Not sure where this post truly belongs. Just figured I would share this under the ongoing "Just How Bad is DC" thread to pay it forward since before I moved to DC in early 2010 for work I found out about Roosh (5 Best DC Bars to Meet Women) when googling good bars to meet women to hookup with. Currents (converted Dragonfly) and Front Page still deserve an honorable mention. Love the Front Page Thursday $2 Coronas. It can be slightly hit or miss so don't be afraid to bounce if nothing's cooking by midnight. Get to know their bartenders.

Before going further, need to disclose my demographical disclosure: 29/30 year old white guy running solo dolo and with cool guy/partier/traveler game and admittedly use looks, fitness level, and style to advantage.

I agree DC is a sinkhole of female talent... and rarely do people go out unless it's in a big "group" to celebrate either a kickball game or someone’s sister-in-law's roommate's best friend birthday, but when life gives you lemons, make lemonade! We all know the area attracts boring people... and of course (for the most part) a pretty girl isn't going to go into policymaking. Women seem to be lazy in that way... rarely if one has beauty will she apply her brains (and vica versa), but oh well. But I've have had good experiences in my job rotation year and a half here, picking up +19 last year and +9 (actually having a fly girlfriend keeping me down) this year. Be rested assured the notches must pass Roosh's ego-test – a man must be willing to be seen in public holding hands walking around the Mall with their conquest. Good times considering juggling a work travel lifestyle and a demanding job... while accompanying a fewer of the flier girls on out-of-town sojurns before actually trying to hang out more with a woman I met that’s worth my time. Probably in the DC area the most pleasing woman you will meet will work in a feminine field, say a schoolteacher (not in education policy, lol!). A charter jet flight attendant who openly aspired to be a Playboy Playmate would have to be one of my highlights.

Tips:

Go out early ahead of the wave! 10 to 11:30 p.m. will be primetime while all the chumps stuffed with greasy food have left, and the douchebags and their “crew” are still pre-drinking, yo! You'll have higher quality and more receptive women to choose from. Skip happy hours. It's a decidedly non-sexual vibe with the work and kickball crowd, with beta orbiter galore = yeck. Go to the gym instead to get pumped for the nighttime.

Use POF! Set up a page and log in a few times a week to keep your profile active and displayed as a potential match to other girls online. Don't be afraid to write a restrictive profile so you come off as the "man that knows what he wants" writing that you're only attracted to women that have worldly experience and are into modeling and fitness, etc. so only legitimate girls write you. You'll get a few messages a month.

Consider meetup groups. I've attended events from the "20s and 30s Going Out Meet Up" group and there's a few decent nighttime events and you're never committed to it if you don't like the people there. Warning: The coordinator T.J. is a beta who will slowly become less friendly as he realizes you're banging a different girl from each event. Skip the daytime events. Focus on the Boat Cruise (do it at least once, but is pricey), Club AmBUSh (skip the routine Ultrabar final stop – T.J. used to bartend there and actually thinks it is a good time – see much ridiculed Ultrabar picture posted in this forum), open Club Nights, Halloween party, etc. nighttime events which are just the way to go. Girls won't be attending unless they are actually looking to meet someone, and to make your job easier, they will be wearing a glow bracelet for easy hunting (you can even just look at the calendar and figure out the bar line up if you don't want to be part of the group and can usually get into places without being charged cover).

Check out groups such as the International Club of DC and Embassy Events. I strongly recommend the French Embassy Summer Gala and Discotheque at the National Postal Museum. Huge bashes with fly and mysterious girls.

Dewey! Shameless girls of the DC area (and some trashy Baltimore/Philly) that like to drink and fuck go here for summer weekends. The advanced move is to not book an expensive house share or hotel. Just go out there channeling Nikki from the movie "Spread." If you must, reserve (or sneak into) a $40/night campsite (access showers are a must during the muggy summer) as a backup. Plenty of beach party houses (bars close at 1 a.m. so find a party to drink all the beer bought by the providers and fuck their girls on the couches). Parking is difficult but there's metered parking until midnight that keeps spaces available (by the Subway) within walking distance to the Starboard and the other bars close by.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge traffic and drive can be a pain, so there's... Georgetown Waterfront for summer nights. Good if you got solo game down. Sequoia and Tony and Joe's. Hang out at the corner of a bar and see what happens.

Other honorable mentions (everyone has their favorite line-up of bars, so in no way is this an authoritative list, just a sampling of what works for me):

Rock Bottom Wednesday night (showcases the pretty girls of Arlington that like to drink), show up at 8 and watch them drink $1.50 drafts until 9. If need to transition and get more “hands on”, bring your new acquaintance to Union Jacks for the dance floor/energy. If it was a no-go in Arlington, jet over to ESL and the other Dupont clubs (slower = better since only deranged girls go out late night in the middle of the week), and hang at corner against wall of upstairs bar.

