You have valuable skills. Maybe you could try sending out your resume and fishing for some offers. With no upwards mobility, it might be time for something new. I'd especially try to find a well paying job near San Diego which I'll get to later. Being comfortable is really good but not if your not enjoying yourself. A new environment could be just what you need.
I called a successful and smart buddy of mine yesterday, we did a go to meeting online, he marked up my resume (I haven't updated in almost 4 years).
Yeah it might be time for a change, I'd say I'm pretty good at what I do here though.

If you don't need the money, drop the weekend job. Use that time to enjoy yourself and pursue other interests. You work too much.
I think for now I do need the money while I pay off my bike. Also this gives me extra money to save - I do go out at nights or take the occasional weekend off so I'm not going 7 days a week all the time.
This weekend job is local to where I live, only a few mile drive, which is good.
Quote:It's be nice to have my own place, the rent around here is cheaper than near my work. My commute has about 1-1.5 hours of traffic one way.
That's a long commute everyday. Whether or not you get a new job, I'd try to find somewhere closer. If you can swing it, I think you should try to live by yourself as well. If not, find a cool guy roommate who has similar interests.
The average is about an hour, I usually wake up at 7 to be out the door by 7:30 and at work at 8:30.
Yeah I'm hoping places won't be too expensive I've done some searching and found some places but are around $1200 or so, rent will more than likely be more than half my monthly income. Not sure if that's alot or not, to me that seems pretty steep.
Actually just finished looking close to work, there's places for rent at a university or a studio for around $1200, or roomates from 6-800.
A roommate would be cool, cheaper to, definitely would need to find one that's sort of a player, since I bring girls or plates around often.

If you have some money, you should consider a trip overseas. I wouldn't spend it solely trying to bang girls either. Do something physical. Hike to Maccu Piccu. Go deep into the Jungle and do ayahuasca. Hit up some music festievals with LINUX. Come to Chicago and meet us shitlords.
The money I have usually goes to traveling locally or festivals around here. I'd still have to save a bit to renew my passport and travel overseas. I REALLY need to work on getting overseas.
Actually my plan was to meet you Chicago guys sometime in the next few months hopefully.
Quote:Visiting parts of San Diego
San Diego is absolutely incredible. I've spent a good deal of time around the Coronado/San Diego area and while it can be expensive, the overall atmosphere is incredible. You should seriously consider moving out there or at least spend some more time there. I can't wait to get back there permanently.
San Diego is only a 1.5 hour drive from me, I have a few friends who live there as well, so I do go there ever so often. Gas Lamp's fun, but Pacific Beach has a way more relaxed vibe. I just love it down there, definitely moving has been on my mind.

Your work too much. Also, drop down your gym time. Start lifting 1-3x per week and set a non lifting related goal. Run a marathon, bike a Century, do a GoRuck, get some friends and do a Tough Mudder. Switch up your routine.
*Most importantly* and I've tried to stress this throughout but I really think you work far too much. If there's one thing you do, cut down on that.
I should correct myself, I work 7 days a week, workout about 5 of those days typically M-F. I think a non lifting related goal would be adding some more cardio into my routine.
I have taken more days off this path month for the weekends, this 5 day vacation was super nice, it was hard to even be productive at work yesterday.

1X10 (5 daily round trips) = 10 hours per week
Lets say your time is worth 15 an hour, 10X15=150 a week.
150 a week X 4 weeks = 600 bucks.
I didn't even think about it like that, but damn 40 days a month sounds like alot of valuable time.

That's 40 hours you are not getting back and could be doing something more useful such as sleeping, reading, trolling on the interwebs. Actually, if you put the numbers in perspective.....your third job is "commuting" as you spend 40 hours a month doing so, it's another PT gig.
I drive 20 minutes and still think that's too much.
The distance I drove in college, so it's become part of the norm, if you knew the are you'd understand why so many people commute like I do, the county lines changes the pricing dramatically.
You're right it's 40 hours I'm pissing away. Unfortunately there isn't much as far as rooms for $600 bucks.
I think the most important thing to is to be debt free, paying off my car, harley, and student loans.
During this time I should be whittling down what I want to do with my career, start molding my resumes for that, and then going to interviews. Then deciding on where to move.

Im about the same age as you, and I kid you not, a couple of months ago this was the exact situation I was in.At times, I was even tempted to break the wagon and get drunk just to feel the angry fire once again.
You're stuck on a plateau in life because everything is a-okay.. not amazing, but not too bad either, and you have no time left after work. And because there's no real immediate force driving you (such as fear, major life challenges, the discomfort of being totally out of place) etc, you're not really forced to push yourself to focus on one thing and totally commit yourself to it. At the same time, there's this lurking discomfort (maybe its just getting closer to 30) itching away at the need to progress and transition smoothly or whatever.
Sharkie it's like you're speaking for me, exactly, there's not fight or flight mentality where I need to immediately get my shit together.
The comfort is dragging my drive and hung down. What you wrote is exactly how I feel.

I chose to focus on my job search and started out by listing my strengths/weaknesses/desires etc just like you did in your post, and then identified certain industries where there were relevant jobs available. Then, set about finding out alumni, family, friends, distant connections who could help me out with experience, know-how about how to break into the industries, or further redirect me to someone in a hiring position. While it started slowly, the whole process snowballed pretty fast to the extent that it actually became enjoyable. Simultaneously, my motivation and interest spiked because it seemed I was finally taking control of my life and working towards becoming better.
I think I need to do some digging/soul searching on what I'm actually really good, not just stuff I bullshit at work. I feel like alot of sales is bullshitting others. Don't get me wrong I feel like I've gotten better at reading people, understanding there needs, asking good questions, and being blunt. But there's always "filler" conversation.
What you did is commendable and you got your drive.
Quote:Also, its great to stabilize the other aspects of your life and have a cheerleader (a girlfriend, family, friends or just someone who has a similar interest) to keep you motivated and happy while you're going HAM on improving. Just my 2c.
Edit: Second MiscBrah's advice of not working as hard and focusing instead on upward mobility in terms of lifestyle, professional growth, sexual prowess or relationships. If you work too much and your focus is scattered, you dont have the time or mental energy to redirect towards growth, and time flies by just working and not doing anything consequential.
That bolded part above rings, true, spread too thing sometimes.
Don't have much family, but indeed I said in my earlier post, there's some inner drive in wanting to have a woman around, ONS's and plates are getting boring (until the next new notch

)
The friends with similar interests indeed help, speaking to 2 of my friends I hung out with this weekend. Dude 1 has toys, is successful and pulls girls. Dude 2 is on his way up, works hard, and is an approaching machine.
I decided to hangout with these guys this weekend at a random but big party where I knew noone outside my friends. I pushed myself to approach, to get wild, and it was productive. All my other friends are married, there is one guy whose married whose pretty balling.
Overall I think a good summary of this convo, is being completely debt free, while doing a little soul searching, and acting on my talents to apply for jobs that can use them.
Possibly finding a solid ride or die girl and adding more cardio.
Secondly would be once I find the type of job I want, or career, to then find a location in a city I want.
