I'm sure a reasonable explanation exists for all of this. The young lady likely didn't want to release the phone because it contained potentially valuable scientific and technical IP she had been working while trying to make ends meet by holding down three jobs. The theft can be chalked up to necessity. -- a starving entrepreneur making a bad choice to realize her dreams.

These videos are a wealth of lessons and material. Go towards the end, where her boyfriend is being interviewed by the cop and totally herded toward being an accessory to the shoplifting or suspect.

He's providing his ID, his name, their address, answering questions and then the cop says "so you didn't know she was stealing things?"...game over man. You're being pinned as an accessory.

His best move would have been to keep a very safe distance and left once he saw she was being loaded onto medical.

Funny story:

A few weeks age we had these 2 shady ass females in the shop I run, they were trying things on and taking there time. One was this tall ugly crater faced tweaker, the other was a fatty.

I told 2 employees to keep tabs on them, as they left the store, 1.5 hours later - one of my employees found clothing sensors and tags in the dressing room.

I told the 2 to chase them down and confront them.

Long story short, they barely opened their purses, tweaker girl got in one of my employees faces, which he simply said you need to walk away. He told me he found a shitton of brand new girls panties in her purse. He found articles of clothing, which she claimed she got at Wal Mart. As they walked away I yelled "BYE FELICIA" she gave me a look of death

Cops were called, but they said they couldn't do much.

These bitches didn't even leave the shopping center, they went to fucking STARBUCKS a few doors down.

This fucking did it for me, I told an employee to tail them, take pictures and keep me updated.

Finally they left the shopping center and finally the cops called us back.

They found them, and detain them on the curb.

Immediately were searched and found one or 2 items, but could find the other items.

The fatty Mexican immediately denied any responsibility and threw all the blame on tweaker girl.

Tweaker gets cuffed - fatty is being released she picks up tweakers purse and jacket.

The jacket falls to the ground - showing the other stolen items. Fatty starts crying claiming she didn't know and that it's tweaker girls jacket.

Cop says "these mother fuckers" and throws the tweaker girl in the car.

She's not sad, she's fucking angry the cunt, she's huffing, and glares. We laugh and fatty walks away crying.

FUCK bitches who steal and think they can get away with it.

No fucking mercy.

Retail loss prevention security is a thankless, difficult job bro. The case described in the story linked below led to a complete overhaul of security and investigation law and licensing in Ontario, Canada:

The thief in the above case, Patrick Shand was an overweight crack-head stealing baby food from a grocery store in Toronto in 1999. When security guards tackled him and pinned him down in the parking lot outside, he died from "accidental restraint asphyxia". In other words, he was too fat and out of shape to handle being pinned down, and so he suffocated and died. The guards were unaware that he was suffocating while they had him pinned. Interesting side note I found out after studying the case... the junkies aren't usually stealing the baby food to feed babies, they're stealing it to mix drugs in some sort of street-pharma concoction.

Her behavior was what you get when you've never been forced to take responsibility for anything in your entire life. And it was funny that the boyfriend and the cop both remarked on her ridiculous behavior, and the boyfriend admitted that those antics have gotten her out of trouble in the past.