Public Bar weekends gets the crowd if you’re into the numbers game. Stake out by the corner of the second floor bar close to the women's bathroom line.

Skip Clarendon (no, seriously). Courthouse might be better. Gua Rapo and Ireland Four Courts if you must.

Don't overlook Old Town in Alexandria. Much more laid back vibe. Noted that cops are horrendous on the GW so tone back the drinking if returning the DC same night.

Fireworks, you must either have model good-looks or A+ game to speak so positively of this city. DC is a graveyard of PUA's and even Roosh would tell you it sucks big time. I've lived here for 22 years and couldn't be more disappointed when I compare it to places like Philly, NYC, and even Baltimore. Much friendlier girls there and better looking on average.

Btw, comments like "Skip Clarendon (no, seriously). Courthouse might be better. Gua Rapo and Ireland Four Courts if you must." make me loose respect for you! Courthouse has nothing on Clarendon. While Clarendon is full of douche bag's it still consistently has some of the hottest girls in the DC area.
I live 2 blocks away from Gua Rapo and it is a shithole unless one is a Spanish looking dude who go's with a mixed-group to smoke hookah or listen to Brazilian/S. American music. The last few times i've gone there the ratio has been 4 guys to 1 girl and most girls were there with a man! Ireland Fourt Courts is not much different except that the quality is way worse (plenty of heffers if that's your scene).

I'll have to agree with Hokie here. I live in Courthouse and the bars suck here. Four courts has zero talent on any night I've ever been there. There also one of those crap bars that serve all macrobrew crap. At least give me one or two real brews to choose from at least. Whitlows is by far the best bar IMO. Spider Kelly's has good talent but the ratios are absolutely horrible. Thursdays are even good at both bars but ratio is even worse, particularly after 12:00.

Being good looking helps. Jesus, I can't imagine being an ugly or even average looking dude in Arlington. The pretty girls are ruthless b/c they know there is only 1 of them to every 20 guys.

A cute girl (one of the only two on our entire side of the bar) opened me last night and was complaining about all the creepy guys hovering around her (they all looked normal and non-creep to me). She gave them fake names, haha. Also, I was with two female friends, not chopped liver by any means, and a dude comes over to us three. Dude is dressed well and good looking (so I thought, but girls disagreed) and my friends straight up shoot this dude down. I couple short answers to his questions and basically ignored him. It was painful.

Never been out in DC. It's funny, I almost want to go just to see how bad everybody's been saying it is.

I can't really think of anywhere I've been in the US that has a good ratio that I like to hang out at. Even here in Miami where everyone seems to think is the pussy mecca of the world. The ratios are still TERRIBLE. Sure, if you go to some of the high end nightclubs the ratios might be alright, but good luck getting in without paying at least a $100 bar tab minimum. And most of those places, unless you have a table and a bottle, you won't be getting too much love. Any high end place on a good night is gonna be hard or expensive to get into, because the easier they make it to get into, the more dudes come. That's just the way it works in the US. Damn I miss the days in Brazil where I would go to clubs and the ratio would be 3 girls to 1 guy.

While living in dc, I was always shocked every time I went out in NYC and the girls opened easily and were friendly, and the quality was so much better than the dc equivalent.

The thing I didn't get is that they were so obsessed what guys did for a living, but it seemed no answer was good enough to impress them. It had a weird way of giving them a subconscious advantage by starting the qualification mentality right off the bat. My best results in dc have been where job never came up in the discussion.

My list was unauthoritative and I wouldn't focus on just 1 item. You'll have to find an optimal mix that works for you.

Clarendon has a lot more hot air and I find Courthouse more chill, there's nothing wrong with 180ing out of a place if you don't like the crowd. I call it window shopping. Regardless, I'd rather be in DC.

It helps to have A+ game... been out in the field for almost 10 years now. Living in DC has sharpened it to killer, which makes travel outside the area memorable =)

Gaming the check out line at wholefoods on P St has got to be better than any place in VA/MD.

I said one HOT girl per 20 guys, and I was particularly talking about the locations I mentioned (spider kellys on a Thursday).

If you want me to throw out a good bar where I've actually seen plenty of attractive girls and a good ratio: Rhino Bar in Gtown or McFaddens in Foggy Bottom. Both are huge college bars (gtown and GW, respectively), so you've gotta be cool with 18-22 yos.

Josephine's on a friday night seems to have a good ratio of hot girls.
Barcode on Saturday Nights seem to have a very good ratio as well. Quite a few Indian and Middle Eastern girls

I think Dupont South can be acceptable some times (NOT weekends) because of the college populations.

I don't even go out on weekends here, it isn't worth the time. Weeknights can be great though.

EDIT: I also want nothing to do with girls who know/care what fucking Bisnow is. College chicks or recent grads with bullshit jobs only plz, or young recent divorcees, of which I've met several for some reason. IMO 90% of the time if a girl actually has worthwhile professional employment in this town, she'll be no fun. People make their lives about their jobs.

