbs had steadily declined over the years, that the modern ones were even worse, that it was a scam and that one light bulb was proof.
When she died a few years ago and I was cleaning out her house, the very last treasured possession I took home was that light bulb.
I still have it in my house today, and that bulb which is at least 46 years old is still working perfectly right now.

Planned obsolescence is certainly a standard practice.

Re: lightbulbs, look up the Phoebus Cartel.

Also, the Centennial Light is a bulb that's been burning since 1901, though it's quite dim now. Leaving it on continuously is kind of cheating though because on-off cycles do a number on light bulbs, what with the huge temperature swing in a very short period of time every time the light changes state.

A not-very-good source (stackexchange) I just found says a normal modern tungsten filament incandescent bulb will burn for around 10 years before failing if you leave it on constantly. I guess the filament very slowly sublimates and eventually fails. The Centennial Light mentioned above is a carbon filament bulb that doesn't degrade in that manner.
