That's actually one of my major gripes with Scandinavia. Unless you are willing to spend outrageous amounts of $$$ it is very difficult to stand out in terms of dress. Out on the town the overall fashion level is very high.

Which is why I like the US in this sense. Heck even in its major cities I can be among very few that are rolling in finer threads (not counting bankers and lawyers in oversized, ill-fitting business suits).

If a sport coat or odd jacket has texture or a nice pattern, then it can look good with jeans. Smooth, worsted wool that you typically see in suit jackets almost never looks good with jeans. I have two seersucker suit coats that I can pair with denim (I'm talking about raw, dark indigo) but that's it. In fact, I prefer to wear my seersucker coats with jeans, as a full on seersucker suit can be a bit much.

I'm partial to Italian Sport Coats with tweed patterns. Obviously, Italy is warmer than the UK, and the coat fabrics tend to be finer and lighter, which suits the Mediterranean climate where I live.

I especially like Gun Club Check. I personally own two Gun Club jackets; one is Cantarelli, and the other is Isaia Napoli. The Cantarelli is 100% cashmere. It's fully canvassed with horn buttons, and is an absolute pleasure to wear.

There is one main drawback for those (like myself) with champagne taste and a beer budget - these jackets usually retail for two or three grand apiece. However, I'm not above a little discount shopping! I picked up the Cantarelli from a guy on Style Forvm, and the Isaia was on sale at Sierra Trading Post. Eighty bucks for tailoring and I'm good to go.

Find a reputable tailor in Southeast Asia and have them replicate it. Get a few in different colors.

I've been able to get a tailor in Latin America to reproduce quality suits for me. moderntailor.com is also good if you already know the exact measurements of your ideal suit. I get all my shirts there and I just recently bought my first suit from them. I am very satisfied with the quality of their work.

again it's simple, the distinction is between a blazer and a suit jacket. The pictures of guys who don't look good are guys who are mixing a suit jacket with jeans, its a sin I see committed in London aplenty.

Modern Taylor looks promising. I just bookmarked that site for future reference. Do you know where they are based out of? Do they outsource their tailoring overseas?

Have to say I'm with the G on this one.

Given the difficulty of pulling off this look correctly (not worth it in my opinion), as well as being associated with the many try-hards who fail to get the look right, it seems much better to go for a different casual stylish look.

Also had to laugh cuz I'm currently wearing slacks, black undershirt, and a v-neck sweater. Interesting coincidence.

If you can't pull off the jeans/blazer look, you are not a true international playboy. Hell, I invented the word playboy.

I developed the jeans/blazer look for comfort constantly being on 12-16 hr. transatlantic flights. Jeans are simply more comfortable. Fly from Houston to Qatar and see how you look and feel going full suited.

I start the flight with shirt untucked, then tuck it in and put the blazer on just before landing. You still look fresh when debarking the plane. Plus the blazer give you a safe place to hold your phone and passport when going though security. Domestically I like it as it hides the Glock stuffed in my belt.

Yeah, this one looks sharper to me than any of the ones posted with jeans.

And I don't even think that is a V-neck. It is sort of a transformer V-neck from his sunglasses.

The T-shirt isn't that sharp either.

So essentially, this guy blew the steez and still looks sharper than all the "super alphas", James Bond and every other photo of a guy wearing the sport coat and jeans.

Speaks volumes.

I just talked to a real cowboy about this. We work in the same company. He does not allow anyone in his area to wear jeans on company time.

He said -- "jeans are for doing yard work".

This guy came from a small farming town to the big city and has done well for himself. He said he is disgusted by people trying to wear "cowboy clothes" as part of a fashionable outfit.

He said -- "unless you are going to a rodeo, leave the jeans at home".

Jeans were a status symbol in Europe for a long time. They just couldn't get them even if they had money. My dad used to bring suitcases full of them to sell when he would go visit family. It would pay for the whole trip.

Cowboys don't do yard work, they have livestock that grazes it down. Plus I don't think a real cowboy would move to San Fran. Plus real cowboys wear wranglers, and I wouldn't take any advice from anyone that wears that brand.

I can't do the bright colored suits like that. I just feel like a clown.


Black, tan, blue and brown are good for suits. Loud colors are easier to pull off on nice dress shirts in my opinion.