I agree with you on this. But when I first moved here in 07 this was not the case. Grand central and tom toms used to have a lot young college chics running around. Now Admo is either a sausagefest or a ghost town.

Dupont south used to be my preferred place to party. Best looking women in the city at that point. Now it's pretty bad. I'm not sure if young women have stopped going out or the talent we had in those days just up and left the area.

I even remember 2 1/2 years ago back in the beginning to middle of 2009, there were plenty of attractive chicks who were in Fair Oaks and Tysons Mall. Recently when I went there, I felt a tension in the air, that brought down my mood when i usually try to hunt lol.. There's only either families or jailbait these days there .

I'd actually forgotten about this post. But I'm beyond thrilled I revisited it. I never thought this would generate the quality discussion I was looking for, so thanks to all and I'll definitely be a more frequent visitor from now on.

An update from my end: I've followed through with much of the advice I've read and have been jetting out of DC nearly every weekend. I've even upped the pace some more (9 out of the last 10 weekends). The results have been great and the difference has been astounding. I've been in the form of my life and probably 70-80 percent of nights out have been making out with a hot chick in my venue of choice and have closed a few quality ladies. (None of which you would even FIND in DC). Even pulled a gorgeous model from LA one night. (Believe it not, beautiful, funny, witty, and relatively smart?! Ha what's the likelihood of finding that in DC?) I've gone all over - NYC, Philly (3x, it's home for me), Vegas (twice), and the Jersey Shore (the good part).

I've just had some of the best times of my life, but it's also been a major downer coming back here (My apartment looks like an explosion of open suitcases and laundry, basically the Monday-Friday bicoastal commuter's apartment that, in essence, is exactly what it has become. This was my first weekend back here in a while and suffice to say, I don't have much to report from my time out. Shocker.

Since my quality of life has been so high elsewhere, I've made the decision to leave, probably to New York but am open to other locations as well. At this point I don't even care if it involves a pay cut. Life's too short. It really is that bad here. To those of you reading this that don't live here, all I can say is that it's a place you can't fully understand until you've experienced it for 6 mos - one year. It's truly unlike anywhere in the country (Not only with respect to picking up girls either, as I'm sure many other DCers will attest).

Dong - Found your post inspiring man. It really hit the nail on the head and put things in perspective. I'm 32, and more than ever do I realize life is short.

You said it best, "I spent six years there, while bitching and moaning about the lack of quality trim and shitty weather for the last three. Now I'm hunting for a job while figuring out the scene in FL. I could keep sitting there at my desk job and thinking about moving, but I did that for a few years and nothing was changing. That's precisely how I've been feeling and precisely why I've made the decision to leave. Couldn't put it any better myself.

Fireworks - We need to talk, man!! I won't bash your optimistic post about DC. I will say that it's FAR AND AWAY the most optimistic post I've ever read about game in DC, but I can't bash it. In fact, I'm thrilled to know there's anyone out there who's been able to rack up such quality numbers over a year and a half period in such an awful environment of averageness. I've probably scored 6-7 girls that pass the ego-test here (for me that means a solid 8 or above), but that's not very many and for me, is an unacceptable strike-rate as we like to say in soccer. I disagree with some of your assessments on venues in terms of talent/ratio, but would love to hear more of your thoughts on DC.

The vast majority of my quality notches that pass the ego-test, during the time I've lived here, have come while out of town (A strange stat when you think about it. but it's true.) Yet another reason I'm happy to leave the first chance I get.

On a side note - I got to thinking for over two hours on a recent train back to DC about what precisely makes it so different than other cities. I concluded it's an amazing topic that probably merits a full demographic thesis. Thank god I won't be here long enough to write it, but I'd definitely read it even after leaving DC. Sure, we hear the frequent citations of large amounts of policy-oriented, MA-wielding 5s and 6s carrying an extra 20 lbs., and DC's propensity to attract academic-oriented girls that put almost ZERO effort into their looks (and its subsequent propensity to repel party chicks) But I always come back to numbers. Simply out of the sheer 5.5 million people in the metropolitan area, you'd think there'd be something. But no, it really is that bad. Surely there must be something more to it. A topic for another time...

It seems that some people on here bash the quality of people in general in DC, but I've not found that to be true.

I've made great friends here (mostly male, some females). To me the problem solely lies in the attractiveness of the women. It's really a good city and its a shame that the singles/dating scene is such crap, which IMO is simply a supply and demand issue, namely a severe lack of quality looking women.

Every time I go to Miami the difference completely blows my mind. Its astonishing.

It shouldn't be mindblowing.

DC is one trick pony Political City. With Museums, Tourism and everything else that makes it the Capital.

Miami is "the gateway to Latin America" that revolves around Nightlife, Models, Restuarants, Tourism, the beach and Hotels.

Both cities attract a very different demographic.

It really shouldn't be surprising which city has 300 times hotter girls.

I have said it before and I will say it again: American cities become self-fulfilling prophecies.
