Works well for a couple reasons:
1. Calls her out, but OBVIOUSLY she didn't die, points out that she's been rude.

Funny you mention that, I actually send out "so did you die on me?" to girls who flake a few days later. You're 100% right, usually get a response (typically followed by some lame ass excuse)

Yeah, she has no real reason to be invested in you, unless you dominate the social group of your mutual friends and she knows for sure you're high value. In which case, she wouldn't be flaking.

Send the one text. If you don't hear back, don't send more: this just makes you look 'needy' (best case) or gets you filed as a stalker / creeper (worst case). If you haven't heard back after a couple of hours - an acceptable amount of time, given women's phone obsessions - make plans with another girl.

On the off-chance she suddenly changes her mind at the last minute and texts you later, you get to casually say in your words: "Thought you'd flaked. No go tonight. Made other plans. No hard feelings."

It shows you're not angry about it, (keeps her open to suggestion), but you're not sitting around waiting for her to entertain you either. You want her to see that the fun follows you, not her.
