Crazy. I can only imagine what the punishment would be if a guy did the same thing - a night in jail at the very least. Regardless, the internet reaction over this in support of the driver (I haven't seen a single post justifying her actions) gives me some hope for our society.

America is a very sad place.

One of my friends got married to an American Iranian chick... he is Iranian born/Sweddish.

This girl got super drunk one day, I mean wasted, out of her MIND drunk, was extremely altered, she gets home and starts screaming at him "You just married me cause you wanted a greencard!! You ASSHOLE!! You liar! I hate you, I want you out of my life forever!!!"

She was a Beverly Hills girl, her family was rich, so she grew up super entitled... but her parents didn't give her money anymore (they disapproved of her marriage), my friend made good money working on a TV show and ALL OF IT was disappearing because of this girls expenses.

She didn't have a job, she was studying psychology, but still wanted to get all the most expensive services (manicure, hair) like if her parents were still paying for everything.

Continuing the story...

This girl screamed like a maniac (it was 4 in the morning). She called him all the curse words you can ever imagine in english. She got really close to his face, screaming at him,
making him feel like shit, so he pushed her away from his face.

What did she do?

She started screaming "Don't hit me you ASSHOLE. You hit me. You hit me!!!!!". She makes even more of a crazy fuss.

All the neighbours were waking up, lights were turning on all over the neighbourhood. They eventually called the cops (as people in the US normally would do).

The cops got there and this girl is saying "He is crazy! He is an asshole, look he hit me right in my face"

Obviously the cops believe her version in the start.

The cops started talking to my friend, my friend is incredibly calm (I would be pissed) saying "Look, I did not hit her. I don't know what's happening to her. She's drunk and altered"

The cops also couldn't find any signs of agression. Which could only prove she was either crazy OR it was a little push or something.

The girl finally calls her rich family. My friend is still there, dealing with the cops and the whole situation on this horrible situation. Her family finally arrives and takes her side, logically. They never liked my friend.

So then what happens?? They tell my friend to leave the apartment. His wife does not want to see him.

Here's the situation, my friend pays all the bills, he pays for the apartment... and he is thrown out of HIS apartment (the one he is paying for).

He gets inside his car and drives around. He doesn't know what to do. It's a very cold night (as cold as it can get in LA) and it's early morning, when the weather is the coldest. He doesn't have money to spend, because if he does he can't pay for the rent, the one he was just thrown out of.

He pretty much was goint to have to sleep inside his freezing cold car, his luck is that after calling me like 10 times (my cellphone was on vibrate) I finally picked up and after learning about the situation I said "Dude, come to my place, you can sleep in my sofa"

This was one of the craziest experiences I have ever heard about in my life. It was devastating.

I think it's crazy that in the US, girls can treat you like ABSOLUTE shit and you're not supposed to do nothing, they throw you out of your house
and take all the masculinity out of you, but if you touch her she screams "Asshole, you hurt me!" and calls the cops.

Another hidden lesson here is that Uber is not always the panacea that people make it out to be.

Yeah, it's cheaper than a taxi. Or it at least appears to be cheap.

But everything comes with a cost. With actual licensed taxis, both driver and passenger have some recourse if things turn bad. Taxis are licensed, bonded, insured, and everyone understands the rules of the game.

Not so Uber.

As a driver who's moonlighting or doing hack work, you're taking a risk. As we see here.

It caters to the laziness and "click" mentality of the modern millenial, who wants everything on his fucking slave chain smart phone.

If you're a passenger, you're taking a risk. It may not be a big risk, but it is foolish to pretend that there is no downside risk.

My point is that I think we as a society--and millenials especially--have come too much to adopt the "cheapo" or "free" mentality. If you want good products or services, you need to be prepared to pay.

Too many people want to play shit cheap, and then whine about the bad results or outcomes they got.

Everything has a cost. That cost may be hidden--as in social media, where you quietly surrender your privacy--or it may be more overt.

But nothing is free. Or nothing worth anything is free, I should say.

I'm not saying "Don't use Uber" or "Don't drive for Uber." But beware of hidden costs and risks.

Your friend is EXTREMELY lucky he didn't get arrested. Many/most states have "will arrest" guidelines for "domestic" situations. The Federal government actually awards grants to states and cities that incentivizes arrests.

