How did they get the tattoos already if the trailer was released yesterday.

This is going to be greatest movie ever. If you disagree your a misogynist and probably a racist.

RE: Star Wars does not need lead "strong" females characters
So, final trailer for this film.

Full disclosure, I'll be going mainly out of curiosity to see what Mark Hamill does with Luke Skywalker. He's said (not in so many words) that he absolutely hates what they did with the character in this film, so it'll be interesting to see whether he commits to what he's given or pulls a Harrison "Just here for the money" Ford performance instead.

And indeed what we see of him in the trailer is what was my focus. Two thoughts:

(1) Jedi Master who has been taught that fear is the Dark Side of the Force is now saying he's fucking afraid. Right. Great character progression there, I totally respect him as a teacher in the Yoda or Obi-Wan vein.

(2) For some reason I got a very strong Lord Of The Rings vibe out of those shots or scenes. Not sure why. But then given this film seems to be borrowing all manner of shit from other films in the genre, not least of which is ESB itself, I shouldn't be surprised.

No offense, but guys who repeatedly get suckered into watching this SJW pile of crap because they're curious, nostalgic, hanging out, have nothing better to do etc are acting similarly to women in abusive relationships.

The franchise will never improve, and no matter how many classic bones it throws you it will never stop beating you up with SJW propaganda. Leave!

RE: Star Wars does not need lead "strong" females characters
Amusing :

Star Wars: 15 Reasons Why The Force Awakens Is WORSE Than The Phantom Menace

Ask any Star Wars fan what the worst SW movie is, and it’s almost guaranteed they’ll say The Phantom Menace. The start of a new prequel trilogy to the beloved original classics, TPM introduced us to a young Obi-Wan, the boy who would become Darth Vader, and a universe on the brink of succumbing to the tyranny of one man. The only problem was that it pretty much sucked, and the following two films had questionable qualities all their own (or did they?).
Come 2015, the first installment of a sequel trilogy was released, entitled The Force Awakens, which was greeted with open arms from fans who had grown tired of George Lucas and his increasingly bizarre alterations made to the existing trilogies.
Episode VII enjoyed immense financial and critical success, and Star Wars lovers propped it up as the champion that saved the franchise from a tired old man who no longer understood his creation.
That’s great, but what if they were all wrong? What if the direct fan-pandering blinded hoards of people from the possibility that The Force Awakens is not just a bad movie, but worse than The Phantom Menace?
In our 15 Reasons That The Force Awakens is WORSE Than The Phantom Menace, we intend to prove just that.

Agreed. Before this day we had George Lucas's own Count Dooku for the daftest, least-inspiring name of all time, and which if you're typing always winds up as Count Dooky or is too simple to turn into Count Doodoo. Grievous, Dooku, now it's all CAPTAIN PHASMA, GENERAL HUX(table), and their awe-inspiring leader, SNOKE! The last Star Wars villian who inspired real fear and dread was fucking Darth Maul ... and they wisely kept him to two lines of dialogue in the whole film, though they went on to very stupidly kill him in the same show.

This guy was by far my favorite character. He actually did not die when he was cut in half in Episode 1. He survived and went insane for a while in the Clone Wars animated show (which is badass).

Wish they made a movie just about him.

Oh, I'm sure they are going to play as many editing games as possible to maximize the footage they have, as they said they wouldn't resort to CGI. So it will be a lot of brooding reaction shots, maybe even finally something meant to indicate she has force telepathy, stuff like that. It looks like they'll also use a lot of shots from behind her using a double.

For some, the sense of belonging of being a fan is more important than...having good taste.

So the ritual of going to a movie and pretending to like it makes sense because your sense of group identity is reinforced.

The writer/director Rian Johnson hasn't made SJW films from what I can tell looking at the plots. Still, the SJW Star Wars CEO Kathleen Turner was involved in making the story, so it may still be that way. Johnson always makes crazy, overly elaborate plots that are kind of fun, but given that his arms are somewhat tied, this will probably be a train wreck for many reasons.

I'll be over here having fun in what's left of Legends canon (AKA pre-Disney), which I assume Disney will never touch again despite a few initial vaguely-phrased statements that they might.

I am making an exception for Battlefront II (2017) however.

Blade Runner 2049, may not be the most amazing film out there or even out this year.
Yet it is a nice change of pace from the overly hectic & exaggerated blockbuster films they normally release.

Hmmm, that's the exact impression I got from some of the visual choices on the trailer. Crazy and over elaborate - confusing and directionless. Contrasted to the inside of the Death Star in Ep 6, which was chaotic but organized, the weird place that the Millenium Falcon was flying through was simply confusing.

I'm guessing that this movie will receive a better reception from the last, but about six months later people will start noticing the massive plot holes, and how nothing made any sense.

