Bellator fighter knocks opponent out and celebrates by throwing a pokeball at him
Quote:Michael "Venom" Page and Cyborg Santos faced off at Bellator 158, but after watching this clip, Page’s main focus may not have been the fight itself. As grimacing as the flying knee was that ended their fight, Page’s post-fight celebration might have hurt more.
Page didn’t even wait to see his opponent get up. He immediately rushed back to his corner to get a few props — a damn Pokemon trainer hat and a pokeball. He put the hat on, showed the pokeball to the audience and then gently rolled it to Santos. Gotta catch ‘em all, right?

This. I had a pretty similar reaction to Pokemon which is very well expressed the "Chinpokomon" episode of South Park. Except for the "red flag" part. It's a pretty good sign of a feminized guy but I've known some pretty cool chicks who liked it....including one that probably would have made a move on with an eye towards marrying her if I'd been mature enough to see her merits at the time (sexually inexperienced, extremely nice + submissive personality, good domestic skills, soft spot for kids and animals).
I do like the outdoors wandering aspect better though. I've had Ingress installed on my phone for awhile and I use the app in part to help me find interesting routes. I've found a lot of interesting little things like hard to find trails, murals, etc using it. However I don't think Pokemon has quite the same value in that regard both because it has fewer points of interest on its map and because Ingress's gameplay encourages you travel long distances through its "control field" mechanic that requires you to link three separate locations in order to control territory.

Imams Revive Decade-Old Fatwa: Pokemon Go Is Haram
Quote:The most prestigious religious institution in Islam has reaffirmed a 2001 fatwa against the Japanese cartoon Pokemon, with its clerics calling the new game Pokemon Go a “harmful mania… that makes people look like drunkards in the streets.”
Abbas Shuman, deputy head of Al Azhar, issued a statement branding Pokemon Go haram on Thursday, condemning the game’s potential to attract “lunatics” to mosques looking to catch the game’s signature creatures within. “Will people neglect their work and earning their living and devote themselves instead to hunting for Pokemon?” he asked.
“This game makes people look like drunkards in the streets and on the roads while their eyes are glued to the mobile screens leading them to the location of the imaginary Pokemon in the hope of catching it,” he asserted.
Al Azhar is considered the premier Islamic academic institution and its university the heart of Islamic theological thought. It is not, however, the only Islamic institution to come out against Pokemon Go this week.
The head of Turkey’s Diyanet, the government’s official Islamic agency, condemned the game as having the potential of trivializing mosques identified as “Pokestops,” locations where players can pick up useful items in the game. Pokemon Go, imam Mehmet Bayraktutar argued, “undermines the significance and value of places where people worship.” He also, according to Agence France-Presse, “suggest[ed] the game was a western plot against Islam.”

Chill out Chad Thundercock. It's ironic that your avatar looks straight out of Skyrim or World of Warcraft. I had a gamer roommate in college so I'm familiar with it all, but have never really played video games myself outside of Nintendo 64 as a kid. I've never owned a console as an adult.
I played the original Pokemon on Gameboy Color. I got excited when I heard about Pokemon Go. I thought anything that gets gamers outside would be a net positive. But I downloaded it and played around with it last weekend and realized I wasn't a fan. No worries, it's just not for me.
"I know one guy who partook in X and was Y, therefore everyone who does X must be Y." Give me a break. It's cool if you aren't into playing it, I'm not either. But to assume everyone who plays Pokemon Go is like some loser your sister dated is beyond moronic.

It's his yard.
By what sort of magical thinking was this omitted from your response?
No one cares what you do if it doesn't affect them.
At least the guy went to the trouble to tie Pokemon Go into other fads and make it funny.
This mentality is part of why this phenomenon is annoying.
It is like you are saying, no one but me has rights, and if you have anything to say about it, you are the one being selfish.
This is what is delusional and anti-social, the way people think that that they have a right to do what they want especially when it is annoying or dangerous to other people.
Just go down and play by the beach:
Quote:In North San Diego County, two men fell off a bluff while playing the smartphone game, while farther north in Anaheim, a player was stabbed by group of men in a park recently.
The incidents come as law enforcement agencies across the nation are reporting a plethora of Pokemon-related attacks and odd happenings since the game was released last week.
On Wednesday, firefighters rescued two men who fell several stories off the crumbling sandstone bluff in Encinitas, according to authorities. The men, who were in their early 20s, were playing “Pokemon Go” at the time and likely were led to the cliff when they were trying to catch characters, said Sgt. Rich Eaton of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
One man fell 75 to 100 feet. As firefighters rescued the man, they found the second man unconscious 50 feet down the bluff, said Battalion Chief Robbie Ford of the Encinitas Fire Department. Both were taken to area trauma centers and suffered moderate injuries, he said.
The men, according to firefighters, had crossed a fenced area to get to the bluff.
“I think people just need to realize this is a game,” Eaton said. “It’s not worth your life. No game is worth your life.”

Oh great, now we have the firemen whining because they had to rescue us. And to top it all off, a policeman lectured us, as if public safety is any of his business.

I did decide to download Pokemon GO; however, just to test it out and to get a little bit of an idea regarding some of the current hype. I am thinking that my downloading and my rudimentary experimentation with it might be a little bit of a conversation piece in some social circles.
I am the opposite, games tend to get boring over time, for example, racing games like Need For Speed, Gran Turismo etc get me bored the same day I pick it, I am more into Zelda, Uncharted, The Witcher, Tomb Raider type game.