IF, IF I ever married in the USA (never happening), separate residences would be a must. As insane as that may sound, the possible alternatives, including the one you posted, are worse. And if you live together, the man will be made to pay for the residence even if he's thrown out. You're stuck living in a cardboard box? Tough shit. Try getting the utilities out of your name - you can end up getting arrested.

Living with a woman in this country is akin to keeping a rabid animal as a pet. Even if it's asymptomatic, a breakout could occur at any time, just like your friend experienced. I drove Uber for about a month and did quite well until they cut rates. It's now down to $1.10 per mile in Vegas. I used to get $30 to drive people to the strip and now it's half that. Not worth the time, gas, wear-and-tear, etc, plus I got a new job that's keeping me more than busy.

Regardless, Uber is interesting. The company gives zero fucks about their drivers. Their business model is to zerg rush the rideshare industry and get as many people signed up as possible. Mostly likely to data mine for the inevitable release of autonomous vehicles (AV). We'll most likely see AVs rolled out in high traffic, low speed environments like the Vegas strip or in dense downtown areas like Manhattan.

So the current Uber drivers are nothing more than a cheap stand-in for robots. There are some places in the U.S. that pay more per mile, but my understanding is that Uber rates are controlled by an algorithm that reacts to supply and demand. The more Uber drivers there are willing to work for a specific rate, the lower that rate eventually drops. Good for customers, bad for drivers.

And eventually, bad for customers too. You get what you pay for. My passengers consistently told me how awesome my ride is. While not a Lexus, my ride is fully loaded, was set up to play their music (in a premium sound system), I kept my car spotless, leather seats, with yours truly behind the wheel. On Fridays and Saturdays I was making $300 per day, clearing $1000 per week. Not bad for a job with no boss and all I had to do was drive people around and chat them up. Plus it was fun.

Now, at $1.10 per mile, the only drivers in Vegas are going to be Pakistani or Eritrean immigrants with a bare bones Corolla that smells like stale bread and onions.

In the grand scheme of things, ridesharing is a step in the right direction. Car ownership is largely a giant waste of money. But as stories like these show, there's going to be a few bumps on the way.

What's ironic about this particular story is that, while the justice system fails here, there is true social justice. Social justice is not standing up for people that are offended. Real social justice is the tar-and-feathing of this little twat. The online reviews and harassment, that's what true social justice looks like. It's maintaining a moral code and deciding as a society, "We will not tolerate this behavior."

Uber might also end up getting crushed in the developed world as bureaucracy and laws tighten up. Plus it's hard to keep up with cost of living as a driver as you said. The market end of it is pretty tricky because uber has to be more economical than existing ride services but has to maintain supply of drivers too. Bad publicity effects Uber a lot more than a shitbag taxi driver.

With that being said Uber has been a godsend in the developing world parts of Asia. Especially when you don't have to deal with rip off public taxis which can also be dangerous sometimes too.

The region of my upbringing afforded me few opportunities to interact with Indian immigrants. College was my first exposure but a lot the guys seemed like dorks and the girls were largely hairy, ugly, and smelly so I only noticed them from afar.

Could Indian immigrant behavior (especially female behavior) be attributed to the caste system still in place in that country? I'm inclined to think so. Western society gets the creme de la creme of the Indian population. No Untouchables or rat catchers/eaters are going to Cambridge and Harvard. It's only the spoiled refuse of upper castes who are groomed to literally believe certain people are less worthy of decency, housing, cleanliness, TOILETS, etc, who come to our countries and believe they can continue to treat everyone around them like shit.

There's definitely a bit of caste attitude with some spoiled indian kids but a lot of indian immigrants in the U.S. are sikh. Sikhs are a bit different than standard Indians since they are a little outside that society and marginalized in their own country to begin with. They don't take that much of a caste attitude that i've seen. Newer indian immigrants..especially new money immigrants are the ones who are likely to have that sort of attitude.

However just about everytime i've encountered indians abroad it's always been an unpleasant experience. I don't socialize with them anywhere but they've always been rude and condescending to people around them. This is easily observable behavior. Locals in most Asian countries are usually repulsed by them intuitively. I'm not referring to most western born indians but indians from india.
