It is morally wrong and unethical to not defend yourself from death and injury. Laws and ethics are not always on the same page. If it were me I would carry something if I was not skilled enough or comfortable enough to use my hands. A force multiplier does not always have to be a knife, stick, or gun. A strong can of pepper spray (not that wimpy shit, get the stuff that has a thick jet) can stop pieces of shit in their tracks. Just make sure you know what direction the wind is blowing before you spray, just pivot and spray quickly in a sweep then go for individual eyes. Once they get a taste most back off.

Bear grade spray or those ghost pepper level ones seem to be the best ones I have seen. Knowing the UK, yeah you might still go to jail for using it, but at least you did not stab or kill someone.

I don't recommend stun guns and tasers, especially in places with cold weather. Jackets and coats will defeat those prongs. There are actually a few videos of UK police getting wrecked by some scumbag after their stun guns failed. Even if the taser worked, if you stop their heart with it and they die, I am certain you will be on the hook for it.

Shit what about brass knuckles? You know for a fact if you can box well and get at least one punch on a piece of trash, you can believe it would be a 1 hitter quitter. Sometimes being old school can work out. Wearing knuckles you can probably jab-cross each guy and lay them down and keep moving in a circle on the outside. If you have a very bad arm reach length, would be probably the worse aspect of that. Clock a few and run and maybe you can get away. Goes without saying, toss the knuckles in a river later on.... I doubt thugs will snitch on that because it would mean they snitched on themselves, but too many dudes these days are pussy, I would not chance it.

Not sure what you mean about knives having limited stopping power-about 140 people were "stopped" permanently in London in 2018, mostly by knife, I guess it depens on the level of commitment.

Yes batons are forbidden in the UK (along with pepper spray, which is considered a firearm if you're stopped by the police), but flashlights are not. Neither are those motorcycle gloves with reinforced knuckles AFAIK. Personally I have a plastic "pressure tool" which doesn't look like a weapon but which can crack a skull open if used correctly.

I've gotten several PMs, in the past 2 years, from UK guys looking for advice on knife carrying. It is a touchy subject because the UK laws will not allow you to carry your own for protection, but it may be worth taking the risk to carry your own belt hidden karambit. Cannot fight a legal case if you are flayed dead on the street. Ethical carry and legal carry are two very different issues.

Even if you do not want to carry your own for the legal reasons, you guys over there may want to find a local class to learn how to disarm them and use them against the attacker. 9 Attackers are bad odds no doubt, but disarming the one with the knife and stabbing him or another, like a grapple and grab into a meat shield with the neck to his knife might stop the others. If it does not, slice his neck to show that you mean business, toss him and bolt if possible.

Regardless boxing dudes in the street is ridiculous. Today's world requires more skills and options than mere punching.

Have you ever disarmed a knife wielding attacker?

If not, this is simply circle jerking that might get people hurt.

The most effective defense against knives is running, or doubling down with a steel pipe or a gun.

Yeah, maybe I should have been clearer.

Here most people who carry knives have folders not fixed blades, so it's more slash than stab.
The problem is that with adrenaline you can slash quite some time before the guy notices it, unless it's in invalidating spots.
During that time the guy continues kicking your ass or worse.
But yes, after a couple of minutes chances are he'll die from the bleeding.
The problem is that to you in a fight a couple of minutes is basically eternity.

That's what I meant by low stopping power, but dramatic consequences afterwards.
Ideally you would want the opposite, something where one hit stops the guy right away, but with no subsequent injuries.

When I travel, I carry around a big carbon fiber umbrella with a pointy end. Most people keep the fuck away when they see me walking around and if anyone asks, I just say I thought it was going to rain.

If the one I have breaks I'm planning to one one of those self defence umbrellas that can smash a watermelon open.

I find it insane that this type of thing happens in the UK. I worked all though college as a bouncer in a busy beach bar with north of 1,000 covers a night and known for out of town tourists. Jersey Shore type crowd... Not many locals. I'm fit but of average build.. Not an intimidating type and still was never fucked with. We'd have a few scuffs but never any significant violence against staff and never use of weapons.

The fact that Brits smash glass bottles across each others heads on a daily basis with impunity... UK sounds like a seriously dangerous place. I'm glad I stayed safe during my visits there.

Stabbings are very common. A lot of Brits outside the big cities live in a bit of a bubble when it comes to violence. They still think drunk geezers starting fights at football is a problem.

The level of violence and methods used to inflict pain on others in places like London and Birmingham is immense.

Most stabbings don’t result in deaths, especially over the last decade, hospitals like kings college hospital and St. George’s have upped their game. If someone is admitted to hospital they rarely actually die.

Plus SO19 patrol around these areas and they are well trained with these sorts of serous injuries. Let alone paramedics.

I recommend watching street blogs on Instagram, it’s like a British version of Worldstar, shows you what England is like.

Are these the type of people who show up to calls where there's violence in Germany and then they have traffic cops or do they just patrol city streets to make people feel safe?

American cops are just always kitted out rolling with rifles but are more like trigger happy storm troopers who have to deal with the constitution/internal investigation (on average you'll know what your dealing with dependent upon area) than street super soldiers who hunt criminals at night seamlessly.

How come we dont hear about German militarized police unit killings is that rare or are american cops not getting the bad draw here with the sjws media coverage everytime they kill someone?
