I whole heartedly agree about the "experience" game, by the way. A date is no longer about getting to know one another, it's about going on an adventure and experiencing something fun/exciting/interesting together. The most black and white example of this is the venue change when we talk about angling for a SNL.

Taking a girl out of the setting and into a new one makes it more of an experience. You're taking her on a journey to different places.

Millenial here. This is the reason I only use Facebook (and sparingly at that), no other social media apps. Still feel the FOMO sometimes, despite that.

Imagine the incoming adolescent/young adult anxieties of pre-schoolers that now have iPhones and iPads and are on ALL social media sites.

Facebook became popular in large part because it served as a medium through which people could display status, mostly by collecting "likes" (and to a lesser extent comments and friends).

Instagram took this to the next level by eliminating the text and concentrating entirely on pictures, again with a user's popularity being measured primarily in terms of "likes" (and perhaps followers).

Snapchat, now, marks the first full transition to an experience-based status display mechanism. Instead of collecting likes, comments, or followers, users directly broadcast the most interesting or exciting snippets of their lives to their social circles in an attempt to outdo/outperform their friends.

Why spend $2k on bottle service when you can simply videotape yourself crowdsurfing at a free concert and get the same status-boosting effect?

This is very true. I have found it much much easier to get young girls after 30 than I ever did when I was in my early 20's.
