Struck me that on the old western frontier, this might have been a very sensible and practical advertisement to nail up at the town hall or church notice board. In that context, she'd likely have been a widow looking for a new husband for respectability and security for herself and her new child, and offering something in return (marriage and a big family in an environment short on women) a man of that era would have wanted. Yes, we're in agreement. I sorta shifted gears in that post up above, but I was talking about the widow with kids coming across as just another irresponsible carousel rider in online dating. The actual irresponsible carousel riders getting themselves knocked up and then looking for a husbabysitter have poisoned the well for the unicorn who was a responsible adult but finds herself a "single mom" only due to the death of her husband.

My late grandmother and late grandfather on my dad's side were such a couple.