On a sort-of tangential note, around the director thing: Colin Trevorrow, who was slated to helm the third film, has pulled out, citing good old "creative differences" between himself and Disney. I didn't know much about the guy before Googling him, but even after a short look through his bio I think I can make an educated guess as to why.

In short, my guess is that he didn't like Darth Turner telling him what movie to make. The Wiki article indicates outside writers were brought in fairly early on to massage the script he was planning to put in. My guess is that he'd had about one or two rounds with these corporate cockroaches before saying "Fuck this, I got better treatment and control of the source material with the last big franchise I was trusted with, I don't need this crap."

See, on Googling I was surprised to realise he was the director of Jurassic World -- and even more surprised to discover he was the writer as well. Throughout most of his film career Trevorrow seems to have been some combination of director/writer/producer (if not all three at the same time) on his productions.

Someone who's both writer/director usually has a pretty clear and (more importantly) individual vision for where a movie should go. (This isn't a guarantee for getting something good -- JJ Abrams co-wrote and co-directed The Farce Awakens, and freely admitted he basically retreaded ANH -- but it does seem to be a necessary component for a kickass original film; the top 20 ROI films of all time have all had some combination of writer/X in their making.)

This individual vision is even stronger in the case of a guy who covers all three seats of writer/director/producer, since a producer has to basically oversee the entire production of the film, from editing to casting through to distribution.

I suspect Trevorrow therefore doesn't play well with mass accounting exercises like Disney, who would have been constantly interfering with his production, running every line of his script through marketing and legal to see whether it was likely to piss off any demographic they deemed necessary for the film's success.

I finally got round to seeing Jurassic World recently and while it wasn't exactly earth-shattering stuff, it hit what I thought was a nice balance between homages to the original and some new-ish innovations on the original story. I particularly liked that Trevorrow seemed to be of the same cinematography school as Irwin Kershner on ESB: he likes filling up his close shots with people's features, rightly thinking there's not a lot that's more interesting than the map of the human face.

I'm therefore actually regretting what could have been on the third film. Even if Trevorrow had brought in something like Jurassic World -- i.e. generally mediocre with one or two variations on the original idea, together with a couple of standout performances -- at least it might've brought something slightly original to the table. But since Disney apparently prefers its directors connected to the puppet strings, we won't have that.

Instead, we now have our worst nightmare: JJ Abrams has been brought back to direct the third instalment, and will be writing the fucking film along with Chris Terrio, last seen bending over and getting fucked up the arse in the course of writing Batman v Superman. I'm fully expecting a retread of ROTJ, which is going to be pretty fucking awful since the original film was the dodgiest of the first three, featuring Carrie Fisher performing while high on coke and Harrison Ford acting like he was.

RE: Star Wars does not need lead "strong" females characters
From the synopsis of plots I've read from the writer, although the plots are crazy and confusing, I get the impression that they probably worked out, but only because he had full creative control of his other movies. He's a very creative guy who isn't the sort to work well under the kind of constraints he must have gotten. On the bright side, Johnson knows how to set up a shot well, so like Force Awakens, we'll probably have that at least; although the Farce Awakens flashed red and blue light in our faces constantly in an autistic attempt to recreate the effect of the blue/orange lighting effect in Empire Strikes Back; if it weren't for that, I'd say the cinematography of 7 was really good.

Colin Trevorrow directed a serious bomb, Book of Henry. So I would resist the temptation to say he's the frustrated auteur. Him being fired for sucking and upper-management sabotaging the franchise can both be true, and why wouldn't it? There seems to be a serious lack of talent in Hollywood at present.

They're already taking parts of the EU that they think could be in the Disney canon like the New Republic (even if it's only briefly mentioned) and Thrawn in Rebels. They also took characters and groups and renamed them. Kylo Ren (aka Ben Solo) is essentially an inexperienced emo version of Jacen Solo (Darth Caedus) and the First Order is just the rebranded version of the Imperial Remant (except the remant in the EU became non-human alien and female friendly and speciesism was a thing of the past by the Legacy era).

The cynic in me believes it's to not alienate the fans who grew up with the Expanded Universe. The Legends canon was always a separate continuity, Disney's action just confirmed it. Even George Lucas himself didn't read it despite helping write it.

It is a sequel. Hence the similarities. At least it's not a reboot.
However, I'd say this lack of originality is as much a symptom of saturation as anything else.

I first heard of the idea of there being only ~36 story types from Christopher Walken.
Love story, revenge story, "coming of age" story, detective story etc., etc.

No different to the comic industry having trouble reinventing the wheel (you can only read Captain America punching Red Skull so many times...).
Hollywood has also saturated its own market by only having so many stories to tell, yet still busily releasing the same stories 20 -30 times each year.
Then there's the problem of uncreative people in entertainment having too much influence & stifling those of some level of originality & creativity.
