I was dating a European Girl visiting Oz years back and, one day, discovered her squatting in the laundry sink, cleaning herself.

She explained she was horrified by how filthy and unhygienic Australian's were based upon our lack of bidets.

I said I got why she was doing it, but, "Why didn't you just use the bathtub?"

Now I've travelled more, I think she's right. They're so damn obvious in function that the lack of one seems both idiotic and gross.

That kinda makes me wonder what happened to bidets. They were apparently pretty popular in the past, at least here. I still remember having one back when I was a kid, but we removed it for some reason before I started going to school and I've never seen another one again. It's like they ran out of fashion.

Most high-end places still have them or you invest into the more advanced toilet:

Some even have strong ventilators built in, so that no smell reaches the delicate nose.

I've had girls thank me for having the flushable version of those in the bathroom.

I had a toilet / bidet combo model planned for when I next renovated the WC. Now I'm moving on, it's obviously not a priority.

Let me clear up a few things here:

[Image: jharkhand-poo-protest_650x400_61426742793.jpg]

This is deliberate public shitting as a form of protest

Quote:Amid marches, dharnas and petitions, a group of tribal villagers in Jharkhand launched the most unique protest yet against the Narendra Modi government's land reforms.

Led by land rights activists, about 60 villagers gathered in front of the Barwadih block office in Naxal-affected Latehar last Sunday and defecated on copies of the proposed amendments to the land acquisition act.

Those who led the protest said the aim was to shock and make a point, and have said they plan to hold similar agitations across Jharkhand, which is ruled by Mr Modi's BJP.

India from 5000 years ago

Quote:Toilets that used water were used in the Indus Valley Civilization. The cities of Harappa and Mohenjo-daro had a flush toilet in almost every house, attached to a sophisticated sewage system.

I think the public shitting is due to a lack of education and poverty. This isn’t just Indians, there’s plenty of examples of mainland Chinese taking shits in public. Europeans used to shit everywhere too - this is the UK:

Quote:However inside toilets were a luxury in the 19th century. In the late 19th century working class homes almost always had outside lavatories. About 1900 some houses were built for skilled workers with bathrooms and inside toilets. However it was decades before inside toilets became universal.

There were public lavatories in the Middle Ages and the 16th century. For instance we know there was one over the River Fleet at London. However public lavatories were rare at that time. Often people went wherever they could. In 1547 people were forbidden to go in the courtyards of royal palaces so presumably it must have been a real nuisance.

You can see in the video a guy taking a shit in the beach. He wipes with his bare left hand.

These people live in a slum, so they shit where they can. Indians wash their arses when they take a shit – isn’t that cleaner?

I use one of these in my place in Los Angeles

My family is from Punjab in India. I’ve seen peasant farmers taking a shit in the fields, but every single home owning person I know of have interacted with has toilets and showers in their house.

Things can change in India, the issue is that the government isn’t serious about tackling the issue. India has all kinds of laws to do all kinds of things, but those laws are not enforced.

"Gunpowder is a mixture of sulfur, charcoal, and potassium nitrate that must be combined in specific ratios. While this sounds simple enough, it must be remembered that in 1775 the state of chemistry was rudimentary. Potassium nitrate itself is a compound of nitrogen and potassium, neither element of which had been identified at that point in time.[2] What they did know was that what they called “nitre” was needed, which, in some recipes, involved soaking soil in urine from both animals and humans, and then allowing it to dry. The dried urine-soil was then boiled to produce saltpeter. Not all recipes agreed with this method which added to the problems in making gunpowder. Unfortunately this required half a year or more to produce nitre-bearing soil and created a bottleneck in the production of gunpowder in America."

That's a pretty awesome tutorial, thanks for posting the link. I'm impressed that guy made somewhat workable gunpowder with piss.

Bidets are great. I installed a $25 one off Amazon in my apartment. Took maybe 15 minutes to put together, looks just like the one in Walter Black's post.

I think it's called the Astor Bidet (non electric, mechanical).

Between these two regions, that'll be 3 billion people who will drive cars, consume a tenth fold energy than they do now, eat more meat and proteins, and just as importantly, they'll produce far more waste than today.

There is no way the remaining earth resources will support that under our current energy procurement paradigm.

You're forgetting basic economics. As standards of living increase in places like India and Sub-Saharan Africa, prices for resources such as oil, meat, and waste land will go up. Those increased prices will then drive innovation and/or substitution, thus ensuring best use of those resources.

Note that this doesn't mean populations always rise. In the developed world (not just the West), populations are stagnating or declining as people substitute other things for children. Even in places that are developing, like India, the birthrate is dropping as standards of living go up.

That is what the elite has been talking about since the 1750s - there is too many of you useless eaters - or we will all drown in horseshit, because too many people will have horses.

The truth of the matter is that you can put the entire world population into Texas giving each 4 people 400m2 of land. That will leave the rest of the earth empty. That's how ridiculously badly distributed human population is.

As far as current recourses are concerned. There are literally dozens of patents and technologies out there which can produce virtually free energy. Also there exist countless of new battery systems. Who knows - there may be more to it like anti-gravity tech. You have to realize that in our world EVERYTHING that threatens massive elite profits will be blocked: -
+ interest free econonomics - blocked/ doesn't exist
+ almost free energy via electromagnetic energy generators - blocked, humbug
+ 100 times superior batteries - nope, we can't have that - cars that run 5000 miles with one loading cannot be allowed

Earth certainly has limits and in our current stupid system they are quickly reached. In a better system of free energy, free water (since you can desalinate unlimited amounts), super-cheap transportation, appliances and goods that are built to last decades and not months - in that world Earth can stomach billions more. It's strangely the elite greed and lack of morals that is actually stopping a more sane development. Also they have no plans for South America, Africa or even India to ever industrialize. They want them to simply go "green" and straight from 3rd world poverty to minimalistic austerity (albeit at a more advanced standard of living but nowhere close to the West).

As far as the shit issue in India is concerned - yes a good portion of it is poverty and lack of education, but part of it is cultural or religious. Since the lowest caste is dealing with shit or is associated with it, there may be a cultural distaste for having to deal with it in the least. Even if you live in slums, there is little need of crapping everywhere. A relatively closed off bucket and daily emptyings at designated areas would solve many problems. But my assumption is that most people don't want to deal with it that way. Essentially that is what Europeans did in previous centuries. They did their deed in a metal bucket and then emptied it close to the public canalization or the river.

Religion and less advantegous mental patterns are hard to fight against. Christians rather were more concerned with showing your ass and genitals to the world than dealing with the crap of their families.
