That's a great smoothie.

Keep in mind that we are on the Internet, so guys will ferociously debate this stuff.

But in my view, juicing or blending (or both) is great:

Juicing or Blending?

I have a high speed blender (BlendTec) and an Omega juicer. I do smoothies and juice.

Juicing is a good because you absorb more nutrients. It also gives you digestive system a break.

But...blending is great, too.

I don't think one is better than the other.

Thank you, I will try juicing out a couple days a week and see if I can give the digestion a little break.

How beneficial is leek in comparison to kale and collards?

I've thrown leek into my Vitamix over the last week, and it really makes the smoothies nasty.

Has anyone else had weird reactions when juicing beets? I think you can't juice too much of it, I've been getting headaches and nausea when doing so.

Not sure about the comparison of benefits, but I have mentioned before that juicing leeks is deadly.

I cook them now.

I think I read something like that online before I started juicing them.

I juice half a beet at a time and have had zero issues.

Beets supposedly have a ton of benefits: http://www.fullcircle.com/goodfoodlife/2...ing-beets/

This one: "1. Beets are nature’s Viagra", should garner some interest from the forum.

The Hamilton Beach Big Mouth juicer showed up at my place and I've already juiced a shitload of apples, celery, carrots, and spinach.

Pretty stoked that I can now just drink the spinach instead of eating that nasty shite. Celery juice is also not half bad. It makes less juice than I thought it would, a solid pint takes like two pounds of vegetables. I can't wait to try out juicing about four pounds of onions. Overall though, vegetables aren't that cheap, I might end up stewing some of the pulp.

Starting juicing beets recently. Got a great pump from it. Its a fantastic pre-workout (1 beet, assorted beet leaves, 3 carrots, 5 big kale leaves). Ups to MikeCF.

Quick Question- Do you guys peel your beets and carrots? I've been peeling the skin, but I am wondering if I am missing out on too many nutrients by doing so?

I peel my beets when making milder juices, as that gets rid of the earthy flavor.

Last night, for example, I juiced 1 full beet with 12 stalks of celery and 10 carrots. Celery (like cucumber) is mild, almost like water, and whatever you add is going to dominate the juice.

The earthiness of the beet would have taken over the juice if I hadn't peeled it.

Peeling carrots also makes for a sweeter juice. I'm too impatient to peel them.

You're not missing out on any nutrients by peeling them - other than the volume of food you lose (a small amount) in peeling them.

I juiced a sweet potato, carrots, red bell pepper and some celery this morning. I am gonna try to do orange juice (like the one I made today not from a orange) one day and green the next. An keep repeating that orange/green juice cycle for awhile.

Did 4 ounces of onion juice 20 out of 21 days. Verdict: Don't bother with it for boosting testosterone. I didn't notice anything except maybe my hair growing a little bit faster.

I do really appreciate your information and the fact that you run the onion juice test on yourself and shared your results.

Nonetheless, I question your assessment of how you could perceive that your hair is growing faster? Was the faster growth of hair all over your body or just certain parts, like facial hair or the hair on your head?

Note that I qualified that statement with MAYBE and A LITTLE BIT. The heck if I know if my hair grew faster. Just seemed like it did (and it already grows pretty fast). Nothing scientific. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence that onions help with hair growth due to the sulfur.

I shave my head and so it was only my head hair I was referring to. Easier to eyeball hair growth when you're starting from bald and regularly shave your head.

That makes sense. It is not easy to tell with those kinds of things - With me, I can tell that the hair on my head is disappearing, and a few years ago, I saw that someone had taken a picture of my head from a certain angle, and at first I did not recognize myself b/c of the changes in my hair from that angle (from behind and at an upper angle).

And, recently my facial hair seems to have been growing pretty well... but I would not be able to tell in a short period of time, if something that I ate or did had made a difference. There are many treatments regarding hair loss, even supposed natural ones, but I'm not sure if i believe half of them.

I've been drinking a lot of carrots, celery, peaches, and apples to get used to it.
So do you guys mix this with protein powders at all?

Nilla, you do know that onions are cram packed with antioxidants, right? Farmers don't even bother with pesticides because nothing wants to eat that shit.
Maybe you have to up the doseage to notice it affecting testosterone, considering the study involving rats, they're pretty small, it might be comparable to a human drinking a full pint glass of it every day.

I'm LMAO about this comment. BNilla drank 4 ounces of onion juice for 20 days - that's like 80 ounces, and now, Hades, you are suggesting that BNilla should up the dose rather than giving up .. and then report back... that's funny... BNilla. Thanks for volunteering, but we are not quite satisfied with your report... so get back to to the grindstone, and we want you to double your dose, and let us know how it goes. thanks a lot... hehehehe.... Smile Smile and, don't skip any days, ok.? and, don't forget to report back.. that is if your still alive... thanks, again.. your the GREATEST..

I wasn't aware that you're supposed to drink such small amounts while juicing. This whole time I've been drinking like a liter of celery in a sitting. The unit is such a bitch to clean that I hate not filling up the pulp dispenser every time.

Haha, OK, I'll try this out myself when I can get to the store for like twenty pounds of onions.
It won't be a good control group because I'm going to rock ass at the weights as hard as I can but I'll let you guys know if my balls double in size or something.

Edit: So I checked BNillas dose and it appears to be correct, if you're about 215 pounds or whatever, that's about 97 millilitres, which is in the neighborhood of 3 to 4 ounces. The rat study suggested 1 gram of onion juice per kilogram of bodyweight as a high dose, with half of the rats getting .5 gram per kilo.

Neither onions nor celery are on the list of goitrogenic vegetables, and some people may have trouble with their thyroid production, and may or may not know that.

Note this goitrogenic effect is supposed to be more of a problem from high doses of raw rather than cooked.

I got the below information from this link:

http://www.healthfulelements.com/blog/20...d-boosters

And some people may want to research further into the topic.

A Snip-it from the website:

>>>>>What are goitrogens?
Goitrogens are naturally-occurring compounds found in many whole foods, to varying degrees. Research suggests they may suppress thyroid function by interfering with iodine uptake – in essence, slowing the thyroid’s absorption of iodine. This, in turn, can cause a goiter, which is an enlargement of the thyroid (hence the name). Goitrogens may also inhibit the production of thyroid hormone. For those of who have trouble producing thyroid hormone, we certainly don’t want anything else hampering thyroid function.

Cruciferous vegetables and soy-based foods generally have the highest levels of goitrogens:

Bok choy
Broccoli
Broccolini
Brussels sprouts
Cabbage
Canola
Cauliflower
Chinese cabbage
Choy sum
Collard greens
Horseradish
Kai-lan (Chinese broccoli)
Kale
Kohlrabi
Mizuna
Mustard greens
Radishes
Rapeseed (yu choy)
Rapini
Rutabagas (swedes)
Tatsoi
Turnips
Tempeh
Tofu
Edamame

The following other foods likely have mild amounts of goitrogens:

Peanuts
Strawberries
Peaches
Millet
Sweet potatoes
Pears
Spinach
Pine nuts
Bamboo shoots<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Thanks for all the info on goitrogenic vegetables JayJuanGee.

I drank half of a very large onion straight and ended up salivating like a dog in a moving vehicle for about half an hour trying to resist throwing up while eating celery to cool the burning sensation. That shit burns all the way down and right into your innards. Moral of the story, I guess cut it with a lot of celery and take in small doses. There is a definite pro-boner effect though. They say that the crazy amount of antioxidants in onions neutralizes free radicals in your testes and let loose more testosterone. It's possible that BigNilla has been juicing long enough that he's peaked at the useful amount of antioxidants, I dunno.
