Watched the movie - not paying of course. I got two free tickets in a supermarket lottery, choose this movie to see if it really is that bad and it was.

I could never have believed that I would feel sleepy during a Star Wars movie. But I did.

The movie is so bad I don't want to waste many words. People on this forum and even much less red pill platforms like imdb comments have already done great job on explaining the numerous ways this movie ruins Star Wars universe and classical characters.

The forced diversity is annoying. The girrrl power is annoying. New, never seen force powers are wasted on an emo villain. A new super Death Star is wasted by being defeated in 10 minutes as opposed to earlier movies doing that during whole movie. Han Solo is shown as a failure. Another stupid robot is introduced but I feel no emotional attachment to him.


The star wars fans must unite and force this movie to be considered non-cannon!

A new replacement movie must be made with the fallowing changes:

1) There are no rebels. There is Republic Army, because in previous movie the republic has won and has been restored.

2) There is no First order. There are remnants of the Imperial forces. Imperial generals fight among themselves for supremacy. A new dark shadow emerges that unites them. This could even be the old Emperor using a cloned body like in the old extended universe, that was much better plotwise then this shit. I fucking loved Darth Sideous the best movie villain ever.

3)Han Solo is not a loser scoundrel anymore but a general and hero for Republican Army. Could be retired. Could be just a wise man who gives advice or appears as cameo or doesn't appear at all. But he shouldn't be a divorced and broken loser who hasn't progressed at all from the previous movie except getting older.

4)Stopping blaster shot in air is not a new ability shown by an emo weakling villain, it is an ability introduced by Luke Skywalker who has invented something new, showing that he is next in line of great jedi masters.

5)Reading thoughts trough force is not a new ability demonstrated by an emo weakling villain. It is an ability introduced trough a powerful villain.

6) No more Death stars - give us something new please!

7)The girl - Rey - is not an expert pilot and technician. She masters force powers slowly starting from something very simple. I liked the way she first used mind trick, it was funny, but it should take place no sooner than in second movie after she has seen her mentor - Luke - do it.

8)A chrome colored stormtrooper is not female. He doesn't gets taken hostige, but shows some badass skills and kills at least 5 republic soldiers on screen as well as makes some smart tactical move that screws heroes for a while.

9)The defected stormtrooper is not in love and friendzoned by jedi girl. Instead she herself is in love in some strong male protagonist whom this movie is strongly lacking.

10)Kyle Ren might be Han's son and may fall to dark side. And he may even kill Han Solo the way he did. But like Ray his powers are still very limited to match his emo character.

11) The movies could be a competiton between two Jedi younglings - Rey and Kylo training trough three movies and competing to see who would become stronger - Ray using Light side or Kylo using Dark side.

12)Even so Ray and Kylo never reach the level of Luke and the main villain who also fight in the finale.

13)Han Solo is not acting like he sees Wookie bowcaster for the first time.

There's a few nitpicks in that from the EU. There is an example of an untrained future jedi using mind trick (the main character from the X-wing books does it without realizing he did it), and the force hold power that Kylo uses is a player ability in Knights of the Old Republic.

Still, there's a lot of the movie that was obviously only done for the benefit of special effects. Ren only stopped the blaster bolt so they could show off how amazing their CGI blaster bolt was. His saber only has an electric effect so they can show that off to the audience. The "Traitor trooper" only throws away his blaster so that they can show off his fancy arc-nunchuck.



More than anything else though, Rey ruins the movie. She's so overpowered, so utterly flawless in her portrayal, that there's absolutely nothing to empathize with or like about her. There's no personality....only her doing badass things.

Look...I can buy her being good with a sword, since there's a number of female fencing champions out there who are badass at it. I can also buy that she'd be familiar with technology as a scavenger. What I can't buy is that she knows more about the Falcon after just getting on it than Solo does after owning it for decades, that she doesn't show any relatable emotion throughout the entire movie, and that she's able to use force abilities with no training and no prior knowledge of force abilities. Rey hadn't even known that the mind trick existed before she used it.


The way they portray her "force" abilities more closely resembles the way that the Outsider's mark works in Dishonored than it does the Star Wars franchise to date.

I just watched a behind the scenes and Boyega mentions "I had to do all this training with a light saber to prepare for my role."

Can anybody explain what JJ's logic is there?

"Well, the actor has no experience with a sword, so we need to give him lots of training with a sword to prepare him for a character who...has no experience with a sword.

Eithe Abrams has little respect for his audience, or is purposely taking a shit on concepts like learning or training. No wonder kids are screwed up.

Grit did you actually watch the movie? The stormtroops did train with swords, per the scene with him literally fighting a stormtrooper who had a sword (ok, shock baton shaped like a sword. . .it functioned the same way though).

Finn was trained as a stormtrooper which -- as implied by the other stormtrooper who comes after him with a lightsaber-proof baton -- suggests he was at least drilled in melee weapons. He doesn't recognise the lightsaber as a weapon to begin with, but the stance he takes with it suggests he's been trained in some form of swordsmanship. I can accept him improvising with a weapon that at least approximates a sword, and it's not like he pulls out Jedi Master acrobatics in that fight or in the one against Kylo Ren.

(EDIT: Indeed that stun baton is a callback - one of the few in the series - to the Prequel Trilogy. In Episode 3, Grievous's droids start using staves with these electric-looking attachments against Obi-Wan and Anakin, principally because they can't be cut by lightsabers. I could see some theoretical training at least with lightsabers for that reason in the First Order.)

