Pokemon, magic, and yugioh are still around and cards sell (albeit not as popular anymore). Pokemon has the widest age range.

I can't think of any other competive/collectable card game that can compete with those, maybe Bakugan? I occasionally sell secondhand merchandise, and the saddest part is seeing the people interested in it. No self-discipline or ambition!

It's almost like the zombie apocalypse, with all these goofy ass people gathered in hordes, staring intently down at the screen.

I may have posted here already, but on the upside a lot of pretty cute manic pixie dream girls are out and about.

Street approaching a chick distracted on Pokemon is pretty easy. I highly recommend it.

Of course people have been lost in their phones and other activities for quite some time, but there is a distinct and clear difference since this game came out, it is far beyond the norm.

The suddenness with which it has happened, and the sheer volume are most striking. There were never this many people in parks staring at phones just prior the phenomenon. I walk in a dense urban area daily, and it's easy to see the change that has happened.

We have already been over this, you and me. People are mentally blanking it out.

When people keep hitting you with arguments you have already heard that don't take into count your responses, they are in a state of denial and cannot be reasoned with.

I wouldn't bother going over this stuff all over again.

Did any of you get a bang from this app yet? If it is helping guys get laid, I am all for it, I have not started playing, if it looks like the fad is going to last for months or years and a lot of women are playing, then I'd give it a shot.

If they were walking around a cemetery filled with veteran graves, the old dude would have a point. Seems to me he is pretending that a park is actually a memorial in order to have an excuse to get mad at kids these days. Impossible to tell though from this vid what is going on.

Maybe his version of Pokemon is walking around hunting for imaginary grievances that his mind is overlaying on reality.

I agree with Neubache. The winner is the one you feel less revulsion for, not any real winners here. The Pokemon players all seem like shitheads too, people who only have rights and no responsibilities.

Maybe the old guy is overreacting, but you don't have to taunt him, he is obviously a little nutty. Would it hurt you to just go play your game somewhere else?

I'm a lifelong gamer (even player amateur level Starcaft & CounterStrike tournaments) so I'm definitely not here to shame anyone. Having sat on both sides of the aisle - playing every waking hour vs not having a single game installed, I can say there is room for moderation.

Overall gaming, even Pokemon GO, can have net zero negative effect on your life and game if you are a disciplined person. One of the most successful players (PUAs) I know spends hours every week playing CS:GO.

However, for most men I strongly recommend keeping away from games like CS:GO, Pokemon GO, or MMORPGs. The potential for harm is far greater than any benefit from short term relaxation.

Why? The addictive nature of the games themselves reward you for spending extra time on the game than you normally would.

Beneficial: After a long day at work and/or the gym, you unwind by setting aside 30 minutes to play simcity/duck hunt/whatever.

Harmful: You go to the park to work out, but spend an additional 30 minutes walking around looking for pokemon because you just know there are some good ones there. OR you finish another counterstrike match, it sucked and in anger you immediately queue up to play another. An hour investment just turned into 2 hours you could be doing anything else.

^ Agreed. I've been a hardcore gaming addict in the past. Starcraft, and Diablo 2 were my games of choice. Damn Blizzard used to make some quality games.

Anyway, I don't think most of the critics in this thread have articulated their problems with Pokemon GO other than "it's gay". That being said I am still a critic.

Here's the rub. We are men. We aren't supposed to swoon... to oooh and ahhh over the newest thing. That shit is effeminate. Like it or not, many members here are not immune to groupthink and to being blind followers of what they perceive to be hip or cool.

I don't know about you all but I like to zig when everyone else is zagging. That means when "everyone" is in love with a new "thing" that I immediately cast a skeptical eye on it. That's just how I see the world.

Playing some video games? Fine.

Jumping on the bandwagon on whatever is the latest fad (and it is a fad, just as it was in the late 90s)? Suspect.

And the argument that girls are playing is fucking stupid.

I tried to play it Sunday, and the stupid servers weren't working. So I just went for a walk anyway and listened to a bunch of youtube videos on piano playing.

That said, the argument that you shouldn't play something because a lot of other people are playing it seems a little strange to me.

Were you attempting to use a "trainer account" or a "gmail linked account"?

I personally think that they purposefully make it more difficult to use trainer accounts in order to incentivize folks to create and link a gmail account. Any other guys share my theory? or am I looney? (don't answer the last question, that's just rhetorical)

When you set up the Pokemon Go account, it gives you the option to create a trainer account or to link the account to gmail.

When I created my first account, I did not recall whether I had a Gmail account, so I just set up a trainer account. I had several connection and crash issues with that trainer account and at one point, I got logged out and I could not get logged back in, so I created a gmail connected account, and that gmail linked account has been working pretty good so far for me. I haven't really had any of the previous connection/crash issues since after creating the gmail linked account.

Finally released in Asia. Scoped out the talent, as expected quite poor, 80% dudes along with some nerdy girls and one 6 with her boyfriend.

Fun to play though but for pick up probably not ideal. This is at a central location in the city where all those lures are set up. How the hell some people have level 4000 pokemon is a bit insane.