It's Rey's sudden improvisation with a lightsaber that bothers the fuck out of me, leaving aside all the rest of the May the Mary Sue Be With You that springs out of her character late in the second act. People have been saying "Oh, she's had some experience knocking guys around with a staff" ... yeah, ah, no. Staff fighting has very little crossover with longsword use, whether you're using the staff as a polearm to vastly enhance your reach or with your hands fixed in the centre as Darth Maul did. Indeed if you are used to a staff you're probably at a disadvantage when you pick up a sword because a staff can be used to block and then counterstrike quickly with the far end. This can be done with a single blade too but it's a different battery of techniques. Likewise you would also tend to overestimate your reach picking up a sword for the first time when you've been using a bo for a while.

It's Bullshido to think the skills are transferable between weapons that easily; there's a reason you have to train extensively with both types of weapon in the real world. To return to Darth Maul for a second, take another look at the full fight between him and Obi-Wan after Qui-Gon is killed in Episode 1. Even allowing for the fact it's stage combat and nobody is actually trying to kill anybody else in that show, real world physics is still very relevant. Maul gets his staff cut in half in that fight and goes to a single blade. His moves are entirely different: up to that point in the fight he's either locking people's weapons up and going for a strike with the far end or making people forget entirely about the second blade, but he shifts to a barrage of moves designed to get Obi-Wan's weapon out of place -- which doesn't work, such that eventually Maul just Force pushes Kenobi off the edge of the pit. (In passing, that fight is glorious, probably the best lightsaber duel of all seven films, literally the only reason to put the DVD in your drive. Ewan McGregor just looks completely pumped in his role and is clearly digging getting into it with Ray Park. And Park is just amazing: he sells every strike and the strikes come thick and fast.)

About Rey. I don't think she should be able to be kicking the ass of those thugs near the beginning of the film anyway.

But rather start off as a weakling due to her sex. And only after being protected and sheltered by others since she should be getting her ass kicked or something similar or that she relies on subterfuge and wits rather than physical prowess. Eventually she should be able physically enhance herself through the force after training with Luke.

Trying hard to find some good things about this movie. Some things I LIKED:

1. Return of physical props and set pieces. The blending of CGI and real-world environments was impressive...for the most part.

2. The opening scene where they slaughtered the village. Of course that (and the Finn character) was largely stolen from the opening of the Star Wars: Allegiance book.

3. Han and Chewie. Two hetero-lifemates having adventures across the galaxy. Nothing gay about that.

4. Real (not CGI) stormtroopers.

5. Kylo Ren - all the way until he first takes off his mask. He started off like such a badass.

6. Amped up force powers. Some don't like this, but the level of force abilities seems closer to the EU version.

Finally saw this movie. Dunno what the hullabaloo is about. Can somebody enlighten me why men's rights people are up in arms? It was a fun kids movie. Obviously Disney is going to introduce a female action hero among the protagonists, they will make money hand over fist from little girls who are probably already pre-ordering Rey action figures by the truckloads. I thought the chrome troopers played by Gwendoline Christie would be some awful over the top character but she ended up being the biggest bitch in the entire film for the 30 seconds she was on screen.

The movie definitely wasn't the Godfather. I'd give it 3 stars out of 4. Would see again.

Reviews are sorted by "best", i.e. by voted up. Hundreds upon hundreds of negative reviews pretty much tell the movie to be what it is. I found ONE positive review in the first 10 pages of reviews or so, but the torrent of negative reviews goes on tens of pages deep.

Do not confuse the reviews with the star ratings. Every 10yo kid goes in and clicks 10/10. The reviews on the other hand are actually moderated and you are required to write a few meaningful paragraphs to get published. Reviews such as "dad took me for my 9th birthday and it was awwwwsum" will not get published.

This movie is simply junk, even if the hero was a white german austrian male and the villain was a black feminist muslim.

Just ask Lucas. Before the movie came out he said in an interview "I can't think of better hands to give Star Wars to than Disney". Now he says "The Star Wars movies are like my children, and I'm worried about them". Not a word for word quote but very close.

If someone actually enjoyed it though, I respect them all the same, to each his own and that's fine.

Well, I guess we can look at it this way: The discontinued Star Wars Expanded Universe won't be touched by Disney, sparing it any additional PC/SJW/CM crap. That's not to say that it had its problems - it certainly did (both sociopolitical and non), but at least now we can separate the two, sparing one from the disasters of the other.

No Politically Correct Admiral Thrawn to see here.

It will probably be a total Social Justice Crap Fest - now that Disney leads.

What we know:

Hollywood or Holly-wall?

All the big time breakout actresses in the last 15 years have been interchangeable clones of each other and completely generic. I can't recall one standout performance from any of them. You could substitute a big name like Jennifer Lawrence for any of these new breed actresses and the results would be the same.

Bonus points for hilarity: Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley were interchangeable. Literally. On Ep 1, Knightley is one of the doubles for Portman's character, Padme Amidala. She was literally cast because she couldn't be easily told apart from Natalie Portman.

I believe he still felt he has a story to tell in prequels. Many didn't like that story that's true, but from his point of view, he wasn't doing it to rake in cash and nothing else.

Lucas has plllllenty of cash, even before the prequels. He has no shareholders to answer to either, unlike Disney.

Furthermore, I find the prequels (even The Phantom Menace) to be cinema heaven comparing to the latest movie. There is no comparing.

She just couldn't keep it together. Instead of getting more toned (to reflect the training she's supposed to be doing in the next movie), Daisy got fatter. She was so skinny before, she looks like a skinny-fat hausfrau now. I wonder if the fanboys will still yammer on about how "beautiful" she is.
